Acute medicine at East Sussex healthcare Trust is an innovative service with a strong ethos of collaborative multidisciplinary team working. Our Acute Assessment Unit and Same day Emergency Care are co-located in close proximity to the Emergency Department. Considerable investment supports the progress and development of acute medicine, including 7 day working.

The successful applicant would primarily be working at Conquest Hospital across AAU and SDEC in collaboration with colleagues from the Emergency Department, Frailty and other medical specialties.

This post is a new post as part of our ambitions to grow our acute medical consultant workforce, over the next 18 months, with the aim of providing senior decision makers from 0800-2200, better meeting the needs of our patients and local population.

Main duties of the job

The existing Acute Medicine team are committed to delivering a high quality service and an enthusiastic individual is required to help take these plansforward. This appointment will help to drive forward the development of the SDECservice and ensure that high quality safe care facilitates early discharge, reduce patientlength of stay and ensure the transfer of appropriate patients to the sub-specialities.There will be a strong commitment to teaching Junior Staff the principles of acutemedicine that will occur as the opportunity arises on a day-to-day basis with acutepatients, as well as dedicated directorate teaching. There will be responsibility forgeneral professional training of the junior medical members of the department andcontributing to the training of nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team,and participating in the activities of the Medical Education Centre including ClinicalAudit and Quality improvement projects.The post holder will be expected to undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and running his or her clinical department. This post is to join the existing Consultant Orthopaedic team based across two DGH sites at Hastings and Eastbourne. This post is initially on a locum basis for 12 months, with the possibility of conversion to a substantive role.

The East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (ESHT) provides a comprehensive service in orthopaedic specialties for the surrounding districts of Hastings and Eastbourne. The post is required to support the surgical needs of the elective and trauma patients and supporting/lead the multidisciplinary team based on the trauma wards to enhance the quality and recovery of patients following trauma episodes.

The Eastbourne and Hastings Hospitals have an integrated Trust for the past 13 years. In line with reconfiguration of our service, orthopaedic trauma has been centralised on the Hastings site with elective surgery continuing on both sites.

The orthopaedic department has long standing links with both GKT Medical School in London and Brighton Medical School and we receive regular medical students within the Orthopaedic department from both of these institutions.

Main duties of the job

• KEY SPECIALTY RESPONSIBILITIES/INFORMATION:
• Surgical care of Trauma & Orthopaedic patients.
• Pre-op, perioperative and post-operative care of trauma and orthopaedic patients.
• Maintaining the highest clinical standards in the management of patients on the trauma, elective, outpatient units and other clinical areas, as required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Clinical Research Service at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The service delivers academic and commercial clinical research studies across a range of specialties as part of the National Institute for Health & Care Research infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse or Clinical Research Practitioner with excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills to support research delivery across ESHT. The successful candidate will have experience of research delivery, knowledge of clinical research governance and Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and the ability to work independently while managing a varied study portfolio.

This part-time role is for 15 hours per week across EDGH & Conquest Hospital. The preferred working days are Thursday and Friday, although flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the research service.

The post holder will coordinate and deliver high-quality clinical research studies, ensuring compliance with study protocols, regulatory requirements and NHS governance standards. The Microbiology Laboratory is based on a single site at the Eastbourne District General Hospital (EDGH) and is equipped with state of the art analysers/ equipment and has a Pathology-wide IT system that links with the hospital HISS system. The department processes in the region of 255,000 specimens a year.The department has a technical staff of 19 serving the Conquest Hospital, Eastbourne District General Hospital, and a large GP catchment area, providing an interesting and varied workload. This UKAS-accredited, IBMS training-approved and fully computerised department provides a comprehensive diagnostic service, including Serology. Current instrumentation includes BD Bactec blood culture system, Cepheid Genexpert PCR system, Urine Sedimax, MastUri, BDMax PCR analyser, Biomerieux MALDI-TOF.We currently have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to undertake all aspects of routine laboratory work, and function at a Specialist Biomedical Scientist level. You must be suitably qualified and HCPC-registered, with at least 2 years post-registration laboratory experience in the UK, with a completed IBMS specialist portfolio.Qualified and HCPC-registered BMS staff participate in the contractual 7-day rotas.

