We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) to join our friendly team on the RSSC Respiratory Ward.
Working as part of our multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in supporting patients throughout their hospital journey. You will provide high-quality, compassionate care while helping patients feel safe, valued and supported during what can be a difficult and uncertain time.
We are looking for people who genuinely care about others and want to make a positive difference every day.

Whilst you may have experience in a care or hospital setting you may not have completed your Care Certificate, which is essential for this role. If so we would still like you to apply and if offered a post you will be employed initially on a band 2 salary, pay step 1 but on completion of the Care Certificate (generally within 12-16 weeks) you would move to the Band 3 salary, pay step 1

Job summary
We are seeking a professional and proactive individual to join our existing Critical Care Ward Clerk team. This is an excellent opportunity where your interpersonal and organisational skills will make a real difference to patients, families and your colleagues every day.
One of the primary responsibilities of the role is being the first point of contact for families, both on the telephone and face to face, you will greet them with warmth and compassion, help them feel informed and provide a consistent, friendly and approachable service during their admission in Critical Care.
You will also support the clinical and admin teams managing patient data with a focus on attention to detail.
This role requires an individual who:
- is an excellent communicator and has strong interpersonal skills.
- is self-motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- is flexible and organised with an eye for detail.
- has experience in a face-to-face receptionist role, preferably within a healthcare setting; relevant experience in other settings would be considered.
- has excellent IT skills and have a high level numeracy and literacy.
Shifts are worked across a 7 day week rota basis. Hours fall between 08:30 and 20:30, with shift patterns varying according to service needs.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include handling first-line enquiries from patients, relatives, and staff via telephone, as well as providing a professional, sensitive, and welcoming in-person reception service within the dedicated Critical Care visitors' facility. All interactions must be conducted with discretion and in confidence to comply with the Trust's Information Governance policies.
Assist with the coordination of patient activity through the Critical Care area by completing designated admission and discharge tasks via EPR system and in collaboration with PALS.
Working with the Critical Care in charge teams to ensure that an accurate bed state is maintained at all times.
Retrieval and track patient CAF notes efficiently via EPR system, organising prompt return to HRD on discharge in line with Trust policy.
Support Bedside Nursing team with recording and management of patient property and when required, deliver items with value to the Cashiers Office for safekeeping and retrieve patient property from the wards.
Provide designated patient NOK with appropriately signed letters to apply for concessionary car parking tickets with clear escalation for any exceptional circumstances when required and maintain spreadsheet of issue dates.
Discharge patients via ERP from the Critical Care area, ensuring accurate RTT (Referral to Treatment) code is applied.
Routinely collect Patient Experience data in advance of discharge to the ward as appropriate with patients or their relatives.

Job summary
We are seeking a motivated, proactive, and self-directed Research Nurse or Clinical Trials Coordinator to join the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart and Lung Research Institute (VPD-HLRI) Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and play a key role in delivering the POSITION study, part of the CG-TIC programme.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative clinical research that aims to advance our understanding of respiratory disease while supporting the development of future healthcare interventions. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, recruiting, consenting, and supporting research participants, helping to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, patient-centred research.
Based within the VPD-HLRI Clinical Research Facility, you will work across both the Heart and Lung Research Institute and Royal Papworth Hospital as part of a multidisciplinary research team. You will be involved in all aspects of study delivery, from participant recruitment and trial coordination through to data collection and study close-out.
Applicants should have experience supporting clinical research studies and working with patients in a clinical setting. A recognised clinical research qualification, such as Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification, is desirable. Previous NHS experience and experience within a relevant specialty area would be advantageous.
You will be based at the VPD-HLRI and Royal Papworth Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for coordinating study activities, arranging and conducting participant visits, obtaining informed consent, collecting high-quality research data, and ensuring compliance with study protocols, regulatory requirements, and research governance standards. You will work closely with investigators, clinical teams, academic collaborators, sponsors, and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the study.
As a key member of the Research Team, you will be responsible for the delivery of the POSITION study at the VPD Heart and Lung Research Institute Clinical Research Facility and Royal Papworth Hospital.
This role offers a balance of collaborative team working and individual responsibility within a supportive and dynamic research environment. In addition to coordinating clinical trials, you will receive training and support to develop and maintain research-specific clinical competencies, including venepuncture, ECG recording, vital signs assessment, sample processing, and centrifugation.
The successful applicant will be part of the VPD-HLRI Clinical Research Facility (CRF) team undertaking trials within the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. You will liaise closely with HLRI-CRF team members, clinical trial delivery teams, and support R&D teams and study sponsor representatives. You will be expected to operate with minimum supervision in organising and planning your own workload.

