Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute Therapies Team at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. This role involves supporting the therapy teams to provide assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for a wide range of patients within the acute inpatient setting.
This role will primarily work within the medical specialties at St Helier Hospital, covering a diverse range of clinical areas including respiratory, cardiac, general medicine, and haematology. Working within these specialties offers exposure to a varied patient population and a broad range of clinical presentations, providing an excellent environment in which to develop knowledge, skills, and experience.
As an Acute Occupational Therapy Technical Assistant, you will work closely with qualified therapists to deliver hands-on patient care, supporting individuals to achieve their rehabilitation goals and maximise their independence. The role includes assisting with the assessment and treatment of patients, facilitating physical rehabilitation programmes, and supporting safe and effective discharge planning.
This is a vital role within the therapy service, contributing to the smooth running of the team and ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality care. You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person-centred care and achieving the best possible outcomes for patients.
Main duties of the job
o To work closely with the Acute Therapies team to support the smooth functioning of the service in promoting rehabilitation and timely discharges for the inpatients of St Helier Hospital.
o To provide specialist and skilled assistance in the delivery of Acute Therapy services for adults and older people.
o To plan, review and independently implement rehabilitation and enablement programs for a variety of clients in varying settings, within a defined area of competence.
o To work closely with Multidisciplinary Teams and other professionals, particularly in relation to patient mobility and enablement, including assessment for and provision of appropriate equipment, and to assist in the development of good working relationships with statutory, voluntary and independent organisations.
o To contribute to the development of this role within the Trust and Acute Therapies
o To contribute to the provision of a 7-day service by participating in weekend rotas

Job summary
The Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide specialist nursing care, assessment, treatment, education and ongoing support to children and young people with asthma and other respiratory conditions across acute and community settings. The post holder will manage a specialist caseload, deliver nurse-led and multidisciplinary clinics, undertake respiratory assessments including FeNO and spirometry, and provide expert advice to children, families and healthcare professionals.
The role will work closely with paediatric respiratory consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, support safe discharge and transition to adult services, and promote evidence-based asthma and respiratory management. The post holder will also contribute to staff education, clinical audit, research, quality improvement, clinical governance and implementation of national asthma and respiratory standards across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Manage a specialist caseload of children and young people with asthma and respiratory conditions, providing assessment, treatment, education and ongoing support.
- Deliver nurse-led and multidisciplinary asthma/respiratory clinics and undertake specialist assessments, including FeNO, spirometry and skin prick testing.
- Provide specialist respiratory nursing advice and education to children, young people, families, carers and healthcare professionals.
- Support medicines optimisation and prescribe independently where appropriate, in accordance with service requirements.
- Coordinate care across acute, community and primary care settings, including complex discharge planning and transition to adult services.
- Provide education, clinical supervision and mentoring to nursing colleagues and act as a specialist respiratory resource across the Trust.
- Lead and contribute to clinical audit, research, quality improvement, clinical governance and implementation of national asthma and respiratory standards.
- Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to the development and review of local asthma and respiratory guidelines and pathways.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Hand Therapist to join our wonderful MSK Hand Therapy Team. Experience of working within a Hand Therapy Service is essential, preferably within the NHS and with experience of managing patients from Acute Elective, Acute Trauma, Plastics and Rheumatology.
We have an active In-Service training programme and excellent links with our Consultant Surgical colleagues who also provide training for the team.
The caseload is varied with the majority being acute trauma or post-elective surgery but also includes community referrals from local GPs and FCPs.
The Hand Therapy unit is very busy but the team are very cohesive and supportive of one and other. The Hand Therapy Service is also part of the wider Surrey Downs Health & Care MSK Service.
Main duties of the job
- To provide specialist hand assessments and treatment for clients who have had trauma/surgery to their upper limb and/or have chronic conditions. Provide and/or fabricate static and dynamic splints for individual patients, in order to prevent impairment and/or improve function, independence and quality of life.
- Applying specialist knowledge and skills across the total range of impairments, procedures and practices gained through practical experience, underpinned by theoretical knowledge.
- To assess and implement specialist treatment programmes as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining associated clinical records.
- To work unsupervised reporting back and receiving guidance and teaching from the senior hand therapist / team leader on a regular basis.
- To participate in the day-to-day management of the specialist service provision undertaking tasks as delegated by the Team Leader, supporting less experienced therapists, and non-registered staff members on a daily basis.
- To provide formal supervision to nominated staff members and students.
- Where required this role may include cross site working with St Helier Hospital and/or provision of Hand Therapy within Consultant Led Clinics at Epsom General Hospital or at St Helier and the post holder must be able to make the necessary travel arrangements.