Main duties of the job

Biomedical Scientists working in Microbiology are responsible for analysing and interpreting the various causes of infection by the identification of disease-causing microorganisms, and for recommending their antibiotic treatment where appropriate. These processes utilise the most up-to-date scientific methods and highly complex analytical equipment, in conjunction with the traditional methods of culture, microscopy and antigen/antibody-complex diagnostics, and by the application of microbiological, biochemical, serological and molecular techniques. The post-holder will be required to have a variety of microbiology skills in order to perform all these tests.

Diagnostic work includes the examination of a wide variety of samples such as blood, tissue, urine, cerebrospinal fluid and faecal material. The Haematology Laboratory at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a well-organised and highly motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Haematology & Blood Transfusion team. Our services are based over two acute hospital sites at Conquest Hospital, Hastings and Eastbourne District General Hospital - you will be based at Eastbourne DGH although some cross-site working is required.

In return, the Trust is committed to the personal and professional development of its staff at all levels.

The Department is fully automated in its analytical platform for Blood Transfusion (Ortho Vision), Coagulation (Sysmex CN6000), Special Haematology (BioRad Variant II) and Haematology (Sysmex XN1000/2000), and uses the iLab/Apex Laboratory Information system. LIMS is due to be replaced in 2027 with Winpath Enterprise.

Full 24/ hour, 7 days a week acute services are operated at both acute hospital sites. Candidates will be required to participate in the full shift rota, covering weekdays, nights and weekends after suitable training and assessment.

QualifiedBiomedical Scientists, who have HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist with a Specialist Portfolio in Haematology/Transfusion Science and suitable experience in Haematology/Blood Transfusion within an NHS setting, or within a laboratory with IBMS training approval, are encouraged to apply.

As a Band 6 Specialist Dietitian within ESHT you will be supported in the Acute settings. Duties include providing specialist advice to Stroke, Frailty, Surgery, Gastroenterology, ITU and Orthopaedics inpatients in the Acute Hospitals.

You will liaise closely with the patients' relatives and carers regarding ongoing nutritional care and discharge planning. You will also provide expert nutritional advice and knowledge to the wider MDT.

Our supportive Dietetic Department includes over 40 clinicians and associated staff working across the specialities of community nutrition support, diabetes, gastroenterology, inpatients, intensive care, oncology, paediatrics, prescribing support and rehabilitation. Our department also includes Primary Care Network (PCN) dietitians, apprentice dietitians and trainee Advanced Practitioner (AP) dietitians. To be responsible for dietetic management of a range of patients (using specialist knowledge and skills), including: general medical inpatients, gastroenterology patients and rehab inpatients.

Main duties of the job

This post is based in both community setting & acute settings cross county and you will be working in conjunction with the foot protection team with access to the MDT , MSK team and also hold a domiciliary caseload. Your work will be focused on undertaking podiatry assessments, contributing to treatment planning and clinical treatments following evidence based clinical pathways in the foot and ankle pathways.

The post holder will also be required to attend meetings or training across East Sussex therefore being a car driver / owner is essential for this post.

You will be part of a friendly, supportive, professional team, and will be fully supported to develop your professional skills and areas of special clinical interest.. You will be actively involved with student placements

Additionally, we have a satellite site at Eastbourne DGH where specimen dissection is also performed.Our facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology through a Managed Service Contract, featuring cutting-edge equipment such as Epredia Revos Tissue Processors, Menarini E-Gross Pro X grossing stations, ThermoScientific HM525NX Cryostats, Sakura Prisma staining machine with a film coverslipper, Ventana Benchmark Ultra, Ventana Benchmark Ultra Plus, Ventana Benchmark Special Stains and Hammamatsu Nanozoomer digital scanners.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you'll be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist within Histopathology, in line with ISO 15189 standards and you'll have rotated across the department, providing scientific services to patients and customers to aid pathological diagnosis. You'll deputise for senior team members, assist in workflow management, support with the management of documentation, and general overall performance. You'll also play a vital role in the training and development of junior scientific staff.

We support and encourage our Specialist Biomedical Scientists to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities, which could be internal talks and seminars, as well as attending approved courses. We have a dedicated Training officer within our department. The department has full HCPC training status for pre and post registration IBMS portfolios, and full ISO 15189 accreditation.
