Directorate Manager - Cancer Services
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Directorate Manager - Cancer Services to join the Surgery and Anaesthetics Division at ELHT. This key leadership role will drive the delivery of high-quality cancer services, ensuring compliance with national cancer standards, effective governance, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes and experience.
Working alongside the Clinical Director for Cancer Services and Lead Cancer Nurse/Matron, the post holder will form part of the Cancer Leadership Triumvirate, providing strategic and operational leadership across Cancer Services.
The successful candidate will lead on cancer performance, pathway delivery, workforce, finance, governance and implementation of the Trust Cancer Action Plan, working closely with clinical teams and system partners to improve pathways and reduce delays.
We are seeking an inspirational leader with a proven track record of operational management, service improvement and delivering performance within a complex healthcare environment. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and people management skills are essential, alongside the ability to influence, collaborate and lead change across organisational boundaries.
Main duties of the job
The Cancer Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for Cancer Services, ensuring delivery of national cancer standards, effective pathway management, robust governance and continuous improvement in patient outcomes and experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading cancer performance, pathway delivery and achievement of national cancer waiting time standards.
- Working with the Clinical Director and Lead Cancer Nurse/Matron as part of the Cancer Leadership Triumvirate to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.
- Providing leadership and line management across Cancer Services, supporting staff development and high performance.
- Leading service improvement, transformation and delivery of the Trust Cancer Action Plan.
- Ensuring effective governance, quality assurance, performance reporting and risk management arrangements are in place.
- Developing productive relationships with clinical teams, the Cancer Alliance and wider system partners to improve cancer pathways and patient outcomes.
The post holder will uphold Trust values and the NHS Code of Conduct for Managers, promoting collaborative working to enhance the quality, efficiency and sustainability of cancer services.

Your base for the role will predominantly be atBurnley General Hospital, however cross site working will be an expectation, as the service need occurs.
Main duties of the job
We have 11 theatres at the Royal Blackburn site and 17 at Burnley General and together we carry out a wide range of both elective andemergency surgery through many specialities including: Gynaecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, general surgery, vascular, colorectal, HPB,Urology, orthopaedics, trauma, ENT, maxillofacial including Robotic assisted Surgery, and a 24 hour emergency service on both sites.

ELHT already has the largest and most comprehensive programme of robot assisted surgery in the northwest, with the region's leading surgeons removing head and neck, urological and colorectal cancers at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.
A second robot has been installed at Burnley General Teaching Hospital allowing surgeons to perform robot assisted surgery for gynaecological/Urological cancers.
The extra capacity will also allow ELHT to perform more robot assisted surgery which will eventually include Hepato-biliary cancers.

Main duties of the job
The Podiatry Service works very closely with primary and secondary care and social care and works with a wide range of health care professionals including Consultants, GPs, Social Services, District Nurses, Treatment Room staff, Nursing Staff.
The Podiatry Service undertakes primarily high risk clinical work including wound care, nail surgery, biomechanics, and emergency clinics. The Podiatry Service does not provide a social nail cutting service.
Responsibilities would also include supporting and mentoring more junior members of staff and participating in wider service development.
You should be aware of professional and national guidelines, be up to date with current best practice and be able to demonstrate your interest in continued professional development and clinical audit. Applicants must be able to demonstrate evidence of recent learning and examples of continued professional and clinical development.
You will be an enthusiastic, motivated, conscientious and flexible team player is being sought with good clinical, communication and organisational skills.

About us
You will receive excellent training and development opportunities and receive support from Clinical Specialist Podiatrists and your locality Team Leader and will be part of a wider East Lancashire Hospitals Podiatry Team. You will receive regular clinical supervision and have an annual PDR from your designated mentor. You will also take part in the clinical supervision of junior staff within the Podiatry Service.
The successful applicant will have a corporate and local departmental induction with a dedicated mentor and will have a 6 month Preceptorship period during which they will complete a competency framework.
The Podiatry service offers a comprehensive programme of supervision and clinical training opportunities and has a proactive approach to service development activities, in line with the trusts, divisional and service level objectives. Staff would be supported and encouraged to work closely together in order to deliver a holistic approach to patient care, following the six key elements of Care, Compassion, Courage, Competence, Communicating effectively and Commitment.

Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of a NHS Locum Consultant in Cardiology, for a 12-month fixed term contract, with progession to a permanent Consultant post once an RCP panel can be arranged.
The post will consist of 10 PAs to deliver independent cardiology services to inpatients and outpatients. The 10 PAs will be flexible but indicatively will consist of 8 to 8.5 direct clinical care (DCC) sessions and 2 to 1.5 supporting professional activities (SPA) sessions per week.
The majority of the appointee's time will be spent on clinical duties. In addition, the appointee will be expected to take part in the formal teaching and ongoing audit programmes within the directorate as well as a full range of management duties commensurate with this role.
They will be based on the acute hospital site but will be part of a wider team supporting the care of our patients in the community both in intermediate care beds and with primary care colleagues. The post holder will be expected to take part in a Cardiologist Consultant on-call rota.

About us
The Cardiology Department is a part of the Medical Division which provides a full range of services to all adult patients. Dr Ravi Singh is the Clinical Director, Mrs Kathryn Thomson is the Directorate Manager (Interim) and Mr Mustafa Logde is the Deputy Directorate Manager.
We are a nationally recognised department having featured in a video made for the Royal College of Physicians Annual Conference in 2017. Our department was highlighted as one of the high performing non-surgical cardiac centres in the UK. We are one of the largest non-surgical PCI centres in the UK, a recognised centre of expertise in highly complex PCI (a live case was streamed from our cath lab during ACI 2019), the only non-tertiary centre in Lancashire offering Cardiac MRI, highest volume provider of echo services in the north west and a high volume cardiac device implantation centre. We provide the entire range of cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic services except for invasive electrophysiology.
Our inpatient and outpatient services are amongst the busiest in the UK but we are well staffed with highly competent multi-disciplinary personnel who ensure that we consistently deliver on the various targets (6 week diagnostic, 18 weeks therapeutic etc).

Job summary
We have a vacancy arise for a part-time Consultant post in Cellular Pathology based on 4 session per week. This post will be based be based at Royal Preston Hospital and is a permanent post.
The working week will be flexible over a - Monday - Friday between 9.00 - 17:00
The sessions are worked flexibly according to the demands of the service. This would be 16 working hours per week (Monday to Friday), which could be worked flexibly between 8am and 6pm according to service demands and agreement with Head of Department.
There will be no expectation of providing on call for this post.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join our team of consultants and will be required to provide a comprehensive histopathology service. You would not be required to report neuropathology cases.
You will also be required to develop specialist interests to complement the existing specialist Cancer services.

You will be expected to co-operate with other members of the Pathology Directorate to ensure effective administrative arrangements are made in the laboratory, which will include: -
- Recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff, BMSs and secretarial staff having dealings with the histopathology department.
- The arrangement of rosters of staff, the allocation of duties to them and their instruction in necessary organisational matters.
- Co-ordination with staff in other professional disciplines and health care workers outside the hospital.
- Attendance at Board meetings and other committees when pathology issues are being discussed and to participate in resource management.
- Continuing management responsibility by agreement with other consultants in the Cellular Pathology Department, specifically for the service in his/her charge and for administrative duties associated with these services and the proper functioning of the department, though he/she may delegate certain responsibilities to the senior staff within the department.