We have an established band 6 Neuro rotation which offers experience in the following areas: Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; Acute Stroke Unit; Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation; Early Supported Discharge Team and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to adult inpatients within the Trust
To assess and treat own caseload of patients, who may have complex presentation, and maintains associated records, as an autonomous practitioner
To supervise and teach recently qualified physiotherapists/physiotherapy assistants/students and involvement in teaching MDT staff.
To undertake evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and may participate in departmental research and audit
To assist the Band 7 Physiotherapist by monitoring caseloads, recording statistics and prioritising referrals as required
To liaise effectively with other disciplines
Competence in rehabilitation is required, with time spent in stroke and neurorehabilitation desirable.

This post would be suitable for individuals who are seeking a career as a specialist shoulder surgeon and has an excellent track record of candidates progressing to Consultant posts in the UK and overseas. Candidates should have completed higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics including relevant experience in the subspecialty of shoulder and upper limb. Possession of the FRCS(Orth) or equivalent and full GMC registration are essential. Candidates must have achieved the CCT and be eligible for entry on to the UK Specialist Register prior to commencement of the post. Individuals who do not possess FRCS(Orth) or equivalent and a CCT need not apply.
This post will work alongside our current Shoulder & Elbow consultants, Mr Patel and Mr Little.
Main duties of the job
The post offers instruction in the management of patients with a range of shoulder and upper limb problems and exposure to surgery from basic to complex including arthroscopic reconstruction, primary and complex arthroplasty, trauma and post-trauma reconstruction. The post provides ample training opportunities in surgery of the shoulder, elbow and upper limb. The post holder will be expected to complete a service improvement project and participate actively in audit, research and teaching. The post holder's duties will include delivering care for patients under the care of the Shoulder and upper limb service, providing support to junior medical staff and receiving support and training from Consultant staff. Specific responsibilities will include overseeing the upper limb trauma service as well as the outcomes programme for shoulder and elbow surgery.
The successful applicant will be eligible to apply for the BOA Future Leaders Programme. All BOA Leadership Fellows must be members of the BOA, or join prior to commencing the scheme. The programme cost for 2025-26 is £3960/- (including VAT) and may be subject to change. Two thirds of the cost is met by the host Trust whilst the Future Leader Fellow will be responsible for one third of the cost (this does not include travel and accommodation costs). The holder is expected to be able to be competent to independently provide diagnostic cellular pathology reporting service as part of a team respectfully and in cooperation with consultant cellular pathology colleagues and associated staff.This post has arisen to service increasing workload. The post holder/s will join a team of 7existing Consultant Cellular Pathologists. The department is ISO 15189:2022 accredited. The department receives approximately 30,000 histology requests (42,000 specimens), 2000 Non-gynae cases. The department ceased to participate in cytological cervical screening in December 2019 in line with national initiatives.
There have not been hospital autopsies for two years. Coroner's autopsies are performed by the Corners pathologist. Work is allocated according to Royal college workload units determined by available direct clinical care sessions in individuals agreed team job plans.The department has moved to a partially subspecialist model and work is allocated to individuals according to their required number of daily units and a pre-circulated rota. This is derived from two sources: firstly, specialist work, and secondly this is supplemented by general histopathological reporting material according to remaining point capacity.
Main duties of the job
The specialist areas in the department include: Renal Pathology, Dermatopathology, Uropathology, Respiratory Pathology, head and neck pathology, Gynaecological pathology, Non -Gynae Cytology. It is anticipated that the post holder will support and have or be prepared to develop an interest in Dermatopathology, Gynaecology and Gastro Enterology and Uropathology and provide support for Respiratory pathology. Support for Non-gynae Cytopathology would also be welcome but other areas of interest will be considered. It is also expected that the post holder will participate in the service and training requirements of the Cervical Screening Programme for the reporting of Histology specimens. The partial subspecialist model is better suited to those with wide experience in histopathology. Following restructuring the main laboratory and processing facilities are at Epsom General Hospital. A satellite lab supporting the renal service, frozen sections, autopsy service, and cytopathology service is located at St Helier. The Skin Immuno fluorescence service is also provided at the St. Helier site.