Job summary
The link between education and delivering the highest standards of care and best patient outcomes is indisputable. As the post holder, you will be a crucial member of the education and development team, working within the admin and clerical function, supporting the Clinical Education Team to deliver high-quality education across a range of learner groups. Main duties of the job
The role sits within Clinical Education and works closely with Admin and Clerical functions across various education services in the Trust, including Medical and Workforce Education. Arranging diaries
Using conference or video calling software
Timetable formation
Information dissemination to faculty and learner groups

Job summary
The post is suitable for intensivists wishing to enhance their specialist experience in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic critical care, including transplantation, mechanical assist devices, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, focused ultrasound examinations and transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE). Applicants will be expected to have completed or be within two years of completing specialist training in their parent specialty.
Specialist Registrars currently enrolled in a UK training programme who wish to retain their National Training Number (NTN) whilst at Royal Papworth, should discuss this 'out-of-programme-experience' (OOP) with their Programme Director. Those not currently in a UK training programme will be appointed as Senior Clinical Fellows, and will be Locally Employed doctors within the Trust. UK applicants should be aware that time spent in a Trust appointed post may not be counted towards the award of the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Prospective approval for up to one year can normally be sought from the relevant Royal College when a numbered post has been obtained following such an appointment. Overseas candidates are advised to check the latest GMC requirements for registration, including English language skills.
This post is available for a period of 6 to 12 months starting February 2027.Main duties of the job
*To participate fully in the delivery of critical care services, research, and training and educational programmes;
*To maintain a logbook and appropriate records of progress;
*To participate in regular performance reviews;
*To provide an out of hours' service;
o The ICU Specialist Registrars (Resident) or ICU Fellow will provide immediate support for the critical care areas and emergency resuscitation support for the entire hospital;
o The daytime ICU cover is provided by 3 ICU consultants along with a minimum of four doctors, including ICU fellows, ICU higher specialty trainees, Internal Medicine trainees and Foundation Programme Doctors. At night, there are 3 registrar level doctors, plus cover for the Enhanced Recovery Unit is provided by a resident doctor in Anaesthesia.
*To complete accurate records, such as patient notes and medical audit records;
*Participation in teaching of medical staff, undergraduate students and other non-medical staff as required by the hospital;

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Band 4 Administrative Co-ordinator/PA to provide comprehensive administrative and PA support to the Histopathology and wider Pathology Services team. We have Pathologists and Microbiologists based at Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) and the laboratory services are provided by Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) and UKHSA. This is a key role supporting consultants, senior management, and the multidisciplinary pathology team, ensuring the smooth running of administrative processes within a busy and fast paced clinical environment. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Main duties of the job
Provide comprehensive secretarial and PA support to consultants and senior staff within Histopathology and Pathology Services.
Manage complex diaries, meetings, appointments, room bookings, agendas, and accurate minute-taking.
Act as the first point of contact for internal and external enquiries, ensuring professional communication with clinicians, staff, and stakeholders.
Check daily the dictated macro/micro files for Papworth dissection and histology microscopy reports.
Liaise with MDT teams to organise any requests for tissue/slides and reports from external stakeholders including situation updates and dates for listing patients for discussion.
To book in requested material using local PAS (EPIC).
Coordinate administrative workloads, prioritise tasks effectively, and support the efficient delivery of pathology services.

We have an exciting opportunity in Critical Care at Royal Papworth Hospital with an excellent team of nurses and healthcare support workers providing expert care to patients and their families.

You will be involved in providing highly specialised care to critically unwell patients with complex nursing care needs. To support you in your career development we have a dedicated Critical Care Education team committed to supporting you. You will be expected to complete the Care Certificate if not already in possession supported by the clinical Education team. You will then commence the Critical Care Healthcare support worker competencies including supportive and assistive levels. To support your development in Critical Care you will be given supernumerary support, study days and our dedicated Critical Care Education Senior Healthcare Support worker will be there through every step of your journey with us.

