Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care
We are seeking a Specialty Doctor, who together with 85 Consultant Anaesthetists, 1 Associate Specialist, 42 existing Specialty Doctors and 42 Specialty Trainees will provide a comprehensive anaesthetic service.
Main duties of the job
The positions will comprise of 10 programmed activities on average per week. These posts offer a variety of interests including, theatre work, obstetric anaesthesia, intensive care and resident on call duties. A willingness to work flexibly is essential. The Specialty Doctors are co-ordinated by a dedicated Consultant and the Trust has also appointed a Tutor to specifically support the educational and developmental needs of the Specialty Doctor group in all specialties.
Royal Derby Hospital a major oncology centre providing treatment for upper and lower GI, urological, gynaecological, breast and head and neck malignancies. We also host regional units for hand surgery and bariatrics, and have a large clinical commitment to major orthopaedics, trauma and emergency care with a helipad and state of the art imaging services. Royal Derby Hospital has a 16 bedded level 2/3 Intensive Care unit and a 16 bedded post-surgical step-down unit.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term, full time position as a Medical Laboratory Assistant / Healthcare Science Assistant, as part of the ED Opt Out Project.
You will support the Biomedical Scientists and microbiology team in providing a clinical technical service to achieve efficient and effective patient care. Working as part of a team, to carry out the receipt, booking-in, processing and testing of specimens to provide a diagnostic microbiology service. Previous experience in a diagnostic laboratory is essential.
Main duties of the job
- To work in an effective and efficient way following the appropriate Trust and directorate policies, procedures and guidelines including the departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Prepares and processes patient specimens.
- Prepares blood samples for immunoassay testing.
- Prepares specimens for PCR testing.
- Prepares urine samples for microscopy.
- Inoculates patient specimen onto culture media for incubation.
- Selects single colonies and inoculates test cards for processing through the VITEK2 identification machine.
- Perform specimen reception tasks including entering accurately patient/specimen details onto the departmental computer system maintaining a valid database.
- Maintain and support the effective use of available resources (equipment and stock) in an efficient way

Main duties of the job

- Ensure urgent test results/correspondence is brought to the immediate attention of the Consultant or team

This role is ideal for someone with an interest in healthcare science who is keen to develop skills in performingroutine diagnostic investigations. Following completion of the required training and competency assessments, you will work as anAssistant Physiologist, undertaking a range of standard diagnostic clinical measurement investigations across various sections of the department. Services are primarily delivered from QHB and RDH, with additional clinics based at our Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) and at Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital. A significant portion of the post will be based within the Cardio-respiratory Department at Queens hospital at Burton, however, some rotation to our sister sites will also be required. This is not a qualified position although you will be expected to study towards the Certificate in Electrocardiography in order to attain competency in ECG recording and basic interpretation.You must have GCSEs in English, Maths and one Science subject, grade C or above/grades 4-9 or equivalent.Previous experience of working with the general public is essential.

Job summary
We are looking for Registered Operating Department Practitioners or Nurse Theatre Practitioners to join our Orthopaedic Theatre family at the Royal Derby Hospital. Preferably with Orthopaedic experience, but not essential as training will be given.
The suite comprises of 8 operating theatres offering all aspects of orthopaedic and trauma work, including robotics and spine.
The successful candidates will become integral to the multidisciplinary team in a busy and supportive environment, and will be able to confidently assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

Main duties of the job
The role requires the individual to work within our multidisciplinary team providing high quality, individualised, perioperative patient care within the remit of Trust policies and procedures, with an opportunity to develop and extend skills across a variety of orthopaedic surgery specialities.
The post holder is expected to maintain their professional/essential development within the scope of their individual appraisal and according to service needs.
The department also facilitates a wide variety of learners and there is a desirability for the post holder to support/mentor them as appropriate.
Our Orthopaedic Theatre department covers a wide variety of exciting opportunities for a motivated, compassionate, and professional theatre practitioner to provide high quality patient care whilst working as part of our multidisciplinary team.
There is an on call, weekend and Bank Holiday commitment as part of the general emergency team.

Flexibility will paramount to this role and for the right candidates we can offer full day shifts or split shifts.

Main duties of the job

Provide a courteous and efficient reception service to all Patients attending the hospital, observing confidentiality, overcoming barriers of language and disability etc.
Make follow up appointments for outpatients using the PAS system, generating letters, and completing Outpatients Outcomes and Clinical Coding outcomes on the database as required for the Trust Data collection purposes.
Ensure the 18-week RTT (referral to treatment) end date is captured on PAS system so that the Trust meets the Government targets.
To provide a friendly, helpful, and professional reception service, duties to include cash handling and banking, receipt and distribution of incoming mail, franking and posting.

We have a new and exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals to join our Cancer Business Unit within our Oncology department as a Clinical Nurse Specialist supporting the patient pathways for metastatic and non metastatic cancers.
You will be joining an established team of dynamic CNSs and will play a key role in delivering specialist nursing care to patients throughout their cancer journey. You will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to maintain and develop a high-quality service for patients with x1 non-metastatic breast CNS and x1 metastatic skin cancers CNS.
Acting as the patient's advocate, you will ensure privacy, dignity and person-centred care at all times, while providing advice, support and clinical leadership to junior staff and learners in all aspects of delivering high-quality care.
This role will also provide specialist support, advice and education to patients and their significant others, empowering them to manage the physical, psychological and practical impacts of their diagnosis and treatment, and ensuring seamless care throughout their pathway.
Main duties of the job
Substantial nursing experience in Breast Care or/and oncology nursing at band 6/7 is preferable. You will need to be flexible, reliable and patient focused. You will work closely with the consultant team in delivering patient centred care.
There is a requirement to work between both Derby and Burton sites, however theses posts are predominately RDH (Royal Derby Hospital) based.

