Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Education and Development Team as a Placement Learning Facilitator. In this rewarding role, you will support and enhance the placement experience for learners, helping them develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress from student to registered practitioner.
Working across a range of clinical settings, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote high-quality learning environments that support evidence-based practice and excellent patient care. You will also contribute to the delivery of education and development programmes that support staff development, recruitment, retention and wellbeing across the Trust.
The successful candidate will work closely with key stakeholders, including higher education institutions, clinical teams and professional bodies, to coordinate and further develop high-quality practice learning opportunities. You will help ensure that placements meet the standards and requirements of NHS England, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), supporting the development of a skilled and compassionate future workforce.
Main duties of the job
This rewarding role will lead the coordination and planning of practice placements across the Trust, ensuring learners receive high-quality clinical learning experiences that support their education, professional development and transition into practice.
Working closely with Higher Education Institutions, clinical teams and placement providers, you will coordinate placements across a range of professions, learner cohorts and academic programmes. You will help maintain high-quality learning environments, supporting the preparation of Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors in line with the Trust's commitment to quality, patient safety and excellent patient experience.
You will contribute to PARE profiles, educational audits and improvement plans, support student evaluation processes, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to enhance placement quality and learner experience.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and organised individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can work independently, build effective relationships and provide support to learners and staff. The role is primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional off-site working and flexibility required for university events.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Sterile Services Department as a Trainee Sterile Services Technician (Band 2).
This is a key role supporting the safe and effective decontamination, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical devices used across the Trust, including surgical instruments, endoscopy equipment, and specialist items.
You will also support Endoscopy Decontamination services and Mattress Decontamination processes, contributing to maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control across multiple clinical areas.
As a trainee, full training and support will be provided, with opportunities to develop your skills and progress within the department.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the decontamination and reprocessing of surgical instruments, flexible endoscopes, mattresses, and reusable medical devices to ensure they are safe and available for patient use. Duties include inspecting, assembling, packing, sterilising, and tracking medical devices, operating washer disinfectors, sterilizers, and specialist decontamination equipment, and maintaining accurate records.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive therapy team within the Community Respiratory Service at Breathing Space.
The post is 33.45 hours over five days, with a working pattern of 8:30am4:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8:30am12:15pm on Wednesday.
You will play an important role within our multidisciplinary team, working with and alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and nursing colleagues across the wider Community Respiratory Service.
The role offers a varied and rewarding workload, including pulmonary rehabilitation, assessment clinics, observation clinics, venepuncture and home visits, providing opportunities to support patients at different stages of their respiratory care.
Our aim is to maximise patients independence, function and confidence in managing their respiratory conditions, while supporting them to remain active and engaged in their own health and wellbeing.
NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent is essential. Please also refer to the Personal Specification within the job description.
Experience of working within community or acute hospital therapy teams would be desirable.

Supporting clinical assessments and pulmonary rehabilitation, including recording observations such as BP, oxygen levels, FeNO, height and weight.