We have a vacancy for a Band 5 dietitian to join our experienced and friendly team of dietitians and dietetic support staff. This rotational role offers the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of nutrition support including short and long term enteral feeding, supporting patients pre and post-surgery and those with long-term respiratory support needs.

This is a permanent, full time 37.5 hours per week role.

Main duties of the job
You will undertake comprehensive dietetic assessments of cardiothoracic patients who have a variety of clinical presentations and be responsible for daily prioritising of your caseload. This could also include attending multidisciplinary group meetings on behalf of the department or patient related as required.
You will provide support to other specialist areas in the absence of colleagues after appropriate training. This could include transplant, respiratory support and sleep centre and cystic fibrosis.
We provide dietetic student placements for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and you will be involved in the student training programme.
As part of your role, you will contribute to audits and service development with opportunity to build your CPD portfolio. We have access to a range of CPD opportunities both internally and external nutrition related conferences such as BAPEN. In addition, you will be expected to keep up to date on dietetic knowledge by reviewing relevant journal articles, contributing to department journal club and attending relevant study days.

Job summary
Royal Papworth Hospital is seeking a dynamic pharmacist to join our established trust antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) team and will have a shared responsibility for the leadership and operational delivery of a high-quality antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programme in line with the agreed priorities for the Trust. The post holder will be working with the AMS Team to optimise antimicrobials to ensure that infections are effectively treated, patients are protected from the harms caused by unnecessary antimicrobial use and combat antimicrobial resistance.
This role offers the post holder a great deal of flexibility and we would encourage prospective candidates to get in touch to discuss the opportunities available. Royal Papworth AMS Team is a small, close multidisciplinary team and this role will work in collaboration with all clinical directorates. As a pharmacy department we are committed to supporting flexible working and continuous education. Our staff are encouraged to attend conferences and networking events, participate in research and enrol on leadership courses.

Main duties of the job
Responsible for providing expert pharmaceutical advice, including specialist antimicrobial advice across all clinical areas of the Trust to prescribers, clinicians, nursing staff, pharmacy colleagues and patients to deliver high quality pharmaceutical care and improve patient safety.
To work with the AMS Team to deliver trust and ICB objectives, including optimising antimicrobial prescribing, and removing inappropriate patient penicillin allergy labels.
To undertake an audit/service evaluation on behalf of the AMS Team based on previously identified needs in AMS Team annual strategy.
To work with the AMS Team to deliver training programmes and audit feedback to educate prescribers, pharmacists and nursing staff on the safe and effective use of antimicrobials.
To participate in the AMS Team journal club.
To act as a deputy to the Lead Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist, providing professional input into Trust activities to deliver safe and effective Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) practices across the Trust.
Responsible for contributing directly to patient anti-infective treatment by undertaking Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection management ward rounds to various ward areas.
Liaises with pharmacy staff and provides leadership and mentorship to deliver RPH antimicrobial priorities.
The post-holder(s) will be an independent prescriber and prescribe medicines for agreed patients within their own level of experience and competence, and in line with current legislation and local polices

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified or experienced Band 5 physiotherapists tojoin our supportive, dynamic, and growing Physiotherapy team in our internationally renowned Cardiothoracic Hospital at Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have one 10-month post available, during which you will gain experience in respiratory medicine and cardiothoracic surgery physiotherapy in our passionate, forward thinking, and friendly Physiotherapy team.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate physiotherapist to join our team providing a comprehensive physiotherapy service to patients with a wide range of cardio-respiratory conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings across the following rotations:
-Cardiothoracic surgery
-Transplantation
-Cardiology & Cardiac rehabilitation
-Respiratory Medicine
-Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC).
-Critical Care
Please note that as the positions available are fixed term, you will not rotate through all clinical areas during this contract.