We seek an enthusiastic and self motivated person to join our forward thinking team. The post holder is expected to provide predominantly Otology services and to lead on the development of the Otology service.
We are looking for a team player with an enthusiasm for teaching and training to join the team of Consultants in the Ear Nose and Throat Department of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The post is to start immediately for the successful candidate.The postholder will be part of the on-call consultant rota, which is 1:5 non resident and supported by both middle grade and junior on call tiers who undertake the 1st and 2nd on call management of emergency ENT patients.
The surgeon will help to further expand our elective surgical services at Burnley General Hospital whilst also contributing to managing complex patients at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
We are a highly motivated and cohesive team dedicated to providing an excellent service for our patients. The programme of support for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and experience.The successful candidate will be appointed on the new consultant contract which will consist of 10. Programmed Activities (PA's). This will consist of 8.5 PA's for Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 PA's for supporting professional activities.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a team of 6 consultants, mainly based at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital but with some sessions at the outpatient department at St Peter's Health Centre in Burnley and elective theatre suite at Burnley General Teaching Hospital. On call duties will be at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
We have a strong emphasis on training and have a strong commitment to support, mentorship and development of all of our staff and have regular multidisciplinary meetings.
The candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team approach alongside medical staff, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals. Clinical research, quality improvement and service development are actively encouraged.
The post holder will hold regular independent outpatient clinics and will be responsible for formalising patient care pathways and responsibility for pre, post and perioperative care of patients undergoing surgery as well as provision of care for the in-patients.
This involves care of adult and paediatric patients.
The department is supported by the following : 1 Associate Specialist, 2 Specialty Drs, 1 ST3+ trainees and 2 MCH Trainee, 1 CT, 1 JCF, 1 FY2 trainee, 1 GPST and 1 FY1 trainee. With further support from 1 ACP and 1 Specialist Nurse.

We are seeking to appoint a full time, substantive Consultant with an interest in Lower Limb surgery to work within the directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job
We expect this person to help deliver and network the Orthopaedic service within Lancashire. This includes:
- Undertaking elective and fracture outpatient clinic
- Elective and trauma operating sessions
- Ward round duties and associated administration
On call duties are 1:8 week of on call shared with a colleague alternating days. All other weeks are based on elective activity and an occasional trauma list. The successful applicant will complement the team of established consultants and wider MDT within the directorate.

Operating across 7 days, we are a dynamic, multidisciplinary team delivering highly specialist palliative care advice, support and monitoring to patients, their families and staff across the acute and community settings. This is a very fast paced, rewarding and demanding role caring, for people and their families who require Specialist palliative Care services. You will be working in a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Consultants in Palliative Medicine, Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Specialist Palliative care team and Lead Nurse for Specialist Palliative Care across the trust.
You will play an active role, together with the existing members of the Specialist Palliative Care Team, in advancing high quality specialist palliative care services and promoting excellence in end of life care across ELHT. In return, you'll be supported by an expert team in an environment where training and development opportunities are actively encouraged in order to meet the clinical needs of the role.
Main duties of the job
Provide evidence based specialist palliative care, advice and support to patients with cancer or other life limiting illness, their families and carers.
Manage a case load of patients with specialist palliative care needs, in a holistic manner assessing, developing and implementing programmes of care and managing their complex physical, psycho social, emotional and spiritual needs.
Organise and manage own workload to ensure the delivery of care, to meet patient needs.
Ensure patients are referred appropriately to key health care workers when specialist palliative care intervention is completed.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Urology Outpatients department. The successful candidate will support clinicians in delivering high-quality patient care, assisting with procedures, and ensuring the smooth running of clinics. The role will involve a variety of clinical responsibilities and full training will be provided.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential. We are also seeking a candidate with a flexible approach and the ability to respond to the demands of a rapidly changing outpatient department.
You will be working within our specialised urology departments at our 2 main Urology outpatient sites: Royal Blackburn Hospital and Urology Investigations Unit at Burnley General Hospital, you may also be required to support our Urology clinics at Rossendale OPD.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve undertaking nurse led clinics, the coordinating and running of a busy outpatient department in the absence of the outpatient sister or manager. A variety of clinical skills will be essential including, male and female catheterisation, trial without catheter, bladder instillation's, flow rate clinics and assisting our Clinical Nurse Specialists and Doctors in a variety of other specialised procedures undertaken within the department.
As a registered nurse you will be required to participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members and to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families

Our approach is multi-disciplinaryand no day is ever the same. We work closely with A&E, Theatres, inpatient wards andprimary care. Emergency care is provided at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital where we have well-resourced day time operating theatres, 7 days a week. RBTH also has two dedicated inpatient wards for acute trauma, B22 and B24 each 23 bedded. B22 is our dedicated hip fracture ward.
We are one of the largest departments in the North West. We have a clinical team consisting of 21 Consultant Orthopaedic surgeons, Consultants specialized in care of the elderly, specialist trainees, middle grade doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, specialist nurses and junior doctors.
We provide hip fracture care for over 450 patients per year which makes us one of the busiest hospitals in the North West. We have consistently provided best practice in this field and achieved one of the highest percentages compared to national average as well as North West average.