Undertake assessment and recording of basic cardiac investigations (including 12 Lead ECG and Ambulatory ECG & BP Monitors) and basic patient clinical observations as part of the overall assessment of a patient. Work under the supervision of Qualified Cardiac Physiologists at all times, who hold delegated accountability for the work designated Basic clinical observations i.e. heart rate, height, weight Perform 12 Lead Electrocardiogram (ECG)Lying and standing blood pressure Fit and remove Ambulatory ECG and BP monitors To recognise normal and abnormal heart rhythms at a basic interpretation level To assist in the training of new starters and trainees To recognise situations or test findings which need bringing to the attention of senior colleagues/ medical staff for clinical interpretation To check the technical quality and calibration of basic equipment and to report any adverse findings to a senior member of staff To assist in other areas of cardiology under supervision as appropriate To transport (portering) patients to different areas of the hospital where appropriate To assist in other areas of cardiology under supervision as appropriate Performance of basic care procedures and techniques To work flexibly in accordance with the department needs. We are pleased to offer the opportunity for a Consultant ENT Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Otology and Paediatric ENT to join our friendly and supportive team of ENT Surgeons in Rotherham. This is a fixed term post for 12 months to cover a colleague on secondment. The department currently consists of 5 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 2 Specialty doctors, 1 Specialty Registrar and 6 Foundation/Core trainees working jointly with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals. Day-case surgery and outpatient clinics are provided at Rotherham Hospital with inpatient care provided at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Main duties of the job
Virtually all aspects of ENT are carried out by the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust Consultants, except those requiring regional involvement for example skull base surgery and specialised paediatrics. Day surgery and outpatient clinics are held at the Rotherham NHS foundation trust site, whilst inpatient surgery and emergencies, including on-call work, are carried out at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The out of hours on-call commitment is currently 1:13 with prospective cover.
The post holder will contribute to the provision and development of the general ENT and otology service, including paediatric ENT, at Rotherham. They will work as part of a team of 5 Consultants and will be expected to contribute to the training of the Specialty Registrars who rotate through the Yorkshire and Humberside Training Rotation, as well as providing supervision and support to our middle grade and junior medical staff. There are opportunities to be involved in medical audit and research as well as the teaching of medical undergraduates. The Rotherham Childrens Public Health Nursing Service are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner with initiative and drive.
Our 0-19 service delivers high quality public health nursing, promotes healthy lifestyles and improves health inequalities to children, young people and their families in Rotherham. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join the Intermediate Care rehabilitation team.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team to aid enablement and provide rehabilitation to patients across the Rotherham Borough. The team includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, specialist mental health occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and therapy support workers.
The team works closely with a wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) of social workers, nurses, doctors, Unit managers, care and enabling staff and voluntary sector.
The successful candidate will hold their own caseload as well as supporting qualified staff to provide therapy for their patients throughout their time within intermediate care. The post holder will be provided with support to develop and build on competencies within the clinical setting.
The successful candidate needs to be able to work autonomously and as part of the MDT. They need to have good communication skills both verbally and non-verbally. They need to be comfortable performing personal care tasks for patients and comfortable working with patients who have complex physical, emotional and psychological challenges.

The anaesthetic and critical care department serves a modern and recently expanded theatre and day surgery complex with adjacent ITU and HDU facilities. The department has an excellent reputation and enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and would welcome applicants with a teaching interest.
Non-consultant colleagues are represented in senior roles in our department and very much valued for their clinical and non-clinical experience and capabilities. Specialty doctors occupy senior roles within our department with colleagues currently working as Associate Medical Director, Trust appraisers, LNC deputy chair and undertaking the departmental lead role for clinical effectiveness and audit as examples.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will share responsibilities within the department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. The successful candidate will be required to provide 8.5 PA per week of clinical activity arranged as daytime and out of hours working and 1.5 PA per week of SPA. Additional clinical PAs may be available dependent upon the needs of the anaesthetic department, and the appointee will be encouraged to take on additional SPA roles determined by their interests and the needs of the department.

