An opportunity has arisen to join our team of Site Matrons at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on a permanent basis. The post holder will be supported by an established team of Site Matrons supported by an Operational Support Manager and Patient Flow Assistants.
The Site Matron role is integral to the successful operation of the hospital; you will need to be a quick thinker and strong leader with excellent problem-solving skills, able to negotiate sound operational decisions in rapidly changing situations, often under pressure so a calm and pleasant manner is essential. Your main responsibilities will include promoting effective patient flow ensuring safe and effective patient placement.
You will be a registered nurse with a masters degree or equivalent qualifications and demonstrable clinical experience, with significant experience as a Band 7. You will possess enhanced nursing and leadership skills and have an understanding of current acute hospital performance indicators. The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills.
Main duties of the job
A broad overview of responsibilities includes managing the Trusts bed capacity and patient flow and assisting in the achievement of key performance and quality standards e.g. emergency and elective admission access targets, single sex accommodation, and infection control. You will also be required to, support safe staffing levels. Out of hours you will have overall responsibility for the hospital site with support from the on-call senior manager and the executive on call.
The team covers the site 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The shift pattern is 12.5-hour shifts covering days and nights including weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job
As a Materials Management officer you will:
Establish and maintain ward/department stock profiles by physical check and identify and withdraw surplus/obsolete/out of date products and re-distribute/dispose off as appropriate.
Input and maintain computerised stock profiles and inventory levels for all wards/departments on the procurement system.
Provide a topping up service to wards/departments using Automatic Data Capture Devices (PDAs) to record replenishment information.
To manually process stock demand via electronic ordering systems for departments not serviced by a top-up service and to carry out user maintenance tasks as and when required.
To deliver goods on a regular basis, in loads of excess of 100kg, including contained hazardous substances, unpack and verify receipt ensuring products are as ordered and to correct specification replenish shelves ensuring stocks are rotated.
To respond to customers queries regarding product under the control of the Materials Management Team and liaise with NHS Supply Chain as appropriate.
Maintain documentation to ensure an audit trail is available for all transactions.
Ensure customers receive high service levels whilst maintaining lean stocks.
To carry out duties in accordance with policies and procedures of the Trust, safe systems of work, the health and safety at work act and departmental work instructions/procedures.

You will be a highly valued member of the team bringing your expertise and skills to a busy Ophthalmology department. The post will be complementary to the current sub-specialty interests of Medical Retina, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Uveitis, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Cornea.
The service is supported by Specialist Doctors, Specialty Doctors, Orthoptists and Specialist Nurses.
This is a consultant post at 1.0 WTE including ad hoc theatre session(s), outpatient clinics, admin and SPA. Part time positions will also be accepted. This post does have an on-call requirement: First on call one night a week 5-9pm and second on call 1:4 Weekends - 9am to 9pm.
This is a very exciting time to join the Ophthalmology Department at Barnsley Hospital as the department has recently moved to the Alhambra Outpatients Department in the Barnsley town centre. The Trust plans to significantly invest in the redesign of the service over the next three years in order to deliver an efficient, patient-centred, one-stop service in partnership with other local providers.
Main duties of the job
You will work as part of the Ophthalmology Department and are expected to provide a high-quality service and ensure excellent patient care.
Main Responsibilities include:
(a) Clinical Services:
The appointed clinician will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the planning, delivery and improvement of clinical care in Ophthalmology at the Alhambra Outpatients.
Work closely with the multidisciplinary teams to provide a high-quality Ophthalmology service.
Advise clinical colleagues on matters within his/her sphere of experience.