The successful candidate will work across a variety of settings, including community clinics and domiciliary visits, managing a diverse caseload and providing treatment for a wide range of podiatric conditions. This role offers flexibility to develop a specialist interest, whether in MSK, Wound care, Diabetes, Nail surgery, or General podiatry.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role includes leadership duties such as teaching, mentoring and supervising both students and qualified podiatrists, as well as undertaking line management responsibilities. We are seeking a candidate who is reliable, motivated and committed to ongoing professional development, with strong organisational and communication skills, excellent time management and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Applicants must have experience managing high-risk patients and a proven background in community podiatry services. Experience in nail surgery is desirable.
Main duties of the job
- To lead and professionally support a team of podiatrists within Surrey Downs Health and Care.
- To lead in the evaluation, planning and implementation of service redesign and related policies and procedures, in liaison with podiatry clinical Lead and operational manager.
- To be integrally involved in the supporting both clinical lead and operational management of the podiatry service, embracing evidence-based medicine and developments in podiatric practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a part time role to improve access to heart failure services for Epsom and St Helier. We ideally would like somebody with heart failure experience that is keen to improve the access to specialised care in hospital and assisting in the transition to the community.
Main duties of the job
We are an expanding cardiology team and we are looking for an experienced heart failure specialist or cardiology nurse who wants to help shape the care we deliver.
Working closely with the lead Heart Failure specialist nurse, the Cardiology Matron and the lead Heart Failure Consultant, you will run and develop thediagnostic and treatment pathways for heart failure patients promoting high quality care across the care continuum from tertiary to primarycare, engaging with healthcare professionals across the network.
The post holder will also be required to support clinical staff in heart failure management plans; make appropriate onward referrals for follow up care; be involved in optimisation of medical therapy; provide education and support to patients, relatives and carers in both inpatient and outpatient settings with the aim being to reduce symptoms, prevent unnecessary admissions/readmission and maximise patients' quality of life. The role involves working closely with the community heart failure teams and the collection of data for local and national audits. You will have a keen interest in education, research, training and development.

An opportunity has arisen within the Cellular Pathology Department for a full time specimen dissector. The post holder(s) will have appropriate skills to support our Technical Leads across a number of specialist sections of this division.

We are looking for enthusiastic, and hard working BMS's who should be HCPC registered and have considerable experience working in a diagnostic histopathology laboratory.
The post holder(s) are expected to participate, as appropriate, in regional and national groups to develop guidelines and support development of Cellular Pathology provision across the London 5 network.
The department is an approved training laboratory and has full accreditation. We encourage personal development and actively support the IBMS CPD scheme by holding regular meetings and encouraging attendance at external meetings. Participation in further studies will be supported.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide and co-ordinate specialist clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.
2. To undertake the day-to-day management of a section within the laboratory under the direction of a line manager.
3. Contribute to providing a professional clinical technical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.
4. To provide the necessary training and supervision to staff within the section.
5. To actively participate in the extended BMS role of histology specimen dissection. As a guide working time will be approximately apportioned as a Specimen dissector. This will encompass B-E grade specimens, routine Advanced BMS duties including acting as the designated person responsible for managing and co-ordinating activities within the cut-up or routine section of the Histopathology Laboratory (this role may be shared with other Advanced BMS posts).
The post-holder responsibilities will include provision of advanced technical support, supervision, training, and management to provide a technical service that meet the Trust and national standards.

