Job summary

The highly diverse borough of Tower Hamlets CAMHS is seeking an enthusiastic and autonomous clinician to provide a specialist service to young people and their families. The post-holder will hold cases in generic CAMHS in the Emotional and Behavioural Team 2 (EB2). EB2 is a well-established and lively with passionate and dedicated clinicians. This is a community-based post.

The role is suitable for an energetic, creative clinician with understanding and passion for working with young people who have experienced trauma and/or have complex mental health needs, including neurodiversity.

Main duties of the job

This is a community-based post; predominantly the role will include the provision of specialist consultation, CAMHS mental health assessment, with specific emphasis on adolescents with complex and severe mental health difficulties. It will also include liaison with other agencies, evidence based clinical interventions and support. It may include, clinical supervision and teaching to multi-agency staff and students. The post holder will be expected to hold a generic CAMHS caseload and will be a part of well established, lively and welcoming Emotional and Behavioral Team 2 at Tower Hamlets CAMHS.

The post holder must be aware of, adhere to and be accountable to the relevant practices and management structure. Their professional practice will be accounted for through appraisal and audit. Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/Training

Essential

  • Appropriate professional qualification in mental health, children services. (Social worker, Registered MH nurse, Psychotherapist/Arts Therapist, Clinical or Counselling Psychologist)
  • Professional registration with appropriate governing body (e.g. HCPC, BABCP, UKCP etc.)

Desirable

  • Evidence of completed additional relevant education, courses and training programs in therapeutic modalities on individual or group level such as DBT, CBT, creative therapies etc.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in CAMHS/Mental Health
  • Experience of managing and supervising junior staff
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Experience of working with vulnerable children who present with high risk behaviors
  • Experience of consultation and teaching

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a culturally diverse inner city area
  • Experience of providing psycho- education for professionals
  • Experience of service development, QI, audit or other methods

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of well developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS/AMH including mental health assessments and therapeutic interventions
  • Ability to assess, hypothesize and prescribe interventions
  • Proven ability to work with children and young people in distress or through psychiatric emergency
  • Proficient IT user
