The role is at the centre of a fast-paced clinical environment where strong communication, organisation and teamwork have a direct impact on patient care and the smooth running of the department. As the role operates across multiple sites and 24/7, the role offers variety, exposure to different situations and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
The role is suitable for someone who enjoys helping people, working as part of a supportive team and thriving in a busy environment, the urgent care reception team can be both rewarding and fulfilling. Good computer literacy and confidence using administration systems are valuable, particularly when working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
Teamwork is another essential quality. The successful candidate should be able to work closely with medical, nursing and administrative colleagues while also managing their own workload effectively. Reliability, flexibility and a willingness to work a range of shifts across both hospital sites are important due to the 24-hour nature of the service.
Most importantly, the candidate should bring a caring and patient-focused attitude. Emergency Departments can be stressful for patients and families, so having empathy, professionalism and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations would make a positive contribution to the team and overall patient experience.
