We have a rare opportunity to join a dynamic, friendly team of speech and language therapists in Somerset.

This post is based in an acute hospital covering a wide range of complex medical conditions across the medical and surgical wards. There will be opportunities to develop specialist skills in videofluoroscopy, FEES and tracheostomy.

The post is full time covering Monday to Friday, however a flexible working pattern and/or part time hours can be considered.

Our team has a well established supervision and support network in place. We have access to a wide variety of CPD opportunities and we encouragement development of leadership skills alongside clinical skills from the start of your career journey.

We value the importance of staff well-being and have appointed a well-being lead in the service to ensure all staff have access to well-being support alongside their one to one sessions and clinical supervision.

We are willing to support an enthusiastic Band 5 therapist with relevant experience who is keen to progress to a Band 6 role.

Main duties of the job

  • To work at Musgrove Park Hospital delivering patient centred and evidence- based care for patients with a wide range of acquired clinical disorders in an acute hospital setting.
  • Follow-up telephone reviews, and at times face to face assessments, for patients leaving the acute setting who are transferred to a community hospital.
  • To assess, diagnose and treat patients with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Regular triage and prioritization of caseloads.
  • To work as part of multi professional team in the management of acutely unwell patients on the medical and surgical wards.
  • To actively contribute to service developments and incorporate these into core services, in areas of communication and swallowing.
  • To work towards competence in videofluoroscopy, FEES and tracheostomy.
  • To be included in the SLT Bank Holiday working rota.
  • To cover other areas of clinical work in times of annual leave and sickness within the postholder's level of competence.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSC Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
  • Level 5 Dysphagia Competencies
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to teach / supervise and support Speech and Language Therapy students.
  • Proven experience working with patients who have an acquired neurological condition.
  • Proven experience working with in-patients in an acute Trust.

Experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working in critical care
  • Experience of working with patients with tracheostomy