Paediatric Asthma Clinical Nurse Specialist - 30 hours per week

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Manage a specialist caseload of children and young people with asthma and respiratory conditions, providing assessment, treatment, education and ongoing support.
- Deliver nurse-led and multidisciplinary asthma/respiratory clinics and undertake specialist assessments, including FeNO, spirometry and skin prick testing.
- Provide specialist respiratory nursing advice and education to children, young people, families, carers and healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job
This 10 PA post will be across Epsom and St Helier sites, but will be predominantly based at St Helier Hospital.
The appointee will work as part of a neurology consultant team that provides an out-patient neurology service and a daily out-reach service to patients admitted to the hospital and will support the further development of the Neurology service.
The successful candidate will foster and develop common Neurology policies Trust-wide in conjunction with the physicians at Epsom and St. Helier Hospitals and in addition will work closely with other acute general and specialist physicians of the Trust.
The appointee will take a role in developing new services in line with the Trust policy. They will work with the rest of clinical and managerial team to deliver quality improvements in the Neurology department and in the community. The appointee is expected to participate in regular Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance activities within the Neurology department and the Trust.

This is an exciting time to join the department following the successful implementation of a new Beckman Coulter automated Biochemistry and Immunoassay platform across Epsom and St Helier Hospitals. Main duties of the job
We are seeking to recruit a suitably qualified Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Clinical Blood Sciences team. The successful candidate will work primarily within Automated Biochemistry, with opportunities to work across other specialist areas of Clinical Biochemistry following appropriate training and competency assessment.
The successful candidate will play an important role throughout the analytical pathway, including sample processing, operation and maintenance of complex automated laboratory equipment, quality control, calibration, troubleshooting, analysis, validation and authorisation of patient results.
You will be expected to demonstrate sound scientific and technical knowledge, recognise and investigate analytical problems, take appropriate corrective action and escalate issues when necessary. You will also contribute to maintaining high standards of quality, patient safety and compliance with laboratory procedures and accreditation requirements.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and reliable individual who demonstrates a flexible approach to work and can contribute effectively within a busy multidisciplinary team.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician, South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) to join our friendly team and help shape the future of our pharmacy services at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals.
As a Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician, you will play a key role in providing high-quality, patient-centred care on the renal wards. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of medication reconciliation, a vital step in ensuring that patients receive the correct medications right from the start of their hospital stay. You will also be involved in the seamless management of Patients' Own Medication, supporting the efficient and effective practice of one-stop dispensing.

You will play a pivotal role in streamlining the patient experience, ensuring timely dispensation of To Take Out medications to support smooth and prompt patient discharges. Your adept communication skills will bridge connections with our community healthcare partners, ensuring that our patients receive a consistent and seamless continuum of care.

Main duties of the job
Your primary role being to undertake medicines reconciliation and take drug histories in order to ensure the patients receive the correct medications right from the start of their hospital stay to ensure that there is appropriate usage of Patient's Own medication and to promote one stop dispensing.
You will be involved throughout the patient journey helping the wards to ensure TTOs are dispensed prior to discharge, communicating effectively with our community colleagues when appropriate.
You will be an accredited checking technician (ACPT) and will have regular checking slots in the dispensary. In liaison with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services and other members of the pharmacy team you will also be involved in the management of medicines on the ward, audit and financial savings projects.
You will participate in late duty, Bank Holiday and weekend rotas and be part of a seven day service.
