Locum Consultant Neurologist
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts View all jobs
Posted 2 day(s) ago
Reference: 2374733
Job summary
Full-time Consultant Neurologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with a special interest in acute neurology and headache disordersin both inpatient and outpatient settings, the candidate will be expected to provide sub-specialty expertise to complement the delivery of a high quality, comprehensive Neurology service by the department. As of August 2026, neurology services in NUH is expected to expand bed base and move from a shared ward to a separate full warded bed base. This means increase consultant responsibility during oncalls. This will take place alongside restructuring our acute neurology provision from the current model.
NUH recognises the ongoing need for a General Internal Medicine (GIM) ward as a core component of acute medical service provision. To support this requirement and ensure sustainable ward staffing, all newly appointed consultants will have 0.5 WTE of their job plan allocated to GIM ward activity.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to do a mix of general neurology clinic and subspecialty clinics. Booking criteria for general neurology clinics are per the ABN guidance with 30 minutes allocated for a new patient and 15 minutes for each follow up patient. It is expected 5 patients are booked into each general neurology clinic and the rest of the clinic can be follow up slots. Each Clinic session is usually 4 hours. The number of clinics expected to be performed by the successful candidate is included in the job plan attached.
The post-holder will be responsible for the care of patients in his or her charge. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the delivery of teaching and training to students at Nottingham University Medical School, as well as to contribute to the teaching, training and supervision of Specialist Trainees in Neurology, who are in the East Midlands Deanery training programme
About us
Clinical Neurology forms part of the Nottingham Regional Neuroscience Unit and serves the population of Nottingham. It also provides an outreach neurological service to Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield. We continue to engage with other peripheral hospitals and support their neurology services as needed
The delivery of Inpatient Care is on a "Consultant of the Week" (COTW) system, and the post-holder will contribute to what is currently a 1 in 15 rota. The neurology ward is a shared area with neurosurgery, and on average we have around 30 neurology inpatients on the neurology or outlying wards during the oncall week. In addition the CotW supervises the oncall take consisting of inpatients referred for neurology advice by other specialities.

Posted 2 day(s) ago
Reference: 2374731
Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to appoint a locum post to expand the provision of gastroenterology services in Nottingham. The appointees will join a team of over 30 NHS and academic gastroenterologists and hepatologists working in the department at present and will have the opportunity to establish their own subspecialist interest. A small bowel, functional, intestinal failure or IBD interest would be particularly welcome but is not essential, and a wide range of luminal gastroenterology interests could be accommodated.
Main duties of the job
The appointees will provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services both in clinics and endoscopically according to their interests to patients across the QMC and Nottingham City Hospital sites. They will contribute to the acute gastroenterology on call service (currently 1:18), week day daytime cover at City Hospital (3 weeks per annum) and will contribute to inpatient care of luminal gastroenterology patients at QMC for 12 weeks a year in 2 week blocks. At least 2 PAs will be dedicated to supporting professional activities in the initial job plan and job plans are open to discussion and amendment to suit the needs of consultants and the department.
About us
The Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Hepatology inpatient beds are located at the QMC campus. Emergency inpatient endoscopies, ERCP, EUS, EMR & RFA are provided from the endoscopy suite at QMC. Out-patient clinics and elective endoscopy are delivered from the Nottingham Treatment Centre on the QMC site.
Although we do not have any in-patient Gastroenterology/Hepatology facilities on the City Hospital Campus, we provide senior GI, Nutrition & Hepatology consultations for other specialty in-patients, and out-patient Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endoscopy and Nutrition services. The Endoscopy unit at NCH provides elective and emergency diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy facilities. It is a designated bowel cancer screening centre.
Dedicated Day Case Gastroenterology services, non-malignant radiology and histopathology MDTs, and administrative support are available on both campuses.