The Department
We currently have 30 substantive Consultant Anaesthetists, 13 Specialty Doctors and 2 Associate Specialists. The trainee establishment consists of eight core trainees, together with four intermediate and higher-level trainees all rotating from the South Yorkshire Anaesthetic Training Rotation. The department also has one Foundation Year 2 doctor on a 4-month rotation within critical care.
Non-consultant colleagues are represented in senior roles in our department and very much valued for their clinical and non-clinical experience and capabilities. Specialty doctors occupy senior roles within our department with colleagues currently working as Associated Medical Director, Trust appraisers, LNC deputy chair and undertaking the departmental lead role for clinical effectiveness and audit as examples.
Elective Surgery
Elective surgical lists are either half or full day and run for either 4 or 8 hours. Anaesthetists are allocated an extra hour per half day for pre-op assessment and post-op care. Surgical specialties include: general surgery (including laparoscopic colorectal surgery), orthopaedics and trauma, gynaecology, urology, ENT, maxillofacial, breast surgery, ophthalmology. We have an excellent Day Surgery Unit and one of our colleagues is the President of the British Association of Day Surgery (BADS).
We have an excellent regional anaesthesia service with higher and advanced training modules and a paediatric exodontia anaesthesia service and a community dental sedation service. In addition to the above we are the referral centre for ECT and we also provide a regular cardioversion service.
We have a resident Professor and a strong anaesthesia and critical care research portfolio participating in many international and national portfolio studies with input from funded trust research nurses. Many colleagues take advantage of this expertise to participate in research.
Obstetric Anaesthesia and Analgesia
Rotherham has a busy obstetric unit. In 2018 there were approx. 3000 deliveries. Fifteen sessions per week are currently covered by seven Consultant Anaesthetists and senior SAS colleagues with dedicated consultant cover until 9pm in the evenings. Out of hours, cover is provided by the resident doctor on-call as part of the team with consultant cover. The weekend days have anaesthetist covering Labour Ward and helping in theatres and ICU if needed.
Acute Pain
An enthusiastic and dynamic team of nursing staff run our nationally renowned acute pain service throughout the Trust lead by an anaesthetic consultant colleague. There is a well-established ward-based epidural service for orthopaedics, general surgery, urology and gynaecology with on-going developments focusing on enhanced recovery, management of acute pain in the patient with chronic pain and analgesia for fractured necks of femur. The pain team has particular expertise in the management of rib fractures and our protocols have been published and presented nationally. The pain team also provide an acupuncture service which has reduced the incidence of post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV).
Training & Teaching
In addition to service commitments, there are excellent opportunities for the appointee to become involved in anaesthetic training, module development, educational supervision and appraisal. The department has an excellent reputation for teaching and training. The department offers training modules in all the surgical specialties available at the Trust, as well as critical care medicine. All colleagues are encouraged to participate in teaching and tutorials, in addition to practical aspects of training in the operating theatres and intensive care.
The critical care unit is recognised for basic, intermediate level RCoA training and Stage 1 of the FICM training program. One of our ICU Consultants is FICE accredited and all the remaining ICU Consultants are working towards FICE accreditation.
There is an established trainee teaching programme within the department, with an afternoon of tutorials on topics relating to anaesthetics and critical care medicine. A lunchtime ICU journal club and a mortality and morbidity meeting is held once a month at the ICU Clinical Governance meeting.
Critical Care Unit
We admit around 630 patients a year, of which 35% are Level 3. Approximately 60% are emergency medical admissions, and around 15% are elective surgical patients. Our mean APACHE II score is 15.2, with a unit mortality of 12%, which is in keeping with other similar units in the ICNARC Case Mix Programme, and we have a risk-adjusted acute hospital mortality of <1 pre-COVID 19.
There are currently 5 funded Level 3 (ICU) bed spaces and 8 funded Level 2 (HDU) bed spaces. The ICU and the HDU are co-located to make a Critical Care Unit. Theatres, radiology and the brand new Urgent / Emergency Care Department are in close proximity.
Relationships with other Departments
The Department serves all the major specialties appropriate to a District General Hospital, with the exception of plastic surgery, vascular surgery, cardiac, specialised paediatric and neurosurgery.
Accommodation
Shared office accommodation and shared secretarial support will be available within the Anaesthetic Department and Critical Care Unit.
Clinical Governance
The anaesthetic department also holds regular audit meetings (up to six meetings per annum). These include combined meetings with surgical specialties, mandatory training updates as well as mortality and morbidity reviews, case presentations and discussing new developments.
We undertake a regular morbidity and mortality review to share learning within the department and more widely within the trust.
The successful candidate will also be encouraged to become participate in the governance and service development. Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) time will be available in job plans to support involvement in these activities
Permanent Staff Meetings
Anaesthetic & Critical Care permanent medical staff meetings are held bi-monthly on the day of the audit meetings.
We have a weekly departmental meeting on a Thursday Lunchtime, which is attended by all staff including trainees and representatives from theatres (e.g.) ODPs and management.