This is a newly established post for a full or part time Consultant Rheumatologist based at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to expand our small but highly effective rheumatology medical team of three consultants and one very experienced associate specialist.
This opportunity is unlikely to arise again for many years!
Our candidate must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of achieving this.
The post will be based at Barnsley Hospital, one of four Foundation Trusts in South Yorkshire, and in our opinion, the best to work in.
The appointee will work closely with the existing Consultant Rheumatologists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive service to our local patient population. If you enjoy working in a small, friendly hospital, where people know and talk to each other, then this post is for you. Unless you want to practice general medicine as well, there is no on call commitment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Dermatology Team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist. We are seeking an experienced and motivated nurse to further develop their career within the Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team MDT.
The post holder will work across outpatient services, providing specialist support throughout the skin cancer pathway and delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. A key aspect of the role is the development of nurse-led services, providing expert assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with skin cancer, including dermatological assessment, dermoscopy, lesion evaluation and minor surgical procedures.
Working closely with the MDT, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of services, helping to improve patient outcomes, experience and quality of life. This permanent post specialises in paediatrics, with a focus on supporting home enteral feeding and promoting nutrition within this area. It also provides the opportunity to work within specialist areas of paediatrics and a range of common childhood health conditions.
You will work with local and tertiary centre dietitians and health care teams. You will also be able to develop and take part in staff teaching and training, and maintain your continuous professional development.
You will be an integral part of our friendly Dietetic Department and have excellent support from the wider Dietetic team which includes Dietetic Assistant and Assistant Practitioners and a dedicated Administration team.
You will have the opportunity to lead student dietitians on their placements and support junior members of your team in their training and development. We are a proactive department where personal continuing development is promoted, therefore attendance on study days is offered in line with identified learning needs.
You should be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with good time management skills and a commitment to evidence-based practice.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist dietetic advice for patients who may require complex dietetic interventions, and to monitor and adapt their treatment accordingly in an inpatient/outpatient setting.
- Work effectively as part of the MDT
- To regularly undertake audits and surveys of own practice/dietetic service and may be required to participate in research.
- To provide a key role in service development and service changes, including policy development and proposal of new specialist services.
- Provide regular supervision for Band 5 dietitians and dietetic assistants

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Blood Sciences - Blood Transfusion department at the Barnsley Hospital site, part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Partnership, for a substantive Band 7 Advanced Biomedical Scientist.
The post holder must demonstrate specialist knowledge and will be responsible for the operational management of the blood bank laboratory, ensuring a quality, continuous, clinical diagnostic and therapeutic service. They will support the Blood Transfusion Manager to ensure provision of service to patients from Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Primary Care Trust.
The Blood Sciences Department is initially separated into Automated Blood Sciences and Specialist Blood Sciences services. Automated Blood Sciences comprises the disciplines of Automated Clinical Chemistry, Routine Haematology, Routine Coagulation (NGH) & Blood Transfusion. Specialist Blood Sciences further encompasses the specialised disciplines including Cell Markers, Haemolysis, Immunology and Specialised Clinical Chemistry & Toxicology.

As an integral part of the Blood Sciences Senior Team, you will have a key role in operating the framework for quality management across sections of the laboratory.
Main duties of the job
This is to include quality and clinical governance, staff development and training, information management, strategic planning, supplies management, capital procurement and personnel. You will supervise Registered BMS, Trainee BMS and Biomedical Science Assistant grades and co-ordinate the organisation of a departmental section(s) on a day-to-day basis and provide information and progress reports e.g., staffing, workload, performance, and non-conformities, to the Scientific Lead BMS section leads and Blood Sciences Manager at regular intervals.
You will also be responsible for monitoring and reporting staff attendance and allocating annual leave.
Candidates should be aware that, whilst not all BMS roles within SYB Pathology network require 24/7 working, positions within the Blood Sciences services involve participation in a 24/7 rota and cross-site working across the SYB Pathology network. Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our admin team, to carry out a full range of duties in order to provide an effective and efficient service for the Acute Medical Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care.
The role of the department is to provide high quality care to the patients and service users for inpatients and outpatients on the Acute Medical Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care. The units take direct admissions from G.P, Emergency Department and Clinic Referrals.
You will be required to work closely with all members of our Multi-Disciplinary Team to maintain service provision. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, appropriately prioritise their workload and be highly motivated.
The admin service for AMU/Medical SDEC covers 07:00-19:30 7 days a week. The post holder will be required to work 2x 12 hour shifts per week on a roster basis, inclusive of weekends and bank holidays.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work in 3 different roles covering AMU and Medical SDEC which will involve:
- To provide an efficient and effective reception for patients attending the departments, directing and helping visitors and patients with enquires.
- To act as first line of contact for all telephone enquiries to the ward/unit, re-directing calls when necessary
- To ensure patients are appropriately received, admitted, transferred, discharged and where necessary make outpatient appointments, using the Hospital Careflow system (electronic patient record system)
- General administration duties such as filing, scanning, photocopying and tracking medical notes
- To work closely with the multi-disciplinary ward team to maintain recognised standards promoting efficient ward management

Our Level 2 Local Neonatal Unit provides care for premature and sick newborn babies working closely with families to deliver safe, evidence-based, family-centred care.

Main duties of the job
As a Band 5 Neonatal Staff Nurse, you will:
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for babies requiring neonatal care.

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective care.
Support and educate parents, enabling them to develop confidence in caring for their baby.
Participate in admissions, transfers and discharge planning.
Administer medications safely in accordance with Trust policies.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and communicate effectively within the team.
Contribute to maintaining a safe clinical environment and high standards of patient care.
Willingness to develop neonatal knowledge and skills.
