Job summary
Golden Valley Practice is a small, high-achieving rural dispensing practice caring for 5,800 patients in south-west Herefordshire. We are looking for an experienced GP to join us as a partner for 4 to 6 sessions per week and play a meaningful part in the future of the practice.
Continuity and relationship-based general practice remain central to how we work. We know our patients, often care for several generations of the same family, and believe there is real value in the personal general practice that comes from knowing both the patient and their wider circumstances.
We are looking for an experienced and clinically confident GP who shares those values and cares about the quality of service we provide. Someone with the maturity and sound judgement that partnership requires: kind, dependable, good with people and willing to get stuck in.
Main duties of the job
As a GP Partner, you will undertake the full range of general practice while sharing responsibility for the clinical, operational and financial success of the partnership.
Alongside your clinical work, you will contribute to the wider running and development of the practice, including clinical governance, quality and patient safety, workforce and service development, financial and strategic decision-making and the responsibilities associated with delivering our NHS contracts.
Partnership responsibilities will be shared according to the needs of the practice and the skills and interests of individual partners.
About us
We work from our main surgery in Ewyas Harold and branch surgery in Peterchurch, covering the beautiful Golden Valley and surrounding countryside towards the Black Mountains. Our main surgery is approximately 25 minutes from Hereford and 20 minutes from Abergavenny.
Our size allows us to retain a strong emphasis on continuity of care, while dispensing is an important part of both the service we provide to our rural population and the financial strength of the practice.
We have excellent patient feedback and strong clinical performance. We have pharmacist and pharmacy technician support and work closely with our community nursing, palliative care and wider primary care colleagues.
We have worked hard to make the working life of a GP sustainable. Routine appointments are 15 minutes and clinical workload is capped at 25 patient contacts per day. We use GP Automate and our GP Assistant reviews the majority of incoming Docman correspondence so that only items requiring clinical input reach a GP.
We are a successful dispensing practice with strong clinical performance and very competitive partner remuneration. As the practice premises are not partner-owned, joining the partnership does not require the substantial property investment associated with many traditional GP partnerships. We offer six weeks' annual leave and one week's study leave pro rata, together with generous protected administrative time for partnership responsibilities.

Job description
Job responsibilities
As a GP Partner, you will undertake the full range of general practice while sharing responsibility for the clinical, operational and financial success of the partnership.
Alongside your clinical work, you will contribute to the wider running and development of the practice, including clinical governance, quality and patient safety, workforce and service development, financial and strategic decision-making and the responsibilities associated with delivering our NHS contracts.
Partnership responsibilities will be shared according to the needs of the practice and the skills and interests of individual partners. We welcome someone who will bring their own experience and ideas, take responsibility for agreed areas of the practice and contribute to its future direction.
We are looking for someone who wants to be part of the practice rather than simply work within it sharing both the responsibilities and rewards of partnership.
The post is for 4 to 6 sessions per week.
We offer:
- Six weeks' annual leave and one week's study leave, pro rata
- NHS Pension
- Generous protected administrative time to undertake partnership responsibilities
- Very competitive partner remuneration
- A relatively modest capital commitment, with no requirement to buy into practice premises
- Scope to develop individual clinical and professional interests
Previous partnership experience is welcome but not essential. A GP with substantial experience in UK general practice who now wants greater involvement, professional autonomy and the opportunity to help run and shape a practice would be equally welcome.

About us
The Golden Valley Practice is a small, friendly, rural dispensing practice situated in beautiful south-west Herefordshire Split across two locations caring for approximately 5700 patients. We have 1 GP Partner, 3 Salaried GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 2 Practice Nurses and 2 HCAs, a Clinical Pharmacist and a Pharmacy Technician, as well as a large friendly administrative team.
We are a genuinely small team. Our size means that we know our patients, and continuity is central to how we organise and deliver care. Many of our patients have been with the practice for generations, and it is common to know several members of the same family.
We are proud of the relationship we have with our patients and local community. Our 2026 GP Patient Survey found that 89% rated their overall experience of the practice as good, 99% had confidence and trust in the healthcare professional they saw, and 98% felt their needs were met during their appointment.
Being rural also brings particularly close relationships with our wider community healthcare colleagues. We have excellent working relationships with our district nursing and palliative care teams and meet regularly to discuss shared patients. We are also part of a supportive and collaborative Primary Care Network.

Job summary
After more than 20 years at Golden Valley Surgery, our highly valued Practice Manager will be leaving us in early 2027. We are therefore looking for an exceptional Practice Manager to join us and help shape the next chapter of our practice.
Golden Valley Surgery is a friendly, rural dispensing GP practice caring for approximately 5,800 patients from two surgeries in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. We believe strongly in traditional family medicine, continuity of care and providing a genuinely personal service to our patients, while embracing new ideas and technology where they improve care or make working life better for our team.
We are looking for an experienced, confident and capable leader who is approachable, practical and solutions-focused. You will work closely with the partners and lead an experienced management team, with real scope to influence how the practice develops.
Previous general practice or NHS experience would be an advantage, but is not essential. Excellent leadership and management skills matter most to us.
Our current Practice Manager will remain with us until early 2027, allowing plenty of time for a comprehensive handover and a supported transition into the role.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Manager will provide overall operational and business leadership for Golden Valley Surgery, working closely with the partners to ensure the safe, effective and sustainable running of the practice across both sites.
You will lead our experienced management team and wider workforce, maintaining oversight of day-to-day operations while ensuring agreed priorities are translated into practical delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, supporting and developing the practice team, including recruitment, workforce planning, HR and staff development.
- Maintaining oversight of staffing, operational pressures and effective day-to-day running of both surgery sites.
- Overseeing practice finances, income, expenditure and business processes, and supporting the partners with longer-term business planning.
- Ensuring effective systems are in place to meet NHS contractual, CQC, governance and regulatory requirements.
- Overseeing premises, IT, business continuity and the operational aspects of our dispensing service.
- Working with the partners and wider team to develop services, improve systems and introduce new ways of working.
- Maintaining effective relationships with our PCN, ICB, neighbouring practices and other external organisations.
You will be supported by an experienced Deputy Practice Manager, Operations Lead and Dispensary Manager, with responsibilities delegated appropriately while you retain overall operational oversight.
About us
Golden Valley Surgery is a friendly, independent rural dispensing practice caring for approximately 5,800 patients from our surgeries in Ewyas Harold and Peterchurch.
We have an experienced multidisciplinary team including GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, nursing and healthcare teams, pharmacist, dispensary, reception and administrative staff, supported by an experienced Deputy Practice Manager, Operations Lead and Dispensary Manager. We are also a teaching practice and enjoy supporting the next generation of clinicians.
We are a close-knit team with a strong work ethic and a shared commitment to providing high-quality, personal care. We value continuity, teamwork and knowing our patients well. We also believe that a good working environment matters: we want people to feel supported, valued and able to contribute ideas about how we can do things better.
As a smaller practice, people know one another and individual contributions genuinely make a difference. We combine the values of traditional family general practice with a willingness to embrace new technology and better ways of working.
We offer six weeks annual leave, NHS Pension Scheme membership and opportunities for training and professional development. The Practice Manager is supported by an established management team, external professional HR advice and an excellent local Practice Manager network providing peer support, meetings and dedicated training.