Job summary
The Infection Prevention and Control Team are looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic person to join the team to support the delivery of excellence in Infection Prevention and Control practice and work closely with clinical teams to audit IPC practice and develop improvement programmes. This is a fantastic opportunity for career progression and a chance to develop leadership skills. The post holder must hold a current professional registration.
The post holder will deliver specialist infection prevention & control practice across the Trust, in all of the Trustsites, in a patient centred, clinically effective way in line with Trust policies, procedures and national guidelines.

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen in Histopathology, as part of Derbyshire Pathology, for an Expert Biomedical Scientist (BMS), with proven experience in laboratory leadership who has a specialist interest in being the training lead.
Derbyshire Pathology was formed on the 1st July 2018, of the laboratories at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and Royal Derby Hospital, with Queens Hospital Burton joining in October 2021. The Histopathology Department is based on the site of Royal Derby Hospital, and operates an extended day and week shift system (please contact for details). There is an appetite for continuing laboratory transformation, and we are implementing the full digitisation of the Histopathology Service.
Derby has been at the forefront of BMS dissection since 2005, and as such, has a long established and successful in house training and competency programme, pioneering extended biomedical scientist dissection and BMS reporting.
Experience of line management and team leadership are required for this role, as you will be expected to actively manage and develop staff in your section, and to liaise with the Histology Manager and other Expert BMS's, to deliver a high quality, efficient, and unified Histology laboratory service.
Main duties of the job
Leading within Histology, therefore familiarisation, understanding and experience of UKAS standards is essential; Health & Safety requirements; NEQAS, audit and training/education experience is also required. Familiarisation of LIMS implementation is desirable.
Experience of utilising lean methodologies to drive change and improve service is desirable. Candidates should be proactive, self-motivated, and enthusiastic. Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills are essential.
- To support the Quality Assurance / Training programmes alongside the Histology Manager and Cellular Pathology Service Manager
- Supervise, train and develop laboratory staff
- Participate in other sections of the Histology service when required
- To support molecular pathology testing within histopathology
- Work with team leaders to develop staff to meet team objectives
- Delegated responsibility for the day to day management of the laboratory functions in an effective and efficient way ensuring the area works within the Standard Operating Procedures laid down by senior management

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Paediatric Nurse to work on Ward 1 at Queen's Hospital Burton.
We are seeking a motivated registered children's nurse to work within our Paediatric Ward.
We are an 8 bedded inpatient ward caring for a range of patients from 0-16 years of age. Ward 1 cares for patients with a wide range of medical, surgical and mental health needs. We also are a paediatric shared care unit for oncology patients from Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Alongside our inpatient beds we also run a surgical and medical day case 3 times a week. The day case area cares for a wide variety of patients from ENT surgery to allergy tests and regular infusions.
The post will involve a variety of shifts over a 7 days week including bank holidays, rotating between night and day shifts.
Informal visits are welcomed.
Main duties of the job
Ward 1 has a committed philosophy of Family Centred Care where parents/carers are actively encouraged to be involved in their baby/child's care with support and education from the nursing staff.
Preferably applicants should hold RSCN or RN child branch qualification alongside relevant experience.
We will support you through a wide range of in-house study days and training, we work very closely with our clinical educators to enhance learning.

Main duties of the job
- Typing and despatch of clinical correspondence relating to NHS medical patients within the quality standards and time limits asspecified.
- Effective liaison with the relevant wards and departments within the hospital and with patients and other health care providers associated with the Consultant, his/her team to ensure a prompt and effective communication system.
- Assist in the upkeep of the departmental clinical admin information and general filing correspondence.
- Training will be given to ensure your understanding of the 18-week RTT process and a knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy and an agreement to adhered to these policies according to National Trust Guidelines, Waiting list management and 18 weeks guideline
- Responsible for the regular case note maintenance and accurate filing.
- Books and arranges meetings when required.
- To provide support and cover to other areas to the Business Unit/Division and to undertake other duties as requested.
- Answer the telephone and take messages and deal with queries as required.

Job summary
Secondment Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Plastics on a years secondment/fixed term contract.
This is a rare opportunity to work within an established speciality while driving the development of innovative nurse-led services and clinical pathways, improving patient care and experience.
As a key member of the team, you will:
- Deliver nurse-led clinics (virtual and face-to-face)
- Treat and discharge patient as per protocol
- Work closely with Consultants and fellow CNS colleagues, Clinic staff and the admin team.
- Triage patients referred to ensure they are directed to the right service provider
- Perform complex dressing
- Conduct and manage dressings clinics alongside current CNS team
You will utilise and develop clinical skills including informing patients of result and discharging from clinics following strict protocols.
We are seeking someone who:
- Has a strong passion for Plastics and Dermatology care
- Demonstrates excellent clinical and communication skills
- Is confident working autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team
- Is committed to innovation, leadership, and service improvement

Main duties of the job
- Working as an independentspecialist with your own caseload
- Conducting face to face and telephone clinics including, long term follow ups
- Triage of referrals
- Continue the development of nurse led clinics within the department

- Act as a resource of specialist knowledge and information for members of the Trust multi-disciplinary team
- Training of staff within the speciality
- Participate in and contribute to service improvement
