Job summary

We welcome applicants for a specialty doctor post in cardiology. We have a dynamic team in Mid Yorkshire Hospitals and provide all modern cardiological facilities expected in a large secondary care hospital including stress echocardiography, TOE, cardiac CT angiography, cardiac MRI, complex device implantation and follow up (including subcutaneous ICD), PCI (including rotablation). The successful applicant will be encouraged and supported to develop interests in any of these areas.

Applicants will be eligible for the post of Specialty Doctor as described in Terms and Conditions of Service for Specialty Doctors England (2021) and will be remunerated as appropriate on the salary scale MC75 (£52,530 to £82,400) per annum.

Main duties of the job

Duties will be based primarily on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) and Dewsbury sites although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all 3 sites.

The main duties of the post will include

Provision of care to inpatients in cardiology.

Gain practical experience in procedures including angiography, echocardiography, CMR, CTCA, pacing and pericardiocentesis.

Out-patient activities / clinics dependent on the needs of patients.

Involvement in relevant multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.

Involvement in relevant administration duties.

Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate.

Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities.

Job responsibilities

This post is offered on a full time 10 Programmed Activity basis (9 DCC PAs and 1 SPA PAs) although less than full time applications will be considered.

The post provides excellent experience as a cardiology middle grade doctor in a dynamic unit with excellent facilities. You will support and work alongside our 4 NTN registrars and 2 other specialty doctors to provide middle grade cover. You will have exposure and training in procedures including DC cardioversion, pericardiocentesis, diagnostic angiography and pacemaker insertion, as well as cardiac imaging by MRI, CT and echocardiography. You will be able to increase your experience and credentials within cardiology and previous doctors that have done these posts have gone on to secure NTN in national competition. We are an active research unit and previous incumbents of the post have had access to research opportunities and publications.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical Degree from recognised medical school

Desirable

  • Progress towards or attainment of Royal College Exams
  • ATLS,ALS,APLS or PALS certification
  • Higher qualification e.g. MFARM, FRCS, MRCP, MRCPG, MRCS, FRCA or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Completed at least four years full time hospital service junior or higher grade since first obtaining full or limited registration, including a minimum 1 year experience in Cardiology

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching clinical skills
  • Clinical research and development

GMC Registration

Essential

  • Please state full GMC number
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practise

Management Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Good time management.

Desirable

  • Possess good organisational skills.
