Job summary
C14B is a busy surgical ward, looking after a variety of conditions from liver resections to cholecystitis. We currently have 17 beds and have a broad range of patients who deserve to receive high quality nursing care. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working and flexible nurse to join the team. We care for patients who are electively undergoing surgery and emergency patients both HPB and colorectal. We are the regional speciality area for HPB surgeries and take patients requiring surgical/specialist interventions from Blackpool and the Fylde Coast, South Lakes and Lancaster.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the safe, personal and effective care delivery to complex surgical patients, who require support from a wide range of nursing interventions, based on their individual needs. This will be ascertained following a detailed assessment of the patient on transfer to the ward either from the emergency surgical unit, theatre or critical care.
You will be responsible for between 5 and 8 patients usually, with medication administration, wound care, recognising deteriorating patients and acting accordingly, methods of specific analgesia such as PCA and epidurals, pre and post op care as well as managing patients stepping down form critical care. You will also be responsible for organising your shift working alongside one of our HCA's delivering care to your patients meeting their needs in relation to the activities of daily living such as mobility, skin integument, hygiene and nutrition. Please note this list is not exhaustive and being able to work under your own initiative and be responsive to the changing needs of the patients and the ward is important. You must be able to prioritise care accordingly.
About us
At East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, our vision is to be widely recognised for providing safe, personal and effective care. We currently provide high quality services and treat over 600,000 people across East Lancashire and the surrounding area. We employ over 7,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work.
C14B achieved the highest accolade during the Nursing Assessment Performance Framework assessment, achieving Gold, of which the team is very proud. We are now working towards achieving a good result on the new assessment framework, the QAAF. We are striving to continue to ensure our patients receive a high standard of care in line with the Trust's Visions and values.

Working as a PFC means joining a dynamic and evolving environment. Joining the ODC team offers opportunities to experience our other key functions such as

Main duties of the job
The Patient Flow Coordinator plays a vital role in the Operations Delivery Centre, requiring prior experience in emergency services (or equivalent), ideally within a control room (or call centre) environment.

Key duties include real-time communication with ambulance crews via radio and telephone, interpreting the Resource Availability Dashboard, and working collaboratively to remove barriers to patient care. The role supports the principle that no patient should wait unnecessarily for an ambulance and contributes to efficient hospital handovers and movement of our fleet of ambulances.
Reporting to the Service Delivery Officer, the coordinator works closely with HALOs, Operations Offers, Community Response Coordinators, and EOC staff and many of our partner agencies.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