Each theatre session is 1.33 PAs or 5 hours 20 minutes, which includes 1 hour for pre-operative assessment and post-operative care. The theatre start time for the morning list is 0830 and for afternoon list is 1345. Some theatre lists may be all day lists.
Specialty doctors provide out of hours cover as part of a mixed rota made up of other SAS colleagues, ST trainees, senior clinical fellows and consultant colleagues. Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist providing scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis. The successful candidate will be required and undertake a wide range of complex analytical procedures, performing a range of manual, semi-automated and automated tests using scientific knowledge and experience to comment upon and validate results in line with ISO 15189.
Suitable candidates will require Chemistry experience and be nearing completion of their registration portfolio and ideally have experience of working out of hours.
Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.

A Ward Support Volunteer is a non-clinical role designed to support patients and help create a warm, welcoming and positive experience on the ward. - Assist with the serving and distribution of meals and refreshments in accordance with ward procedures and staff guidance

Job summary
We are pleased to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic Senior Clinical Fellow with well-rounded training to join an existing team of 12 Consultants.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work alongside the 12 Consultant Surgeons together with Specialist Registrars, Core Surgical Trainees and Foundation Trainees. The department provides a wide range of in-patient and day case procedures and provides emergency and elective general surgery services as well as subspecialty services in Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI. The department has an excellent reputation for laparoscopic surgery and performs significant numbers of laparoscopic colorectal resections, groin and ventral hernia repairs and fundoplications each year. The laparoscopic approach is routine for appendicectomy and cholecystectomy (both elective and emergency). The breast unit perform over 250 cancer resections per year with both immediate and delayed reconstructions. Complex abdominal wall reconstructions are undertaken regularly for complex/giant incisional hernia.
Acute Surgical Unit
In 2019 the Trust opened a new Acute Surgical Unit, with bespoke assessment facilities aimed at maximising our ambulatory care pathways for surgical patients. A senior surgical assessor reviews patients on presentation and integral ultrasound assessment speeds diagnosis.
It has reduced non-elective admissions and reduced length of stay. Initially aimed at General Surgery patients, work is underway to broaden the approach to other surgical specialities who could take advantage of the facilities and ambulatory pathways.

There are 14 Consultant Surgeons together with Specialist Registrars, Core Surgical Trainees and Foundation Trainees. The department provides a wide range of in-patient and day case procedures and provides emergency and elective general surgery services as well as subspecialty services in Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI. The department has an excellent reputation for laparoscopic surgery and performs significant numbers of laparoscopic colorectal resections, groin and ventral hernia repairs and fundoplications each year. The laparoscopic approach is routine for appendicectomy and cholecystectomy (both elective and emergency). The Trust has invested over £2 million to install a dual console Da Vinci Xi surgical robot in March 2026 and to train current colorectal and gynaecological surgeons. The plan is for most colorectal resection, complex endometriosis surgery and complex abdominal wall reconstructions to move towards a robotic approach during the course of 2026. The breast unit perform over 250 cancer resections per year with both immediate and delayed reconstructions. Complex abdominal wall reconstructions are undertaken regularly for complex/giant incisional hernia.

