Job summary
Working as part of our handyperson team, you will deliver kind and friendly person-centred services to diverse communities across east London and Essex. You will work with people referred by our community partners, our hospital discharge teams, and wider AUKEL colleagues to help older people remain safe in their homes.
Carry out home energy checks and support by fitting simple energy-efficiency measures in their homes. These include putting up curtain poles and thermal curtains, installing radiator reflector panels, draught-proofing, fitting LED light bulbs and distributing timer switches etc.
Carry out home repairs and maintenance work for older people and/or their carers across East London.
Main duties of the job
Fitting installations to instructions from Social Workers and or Occupational Therapists e.g.,
key safes
fitting grab rails
banister rails
raised toilet seats
telephone extensions
fixing commodes to the floor
fixing down loose floor covering
Installation of security devices and smoke alarms.
Relocation of furniture set-up of micro-environments to aid hospital discharge.
Draft proofing
Delivery of equipment as required e.g. emergency heaters, walking frames etc.
Carry out home safety checks advising on crime safety devices and adaptations and fitting as required.
Ensure that the service users home is left clean and tidy on completion of the work and be responsible for the safe and proper removal of waste and debris.
Carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrical work
Working closely with and supporting AUKEL volunteers.

Job summary

Manage the Energy Dr services provided in Havering which we deliver in partnership with Age UK Redbridge, Barking and Havering, overseeing the rota and ordering equipment.
You will also support the Head of Hospital and Home in the development of a paid-for handyperson which is currently in planning.
Main duties of the job
Manage the Handyperson team on a day-to-day basis and be the first point of call for issues as they arise.
Develop your staff team which includes: chairing team meetings, providing supervision, appraisals, planning of continued professional development opportunities and reviewing training needs.
Support the team to deliver service required by the hospital teams safely such as the creation of microenvironments or moving of furniture etc.
Ensure the team are taking care of cleaning of tools and equipment and checking they are in good working order meeting health & safety requirements.
Take responsibility for fleet vehicles reporting any concerns to the Operations Manager and Head of Service. E.g. Daily & weekly checks and the purchase of enhancements and minor repairs.
Provide on the job opportunities for volunteers, apprentices, return to work placements to undertake basic handyperson skills.
Responsibility for stock checks.
Proactively looking for efficiency opportunities and working with the team to test and trial new ways of working.
Work with the communications team and Head
At times, carry out repairs and maintenance work for AUKEL offices and outreach centre.
