What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.
Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Job summary
Are you a registered Pharmacy Technician looking to broaden your clinical experience or add flexible NHS work alongside your current role?
Brighton and Hove Federation is recruiting Pharmacy Technicians to join our bank and support a citywide anticoagulation monitoring service for patients prescribed warfarin.
You will work directly with patients in GP practices, community settings and, where required, patients' homes. You will carry out point-of-care INR testing, support safe monitoring under agreed protocols and work with pharmacists, prescribers and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Previous INR experience is not required. We will provide full role-specific training, competency assessment and ongoing clinical support.
This makes the role a strong opportunity for experienced Pharmacy Technicians from hospital, community, primary care or other patient-facing settings who want to develop new clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out point-of-care INR testing using approved devices in GP practices, community settings and patients' homes.
- Book, coordinate and manage appointments for anticoagulation and INR monitoring clinics.
- Give clear, approved information about warfarin, adherence, diet and lifestyle considerations, bleeding risk, follow-up arrangements and when to seek urgent help.
- Recognise and promptly escalate out-of-range results, red-flag symptoms, possible bleeding or clotting concerns, and any other clinical risk.
- Support protocol-led anticoagulation monitoring and dose management within agreed competency limits, standard operating procedures and escalation pathways.
- Work collaboratively with service pharmacists, prescribers, GP practices and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Undertake home visits in line with service protocols, risk assessments and lone-working procedures
- Support audit, reporting, data collection, service evaluation and quality improvement.
- Report incidents, near misses, equipment failures and safety concerns in line with organisational policy.
- Work within relevant national guidance, local anticoagulation protocols, professional standards and the limits of your role and competence.
- Maintain competence in INR testing and complete all required training and updates.
- Record INR results and relevant clinical information accurately in INRStar and the patient's clinical record.
About us
Brighton and Hove GP Federation is a practice owned organisation working at city scale to strengthen general practice and support a sustainable local health system. It enables GP practices to collaborate where this adds value, while remaining independent, locally accountable and clinically led.
The Federation delivers services and shared infrastructure at scale, reducing duplication and managing shared operational and financial risk. By coordinating delivery and investment, it supports practices to focus on patient care while addressing system pressures collectively. It works closely with member practices, PCNs, the Integrated Care Board and partners to develop practical, longterm solutions aligned with NHS values.
Any surplus generated is reinvested locally to support the workforce, strengthen primary care and build resilience, without private profit extraction. Membership provides access to shared services, collective problem solving and a stronger voice within the wider system.
The Federations work is guided by collaboration, sustainability, quality, equity and innovation, with the sole purpose of helping general practice thrive now and in the future.
