- Contributing to the performance management of teams and creating a positive culture in which the team can learn from mistakes and is enthusiastic to improve
- Deputising for the team leader as required ensuring there is no fall in performance in their absence. This may include managing the team and coordinating shifts.
- Providing supervision and annual appraisals to individuals and giving constructive, regular feedback which helps those individuals reflect on their work, understand their objectives

We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together and in partnership with other teams and services to provide seamless care. Childrens Community Nurses work as part of a team and you will contribute to the success of the team by being an effective role model and supervising Health Care Support Worker's, students, or other Band 5 nurses, to ensure they are working to the standards that the people using our services deserve.
Key Responsibilities
Community Childrens nurses contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
- Using their clinical judgment and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible
- Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalating concerns when necessary
- Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services
- Being open and transparent about their own practice
- Supervising the work of others
- Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made
- Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement
- Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records
- Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements.
The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses, including Community Childrens nurses, are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
Clinical Outcomes
Community Childrens nurses often work with people who have complex needs and contribute to the effectiveness of services by:
- Being confident, autonomous practitioners who take responsibility for the care they give to patients but also take responsibility for overseeing the work of others in the team including less experienced nurses and staff without a professional qualification
- Providing skilled, evidence based nursing care which adheres to agreed policies and procedures
- Working with patients and families in all stages of the care planning process including assessing risks and needs
- Acting as patient advocates in the multi-disciplinary team and overseeing the work of others to ensure that they are also responding to the needs of patients and providing clinically effective care
- Working as autonomous practitioners and taking responsibility for the care they give to patients but also working as team members
Contributing to creating and maintaining high-performing teams by:
- Communicating well with all members of the team
- Understanding their role in the team and how they help the team achieve its objectives
- Reflecting on their own practice regularly and encouraging the whole team to reflect on their practices in handovers and team meetings
- Encouraging the team to learn from adverse events or respond to data analysis from audits or benchmarking exercises and implement sustainable initiatives which improve clinical outcomes
Patient Experience
Community Childrens nurses contribute to the people using our services feeling respected and empowered to make decisions about their health and wellbeing by:
- Working in partnership with patients and their families and carers
- Gaining consent and, as far as possible, involving people in all decision making
- Signposting patients and carers to the courses provided by the Recovery and Wellbeing College or services provided by the local authority or voluntary sector
- Reassuring people by being professional, responsive, knowledgeable and confident
- Demonstrating clinical leadership and challenging any poor behaviour to patients, families, or other staff members and creating a positive, inclusive culture in which everyone is treated with kindness and respect and the trusts values are embedded in all practice
- Responding to complaints or concerns effectively and quickly in line with the Trust policy
Supporting yourself and others
All services and teams in the Trust should be able to demonstrate that they are meeting the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards of care. Community Childrens nurses are expected to be Clinical Leaders and play an active role in ensuring that the team understands the CQC standards and what individual team members do to help achieve those standards by:
- Taking a lead role in gathering and recording evidence which demonstrates that CQC and locally agreed standards are being met: assessing the performance of the whole team by using audit and benchmarking exercises and often contribute to the implementation of quality improvement initiatives
- Participating constructively in their own supervision and annual appraisal processes
- Use continuing professional development funds to develop a relevant clinical specialism, gain sign-off mentorship skills, or undertake accredited leadership or management modules.

This is a newly established post for a full or part time Consultant Rheumatologist based at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to expand our small but highly effective rheumatology medical team of three consultants and one very experienced associate specialist.
This opportunity is unlikely to arise again for many years!

Job summary
The NHS Transforming People Services (TPS) programme sits at the heart of delivering the NHS 10 Year Health Plan -- creating a workforce that is empowered, flexible and digitally enabled to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities. The ambition contained within the 10 Year Health Plan is to deliver a Digital 1st Strategy which will enable staff to access People services anytime and anyplace, to book annual leave, or onboard to a new organisation digitally, with virtual assistants to improve both staff and manager experience. This ambition will be delivered through the Transforming people Services Programme.
Being part of this programme is more than a transformation role; it is an opportunity to redefine how people services are delivered across the NHS and directly influence the experience of one of the largest workforces in the world.
As a Senior People Services Transformation Lead for People Managers, you will join one of the NHS's most ambitious and high-profile transformation programmes, working at the centre of a nationally significant agenda to modernise people services for the future. You will help design and deliver innovative, user-centric and digitally enabled people manager services that improve staff experience, enable people professionals to focus on matters to the business whilst achieving increased operational efficiency and productivity, support better outcomes for staff, patients and communities across the country.
Main duties of the job
You will play a key role in bringing together operational expertise, policy, service design and digital capability to redesign how people services are experienced and delivered across the NHS.
We are looking for ambitious, collaborative and delivery-focused service design experts who thrive in complexity and are passionate about improving public services. The ideal candidate will bring:
Leadership leading complex transformation, service improvement or workforce redesign programmes within large or complex organisations
Strong understanding of HR, workforce or people services, with experience designing user-centred and digitally enabled service models
Experience of bringing together experts and customers to develop a service or function
Working within the Service Design Team, you will collaborate with specialists and customers from across the NHS to shape future operating models and redesign how people services work at scale. This is a rare opportunity to influence strategic decisions, lead meaningful change and see the direct impact of your work across the health system.
Most importantly, you will be part of a team delivering change that improves the experience of the NHS workforce and supporting better outcomes for patients and communities nationwide.
About us
NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.
Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms -- enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.
In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.
If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR).This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.
Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.

However, we are seeing an increasing over-reliance of AI tools, which can negatively affect your application as it reduces a candidates individuality, and makes it difficult for us to gain a clear and authentic understanding of your experience, skills, and in turn your suitability for the role.
All submissions must be truthful and if you do use AI, it should only be used to enhance your application and not create your supporting statement in its entirety. Your supporting statement should be in your own words and must accurately reflect your personal experience and achievements. Where we have concerns that AI has been used to generate content that misrepresents your experience and suitability for the role, we may withdraw your application.
