Make this your golden opportunity for an interesting and rewarding career in the NHS.
Main duties of the job
The University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the largest Hospital Trusts in the country and treated over a million patients last year. It is based on three hospital sites and employs over 10,000 staff.
UHL has one of the largest Imaging departments in the NHS; a medical specialty that encapsulates a wide variety of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology practices capable of diagnosis and treatment of a large array of conditions.
The Imaging Services covers a wide variety of clinical departments; sub-specialties who focus on specific referring specialisms e.g. Musculoskeletal, Paediatric, Vascular, Neurology, Head and Neck, Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine, Accident and Emergency, Oncology, Genitourinary and General Surgery.
Each of these sub-specialties covers a wide range of imaging modalities from Fluoroscopy and Plain film Radiography to Ultrasound, CT, and MRI. We employ over 60 Consultant Radiologists, 30 junior Doctors, 190 Radiographers, 40 Sonographers, over 160 Clinical and admin support; and image over 1650 patients a day/600,000 a year. Diagnostic Imaging is currently undergoing great change, with Hospitals becoming more and more reliant on the use of digital imaging techniques.
About us
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

We are a training practice with a strong focus on education and development, and look after medical undergraduates from Oxford University, PCN Learning Environment nurses, paramedics and pharmacists, and Specialist Trainee GPs. We invest in our team and want to create opportunities for career progression through routes such as portfolio working and giving autonomy to take the lead and use initiative.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone to take on the role of a salaried GP, and support the practice training environment.
This involves debriefing GP Trainees, and as part of the PCN Learning Environment, some of the Allied Health Professionals including paramedics and pharmacist students, amongst others.
We encourage portfolio working amongst our staff, and a number of them hold roles in healthcare outside of the practice, which is supported by all who work in the practice. If this is something that you would like to do, let us know when applying for the position, which you can do by emailing our Practice Manager, Ivan, [email protected],marked for his attention.
About us
Bartlemas Surgery runs out of East Oxford Health Centre, a purpose-built facility for the provision of Primary Care.
We are the Lead Practice in the PCN, and many of the services for the PCN run out of the premises, including the physio and paramedic.
Some comments from our current GPs about what its like to work with us:
I have worked here for over 10 years. It is a very friendly, supportive team and I have always felt that my input and ideas are welcomed. We meet every day for coffee and can use this time to get advice from one another about patient care or just enjoy a catch up over coffee and cake. - Vic
I joined the Bartlemas team as a trainee over 5 years ago - everyone is open and supportive, so you never feel that you're on your own. Daily team coffee meetings are a real highlight, not to mention the delicious cakes and treats in the practice Bake-off competition! - Alastair
