The GI team is part of the rota providing 24-hour emergency GI surgical care at Southmead Hospital. The postholder will manage major trauma cases when doing emergency general surgery on-call.
When on call, the on-call consultant is responsible for reviewing patients in same day emergency care (SDEC) and acute admissions from 1pm. Consultants do an evening ward round (4-5pm) on the day they are on call and a post take ward round at 08:00 the following day. On the day after on call, the consultant is responsible for the CEPOD list. The post holder will have no elective commitments when on-call. The emergency take has evolved over time in both volume and complexity. GI surgery provides a subspecialist upper and lower GI take with patient transfer between teams. We have a co-located medical and surgical SDEC unit. The surgical SDEC unit includes other surgical specialties such as urology and neurosurgery.
Each consultant will do regular week-day on-call with average 1 in 8 frequency and weekend on-call of 1 in 12. These frequencies are subject to changes with new appointments. On-call day to include SDEC and the CEPOD list on the following day. This model will be reviewed at 6-12 months.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician with advanced expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and management of complex knee conditions. Working closely with Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeons, you will act as a first point of contact for patients within elective orthopaedic pathways, independently managing patients through assessment, investigation, treatment, referral for surgery and discharge as appropriate.
The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills, detailed knowledge of diagnostic investigations and imaging, and the ability to manage complex clinical presentations autonomously within agreed governance frameworks. The post holder is a member of the Psychology Services department at Southmead Hospital, located within both the weight management and bariatric surgery teams.

Responsibilities include assessments of people referred to the service and the provision of psychological interventions in both group and one-to-one format. -
To deliver psychologically informed interventions in a 1-1 and group format to people living at higher weights.
-
To convey sensitive and complicated information in both verbal and written formats as appropriate, sometimes in an atmosphere of uncertainty and/or conflict involving patients, their relatives, and fellow professionals.
-
To work collaboratively and effectively alongside multidisciplinary colleagues and provide input to teams in the surgical care directorates, regarding outpatients and also some limited ward-based work. This may include offering support to colleagues as well as supervision to staff working within the service (e.g. other Allied Health Professionals, Assistant or Trainee Psychologists).