We are New Deal compliant and work in a full shift rota. The rota is compliant with the new contract and is a 1 in 9 rota. Post holders will be expected to co-operate in the introduction of new ways of working and monitoring processes with the support of the junior medical doctors.
Patients requiring major vascular procedures are transferred to the Sheffield Vascular Institute, which also provides emergency vascular cover.
The ST3+ and equivalents cover urology admissions out of hours and are expected to liaise with the consultant urologist who is on call 24/7 if there are urological problems. There is a daily (including weekends) consultant-led urology ward round.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The successful candidates will have access to all resources currently available in the Trust. This will involve Library and Knowledge Services, e-learning resources, Clinical Skills Training programmes, simulation training and other opportunities.
Induction will be provided covering both generic and specialty specific requirements. For new starters in the UK there will be a one-week programme in PGME prior to starting clinical duties to prepare the post holder for practice in the UK. This may be extended according to individual needs. Initial work in clinical areas would be supernumerary until the Clinical Supervisor agrees the doctor is ready to do on call.
The post holders will be expected to develop a portfolio showing on-going professional development and can access support from PGME to do this. An opportunity has arisen for a qualified Counsellor to work in our Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service based at Rotherham NHS Hospital. The role comprises working directly with individuals offering short-term counselling to individual staff around a concern which is impacting them with a range of presenting issues. It may also involve facilitating group sessions for staff related to psychological wellbeing.
In addition to providing short-term counselling support, the successful candidate will contribute to an innovative project focused on expanding access to culturally aware therapeutic services for NHS staff, helping to ensure psychological support is inclusive, equitable and responsive to the needs of our diverse workforce.
We are looking for an experienced counsellor who is registered with BACP and can demonstrate cultural awareness in practice. The post is fixed term, for 12 months. The post will be line managed by the Acting Lead Counsellor at Barnsley Hospital, regular clinical supervision will be provided and we will hold regular reflective practice sessions within the team to encourage engagement and support.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to:
Deliver short term counselling interventions to NHS staff for a range of presenting issues.
Contribute to the development and delivery of psychologically informed groups to promote staff wellbeing.
Provide initial assessment of clients presenting with multiple and complex issues; select appropriate therapeutic interventions, make decisions regarding referrals to specialist services and facilitate these as needed.
Undertake safety assessments/formulations and development of safety plans for individual clients.
Manage safeguarding concerns and share information to ensure safeguarding in accordance with local and national policy.
Contribute to service evaluation and audit.
Attend and contribute to team meetings.
Contribute to service development, identify areas for improvement and propose changes to service delivery and working practices.

There is joint partnership working between Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH), Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BH) and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) in a dedicated elective orthopaedic hub, with health professionals undertaking hip and knee replacement inpatient procedures alongside foot and ankle, hand and wrist, and shoulder day case surgery.
The Montagu Elective Orthopaedic Centre (MEOC) facility has two state-of-the-art theatre units, two anaesthetic rooms and a recovery suite, in addition to 12 inpatient beds.
Main duties of the job
To be part of our team the successful candidate will be an autonomous practitioner ensuring that your practice is underpinned by the four pillars of advanced clinical practice, have recent experience of caring for patients in an acute setting, have excellent leadership and clinical skills, as well as evidence of continuing professional development, have drive, ambition, passion, a flexible approach and dedicated to working in this modern, high quality environment supporting best practice for orthopaedic patients following GIRFT recommendations.
As an experienced ACP, you will provide high quality clinical care for patients presenting with a variety of orthopaedic elective surgeries, providing a comprehensive advanced clinical assessment, requesting and interpreting investigations, decision making, provision of treatment, prescribing, evaluation of care and referral to other healthcare professionals if required. The ACP will be the lead for the rapid response team for Mexborough Montagu Hospital. Whilst working autonomously the ACP will always work within a multi professional team led by a Consultant.
On appointment the successful candidates will be allocated a clinical and educational supervisor, access to eportfolio and will be supported to complete any educational or clinical training for their on-going CPD.

- In depth knowledge of the role of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, the public and all grades of multi-disciplinary staff and outside agencies in a professional manner.
- Good time management and prioritisation skills to enable concentration and working under high pressure in an unpredictable environment. Manages own workload and supports nursing and junior medical staff.
- Analytical and judgement skills in carrying out patient assessments and ability to make a diagnosis based on imaging and pathology results as well as being able to critique own practice.
- Excellent emergency patient assessment and treatment knowledge and skills in relation to invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to point of care ultrasound, ECG, catheterisation, venepuncture, cannulation, ABG and IV drug administration, including teaching and ongoing workplace based assessment of others in these skills.
- Ability to critically appraise research to identify and implement best practice. Able to design / support audit programmes relevant to advanced practice in emergency care
