The post holder will be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but will rotate between the Paediatric Emergency Department at SRH and the Childrens Urgent Care Unit at South Tyneside District Hospital on a regular basis to enhance their skills and knowledge in care delivery to children requiring non-urgent, urgent and emergency treatment.
Main duties of the job
Duties of the post include; triage and assessment, caring for children in the high acuity area/high dependency rooms/resuscitation room, administering medications, carrying out physiological observations and responding to changes within these, applying treatments and dressings, health promotion, nurse led discharge for a limited range of conditions, distraction and play therapy and applying longer term care in the short stay assessment unit.
Personal development opportunities can be gained through in-house training, simulation training and external courses including PILS, APLS, NLS, clinical skills and leadership modules. Career progression is supported and encouraged and we currently have almost 30 positions at Band 6 or above within our team including Sisters, Managers, Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
Successful candidates will be registered childrens nurses who can demonstrate a friendly, honest and caring attitude and are willing to develop their skills, knowledge and role within the departments as their experience grows.
Recent work in an acute paediatric environment is essential and previous experience in a Paediatric Emergency Department/Urgent Care Centre is desirable. You will also be expected to demonstrate a reliable work record, flexibility in working hours and evidence of continued professional development.