Job summary
C14B is a busy surgical ward, looking after a variety of conditions from liver resections to cholecystitis. We currently have 17 beds and have a broad range of patients who deserve to receive high quality nursing care. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working and flexible nurse to join the team. We care for patients who are electively undergoing surgery and emergency patients both HPB and colorectal. We are the regional speciality area for HPB surgeries and take patients requiring surgical/specialist interventions from Blackpool and the Fylde Coast, South Lakes and Lancaster.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the safe, personal and effective care delivery to complex surgical patients, who require support from a wide range of nursing interventions, based on their individual needs. This will be ascertained following a detailed assessment of the patient on transfer to the ward either from the emergency surgical unit, theatre or critical care.
You will be responsible for between 5 and 8 patients usually, with medication administration, wound care, recognising deteriorating patients and acting accordingly, methods of specific analgesia such as PCA and epidurals, pre and post op care as well as managing patients stepping down form critical care. You will also be responsible for organising your shift working alongside one of our HCA's delivering care to your patients meeting their needs in relation to the activities of daily living such as mobility, skin integument, hygiene and nutrition. Please note this list is not exhaustive and being able to work under your own initiative and be responsive to the changing needs of the patients and the ward is important. You must be able to prioritise care accordingly.

Clinically coded data is used to record hospital activity for financial accountability purposes. Diseases and other health information can be extracted, measured and monitored in order to inform service planning and development, with the ultimate aim of improving the health and health care of the users of the Trust's services.
Clinical Coders areresponsible for the accurate and timely recording of clinical data to support the Trust's clinical and business requirements and for regional and National Health Service statistics.
The post holder will be required to work as a member of a team to provide an efficient clinical coding service working to established systems and procedures.
They will screen medical records, discharge summaries and other data sources to extract clinical information relevant to a patient's episode of care and turn this into structured diagnostic and procedure data using International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) and Office of the Population of Censuses and Surveys (OPCS 4) coding standards.
They will also communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians, nursing staff, other professionals and departments, both internal and external, across all specialties.

Job summary
This is a post for Physician Associates (PA) who have successfully passed their preceptorship to join our Emergency Medicine Directorate comprising two Urgent Care Centres and our Emergency Department.
You will be expected to work in the Emergency Department. You will always be supervised by an ED Consultant and in this role you will work with the Emergency Medicine Lead Consultant as the jobs clinician carrying out reviews or assisting with tasks that will facilitate the onward referral or discharge of patients within the Emergency Department. There will also be the opportunity to carry out management plans under the guidance of the Emergency Medicine Consultant working in the Urgent Intervention Area of the Department.
Main duties of the job

This role includes rotation across all areas of the Emergency Department and working with out multi disciplinary teams.

Job summary
The Estates department at Westmorland General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic person to join us.
You should be experienced, time served and suitably qualified in mechanical fitting or plumbing and fault finding.
Main duties of the job
A mechanical fitting/manufacturing/Heating background, particularly within healthcare, would be advantageous but not essential - as specific training will be provided.
This is a highly rewarding role. Working under the Mechanical Team Leader, the successful candidate will embark on a challenging adventure, safely, efficiently, and with patient and staff safety at the heart of their focus.
Working as part of a team, and individually, you will be required to carry out mechanical maintenance work within acute and community NHS properties. This will be on heating and pressure systems, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, medical gases, and other healthcare related mechanical services.
The successful candidate must be able to self-motivate, work relatively unsupervised, and be a good communicator on all levels. Flexible working will be required where you will assist other trades and undertake other tasks to maintain the building services.
The successful candidate will be required to join an on-call team to provide an out of hours emergency response - after an initial training period.
This post is based at Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal
About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