Main duties of the job
To provide a comprehensive Physiotherapy service to patients with a wide range of cardio-respiratory conditions in in-patient settings. To build on developed physiotherapy skills and consolidate specialist skills in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy required to manage these patient groups via 6 month rotational system.
Rotations are in the following areas:
Transplant & Cardiac Surgery,
Thoracic Surgery & Pulmonary Endarterectomy Surgery
Intensive Care
Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and Pulmonary Rehabilitation,
Respiratory Medicine including Bronchiectasis, ILD, Pulmonary Hypertension and Cystic Fibrosis
Cardiology & Cardiac Rehabilitation
Clinical support will be provided through mentorship by a Band 6 Physiotherapist. After completing the initial training, the post holder will be expected to participate in the seven-day working / on-call / late shift rotas as appropriate.
You will be part of a friendly, supportive, and proactive team, with a full induction and mentorship programme. We encourage and support staff with involvement in service development and audit. There are opportunities for staff to access specialist courses within the cardiothoracic field.

Job summary
This is a fixed-term Band 4 RTT Validation and PIFU Support Officer role within Cardiology Services until 31st March 2027. The primary focus of the role is the validation and management of RTT and DM01 patient pathways, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with national access standards.
Post holder responsible for analysing and interpreting patient pathway information, proactively tracking pathways, identifying delays, risks and data quality issues, and taking appropriate action to resolve or escalate these in line with national guidance. A good working knowledge of RTT and/or DM01 rules and validation processes is essential.
The post holder will work independently to prioritise workload and support delivery of access targets, while working collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to ensure patients progress through their pathways safely and in a timely manner.
Main duties of the job
In addition, the post holder will provide administrative support to Patient Initiated Follow-Up (PIFU) processes, representing approximately 10% of the role, ensuring patients are accurately recorded, monitored and able to access services when required.
The role requires proactive tracking of patient pathways across diagnostic and treatment stages. The post holder will identify delays, risks and potential breaches, prioritising pathways based on urgency and impact, and taking appropriate action to resolve issues or escalate concerns to clinical and operational teams.
The NCI Coordinator role will be based at the Royal Papworth Hospital (Cambridge Biomedical Campus).

We are now looking to appoint an ACC Clinical Coder who will enjoy the challenge of working in a Specialist Cardiothoracic Coding team at Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) NHS Foundation Trust on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. You will be providing accurate clinical coding to National Standards and Clinical Coding rules and conventions. Job summary
We currently have a vacancy within our Surgical and Thoracic team who are based on the Fifth floor at Royal Papworth Hospital.
The post within the team is fundamental in ensuring that the patients' experience is always a positive one. The post holder will work closely with the Ward nursing team to support the achievement of an excellent standard of care on the wards for in-patients by providing a robust system of cleaning and maintenance of essential equipment and clinical areas within the wards.
The post holder will also be required to support the storage and documentation of patients' property and valuables in accordance with hospital policy and procedure and complete audits to improve future patient care.
Main duties of the job
The skills we are looking for are attention to detail, tact, patience, accurate data entry, the ability to liaise with colleagues throughout the Hospital and beyond, excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to make yourself understood on a telephone with a professional and respectful manner.
You should be enthusiastic to work within an environmental maintenance role, have some customer care or office experience with an understanding of what this entails and is able to contribute positively to the patient pathway.

Main duties of the job
As the Ward Sisters Administrator, you will work closely with the Wards Sisters and clinical team to maintain ward functionality. You will provide administrative support in relation to clinical staffing matters, ensuring the smooth running of electronic rotas, induction of new staff, day-to-day workforce management and ensure that adequate stationery stocks are held, managed and ordered in a timely manner. Handling personnel information with the upmost confidentiality and discretion.
You will work alongside the Ward Sisters Administrator for 5 South and will be provided with mentorship and protected learning time as you develop into your role. We are seeking a Locum Consultant Cardiologist in Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Heart Transplantation.
You will work within a highly skilled and collaborative Cardiothoracic Transplant team, contributing to a wide range of specialist services including advanced heart failure, short and longer-term mechanical circulatory support, peri-operative medicine, intensive care medicine and immediate and life-long post heart transplant care including management of complex co-morbid patients.

Main duties of the job
Care of transplant patients in conjunction with the other transplant physicians throughout the assessment process, immediate post-transplant care and life long follow-up.
Provide ward and intensive care management for patients with advanced heart failure, heart transplant recipients and patients supported on MCS. Provide cover for lung transplant patients during on-call weekends.
To ensure that national heart failure and transplant standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence-based practice and appraisal.
Contribute to the training of junior doctors in accordance with standards required by the Royal Colleges, Postgraduate Dean and hospital.
Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development.
