Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Capital Team at our main hospital site for a fixed-term Project Manager (Capital) position until 31 March 2028, supporting the delivery of a significant portfolio of RAAC-related projects.
This role is vital in shaping the environments where healthcare is delivered. As a Project Manager, you will play a key role in creating spaces that are safe, modern and supportive for patients, staff and visitors alike.
Every project you deliver, whether it is the refurbishment of a ward, the upgrade of critical infrastructure systems, or the creation of new clinical facilities, will have a direct and lasting impact on the experience of those who use our hospital services.
We are looking for an individual who thrives on bringing structure and clarity to complex projects, enjoys working collaboratively with multidisciplinary and clinical teams, and is motivated by delivering tangible outcomes that make a real difference. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a high-profile programme of work that will support the continued delivery of safe and effective patient care across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for managing allocated capital projects and supporting the successful delivery of the Trust's RAAC Programme. This will involve planning, coordinating and overseeing projects from inception through to completion, ensuring agreed objectives, timescales and budgets are achieved.
Working closely with directly employed staff, contractors, consultants and other specialist service providers, the Project Manager will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with statutory, regulatory and Trust requirements.

In periods where the post holder is not actively engaged in capital project delivery, they will support the Operational Lead for RAAC in the maintenance, development and improvement of the Trust estate. This will include contributing to initiatives that ensure the hospital environment remains safe, compliant and fit for purpose, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.
The role requires close collaboration with clinical, operational and technical stakeholders, balancing competing priorities while ensuring that project outcomes support the Trust's strategic objectives and enhance the experience of patients, staff and visitors.
About us
There's never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We're working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital due to open in 2031/32 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we've ever undertaken.
Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.
At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.
We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. This is a varied, hands-on supervisory role at the heart of the practice. You will lead our reception and administration teams, coordinate clinical and non-clinical rotas, support HR processes and ensure that important operational systems and workflows run effectively.
The role would suit someone who enjoys leading people, solving problems, improving processes and keeping a busy organisation running smoothly. Previous NHS or general practice experience would be helpful, but strong supervisory and operational experience from another sector would also be welcomed.
Main duties of the job
- Lead and support the reception and administration teams, including staff training and day-to-day supervision.
- Coordinate clinical and non-clinical rotas, ensuring appropriate staffing and cover.
- Oversee reception and administrative processes, including appointment booking and workflow management.
- Manage the practice telephone system and help ensure effective patient access.
- Authorise staff leave and undertake appraisals for appropriate non-clinical staff.
- Support day-to-day HR administration and staff management.
- Maintain and oversee key practice operational information, including the Practice Index and SystmOne home screen.
- Coordinate Significant Event Reviews, ensuring actions are recorded and followed through.
- Ensure relevant claims are actioned accurately and promptly.
- Oversee and improve administrative workflows, including discharge reviews, GPAD and BP filing.
- Coordinate the administrative aspects of the QOF recall process, ensuring systems are effective and deadlines are met.
- Work closely with the senior management and clinical teams to identify problems and continually improve the way the practice operates.
This is an opportunity to take on a genuinely influential operational role within a busy GP practice. Rather than simply administering established processes, we want someone who will take ownership, improve how things work and help develop our reception and administration teams.
About us
We are a friendly, busy, and innovative GMS practice caring for approximately 12,000 patients in north-east Essex, where work-life balance is more than just a buzzword. Our team includes two supportive GP partners, 7 salaried GPs, an excellent nursing team with specialist skills in diabetes, asthma and COPD, 4 advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs), practice nurses, HCAs, clinical pharmacists, and a dedicated administrative and reception team working together to provide high-quality patient care. We pride ourselves on being relaxed, family-friendly, and supportive, with flexible working patterns and a strong team ethos. As a training practice for medical and nursing students, we are committed to learning, development, and continuous improvement. We use ANIMA total triage and embrace new ways of working while maintaining the traditional values of family medicine and patient-centred care. What we offer:
- Competitive salary dependent on experience
- NHS Pension Scheme
- A family-friendly environment
- Professional development and training
- Supportive GP Partners
- A genuine opportunity to influence the future direction of a highly regarded practice
