Job summary
Advert may close early if sufficient volume of applications is reached*
Various exciting and challenging positions have arisen for Level 3 Apprenticeships in Multi Skilled Engineering (note as this is a MultiSkill apprenticeship you will study and work both electrical and mechanical aspects). The Apprenticeship Standard you will study for will be the 'Healthcare Engineering Specialist Technician' (HEST); option 2.
Support service installations and their maintenance are an essential part of the NHS and form a vital link in Health Care Provision. The precise details of any of the apprenticeship are dependent on a number of factors that may be subject to change at various stages of the training and qualifications already obtained, however, the information below will provide an overview of the envisaged training requirements of the apprenticeship.
The apprentice will attend a college to study for the technical knowledge aspect of the apprenticeship for example one day / evening a week for the first two years and practical basic skills training as a block release for approximately 8 months. Once this has been achieved, the apprentice will then commence training towards their End Point Assessment for their full Apprenticeship Standard, which will take place within the Employing organisation and NYNHSAC.
Main duties of the job
The Multi Skilled Electrical / Mechanical Engineering Apprentice will undertake a structured four-year HEST apprenticeship combining formal technical education with supervised workplace learning. The apprentice will attend college, training centres and other required learning activities, complete the necessary portfolio, logbooks and competency records, and work towards successful completion of the apprenticeship gateway and end-point assessment. They will take responsibility for their learning and development, meet agreed training targets and maintain regular communication with supervisors, assessors and the training provider.
Under the supervision of suitably qualified and experienced engineers, the apprentice will learn to diagnose faults and support the maintenance, repair, installation and testing of electrical and mechanical plant, equipment and building services. Duties will progressively include planned preventative maintenance, statutory inspections and testing, minor improvements, use of engineering drawings and specifications, selection of materials, safe use of tools and accurate completion of maintenance records. All work will remain within the apprentice's assessed competence and will follow Trust procedures, risk assessments, permits to work, infection prevention requirements and relevant health and safety standards.
