Job Purpose

As an SLT you will be working directly with a specialist caseload of patients with complex needs to assess their speech, language and cognitive communication needs as well as eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) needs, including specialist input into tracheostomy management, prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDOC), and Nil by Mouth (NBM) pathways.

Working as an integral member of the multidiscipl inary team (MDT), the post holder will deliver input in line with the Cygnet SLT pathway for Neurological Complex Care and act as the lead for Speech and Language Therapy within the service, supporting rehabilitation, risk management, safety, wellbeing and quality of life through evidence-based assessment and intervention.

The role will contribute to the development of person-centred care pathways, provide specialist advice and consultation, support staff training and competency development, and lead on the implementation of interventions that optimise communication, swallowing function, participation and overall clinical outcomes for service users with highly complex neurological and rehabilitation needs.

You will be part of a company-wide SLT service and as such will have the opportunity to participate in large-scale projects. You will receive high-quality supervision and be supported with CPD.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

• A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists)

• Competency to independently assess and manage EDS needs (essential)

• Experience in the field of acquired brain injury, neuroprogressive conditions, spinal injuries, evidenced by high level of clinical SLT knowledge.

Cygnet has 8 neuropsychiatry services across the country, each of which has at least one qualified psychologist/neuropsychologist on site.

Psychologists at these sites form the national neuropsychology team. The national team has monthly governance meetings to discuss best practice guidelines, support standardised practice and share clinical cases. There is a consultant neuropsychologist already in post within the national neuropsychology team. The national neuropsychology team have a variety of training in skills in areas such as forensic psychology, trauma therapy and EMDR, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Your role will be to:

Sandford Ward is our female acute service, providing a safe and stabilising environment for women who may require an emergency admission or who are in crisis.

Service users on Sandford Ward have support from the full multi-disciplinary team (MDT) with a range of interventions available. We are looking for someone who is...

• Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
• Experienced in General Psychiatry and mental health diagnosis
• Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Knowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practice
• An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
• A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
• Committed to continued professional development
• Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent

Our Portfolio Pathway

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level and youll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.

Youll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development and youll receive support with MRCPsych exams.

You'll be working42hours a week (Days, Nights and Weekends), making a positive difference to the lives of the people in our care at Cygnet Kenney House.

Requirements of 6 months minimum Mental Health experience for this role

Cygnet Kenney House is our new hospital for women, located in Oldham. The services provide a safe and secure care pathway for women with mental health needs.

We have collaborated with the NHS to develop services to support women from the North West to be treated closer to home. There are three wards at Cygnet Kenney House; Billington Ward, a 12 bed specialist Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Baldock Ward, a 16 bed Acute service and Harben Ward, a 16 bed mental health rehabilitation and recovery service.
