Main duties of the role
Working within our GP surgery dispensary, you will play an important role in supporting our patients and the wider practice team by ensuring medicines are dispensed safely, accurately and efficiently.
The successful candidate will be motivated, reliable and organised, with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to providing a high standard of patient care.
Key duties will include:
Accurately dispensing prescriptions and preparing medicines for patients.
Checking prescriptions carefully and ensuring all medicines are labelled and supplied correctly.
Supporting patients with queries regarding their medicines and escalating any concerns appropriately.
Ordering, receiving and maintaining stock within the dispensary.
Checking medication expiry dates and maintaining accurate records.
Working closely with GPs, clinicians and the wider practice team to support safe and effective medicines management.
Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient dispensary.
Following practice procedures, legal requirements and patient confidentiality at all times.
Managing your workload effectively while maintaining accuracy, even during busy periods.

Alvaston Medical Centre is a friendly and forward-thinking GP practice providing high-quality NHS primary care to patients across Alvaston and the surrounding South Derbyshire area. We are a three-GP Partner, part-dispensing practice, with our main surgery in Alvaston and a branch surgery in Aston-on-Trent.
We are proud to have a multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, dispensary staff, reception and administrative teams, working together to provide safe, effective and patient-centred care.
We are also a training practice, supporting the development of future GPs, doctors and nurses, and we value learning, teamwork and continuous improvement. Our practice currently has a CQC rating of Good.

The successful candidate will have the ability to identify and implement the practices objectives using a combination of personal involvement, motivation of other staff and delegation when appropriate.
