Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our expanding patient centred and supportive Gastroenterology department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting time to join us with opportunity to support inpatient and outpatient transformation as part of a blended workforce as we develop our Luminal and Liver services and further establish novel inpatient and outpatient pathways.
Our Gastroenterology and Liver service is one of the busiest in the UK - we offer a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for all gastroenterological conditions. Our JAG accredited, performance driven and patient centred Endoscopy unit delivers approximately 15,000 procedures per annum and is a spoke centre for the North-West Endoscopy training academy and is the admin hub for Bowel cancer screening within the Lancashire region.
This post will provide the successful candidate with excellent experience and training in Gastroenterology. Our thriving Gastroenterology unit has a high reputation for good quality Gastroenterology and Endoscopy training and the experience gained through this post has in the past supported trainees to obtain a National Training Number and pursue a career in Gastroenterology. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals is an NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre and involvement in Gastroenterology related audit, quality improvement projects and research would be fully supported.
Main duties of the job
This post will support the ongoing provision of a timely, quality and safe specialist Gastroenterology and Liver service. The successful candidate will support Inpatient and Outpatient Gastroenterology transformation and Gastroenterology and Endoscopy recovery and restoration. Endoscopy training will be supported during the Luminal and Endoscopy rotations. The post will include a commitment to Gastroenterology on-call enhancing the overall training experience whilst supporting delivery of a 7-day Gastroenterology in-reach service and Gastroenterology Speciality reviews and ward cover on a rotational basis.
Gastroenterology and Endoscopy administrative duties within the Department will also be undertaken regularly.
The template for Consultant outpatient clinics is based as a minimum on the RCP template. A standard clinic comprises 12 patients and includes a combination of new, fast track and follow-up patients with each patient allocated 15-20 minutes. This template will depending on the experience of the trainee increase by up to 50% when a Gastroenterology Registrar has been allocated to clinic.
Endoscopy Training lists comprise 6-8 units and are adjusted to trainee requirements. The department has a well established record in supporting Endoscopy training and all trainers have undertaken train the trainers courses. We have a dedicated Endoscopy training lead and Endoscopy trainee meetings are undertaken monthly to support and optimise the Endoscopy training experience.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The first six months in post will be focused on becoming independent at the more basic cath lab procedures and CRM device follow-up.
The second six months will concentrate on more advanced CRM device follow-up and cath lab procedures with a view to joining the on-call service by the end of the first year in post.
All physiologists working within EP/CRM are actively encouraged and assisted to undertake BHRS and/or IBHRE exams and are fully supported with their PDP. We are extensively involved in device trials and research, including becoming the first UK centre to implant the leadless Empower pacemaker in 2022.
CRM device follow-up at UHS incorporates all aspects of post implant care including onsite and remote follow-up of adult and paediatric/ACHD patients. Devices followed-up range from simple ILRs through to CRT-Ds and subcutaneous ICDs. We have the largest CIED remote follow-up population in the UK.
Device implants in the cath lab include ILRs; pacemakers (including leadless and conduction system); ICDs (transvenous and extravascular); CRT-P/Ds (CS and endocardial LV leads); complex paediatric/ACHD implants and pulmonary artery monitors. The CRM physiologists also support the regional lead extraction service and surgical epicardial device implants.
We have 5 dedicated cardiac catheter laboratories (with two specialising in CRM). There are five Consultant Electrophysiologists (plus two visiting Consultants from other Trusts) and four Heart Failure Consultants, all of whom implant complex devices. As such, the CIED patient population is set to continue expanding rapidly over the next few years.
Other cath lab procedures at UHS include all aspects of coronary diagnostic and interventional procedures (including 24/7 primary angioplasty), in addition to other emergency procedures such as temporary pacing and pericardiocentisis. We also perform an extensive range of diagnostic EP studies and ablations; heart failure diagnostics and structural intervention including TAVI, MVR, and TVR. We are very fortunate to be one of only a few select centres in the UK to perform paediatric diagnostic and interventional procedures, in addition to ACHD patients.
The post will be particularly suited to PTP students that have enjoyed their cath lab and CRM time on placement and would like to focus on these areas of cardiac physiology post qualification with a view to progressing quickly.
Part-time applicants are welcomed and will be looked at on an individual basis.
For an overview of the position, please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification document. This includes a detailed breakdown of the key responsibilities, role expectations, and the qualifications we are looking for

Job summary
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
Main duties of the job
We are excited to offer 14.5 hrs per week for the role of public health midwife within University Hospital Southampton (UHS). Working with our current public health midwife, we are looking for a motivated, forward-thinking midwife with a passion for public health and improving outcomes for women, birthing people, babies, and families.
You will need to demonstrate initiative, innovation, and the ability to drive improvement across maternity public health priorities, working proactively with colleagues and partners to effect meaningful and sustainable change.
The public health remit within maternity services is broad and continually evolving, and this role is pivotal in leading, coordinating, and embedding key public health priorities across the maternity pathway.
You will play a crucial role in improving outcomes for women, birthing people, babies, and families, with a particular focus on reducing health inequalities and supporting our most vulnerable populations.
You will work closely with a wide range of key stakeholders, including multidisciplinary maternity teams and local and regional public health teams, to ensure national and local public health priorities are translated into high-quality, evidence-based practice.
This collaborative approach will support prevention, early intervention, and personalised care, helping to deliver equitable and inclusive maternity services.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.
We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
At UHS we're committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.
At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We're committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.
