We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive team at Fell Tower Medical Centre.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative and communication skills who enjoys working in a busy healthcare environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our clinical team and ensuring patients receive a high standard of service.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Secretary will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the clinical team, ensuring the efficient processing of referrals, correspondence and patient information. The role involves liaising with hospitals and other healthcare providers, maintaining accurate patient records, processing information requests, managing incoming communications and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice while maintaining strict confidentiality. The post holder will also provide administrative support to clinicians and assist the reception team when required.

Fell Tower Medical Centre is a busy and popular Practice based in Low Fell, Gateshead. We work from a purpose built three-storey Practice in the heart of Low Fell. We are a forward thinking Practice, continually looking at ways to maintain a high quality service to our 7500 patients. We have an established and efficient administration team which allows our Clinicians to focus on patient care.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of referrals, clinical correspondence and patient-related documentation, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner. Key duties include processing referrals through the NHS Electronic Referral Service (e-RS), liaising with hospitals and community healthcare providers, maintaining accurate patient records, processing information requests such as Subject Access Requests and insurance reports, and managing incoming telephone and email enquiries. The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians and colleagues to support the effective day-to-day running of the practice whilst maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality.
