Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Practitioner (Clinical, Counselling or Health) Psychologist to join our Clinical Health Psychology Service. This is a part time, 8a or 7-8a role, in our General Medicine Service. We would also consider a recently qualified Practitioner Psychologist for a 7-8a development role. The post holder will be based between Cross Street Health Centre in Dudley and Whitmore Reans in Wolverhampton, with the expectation that they will work across Dudley and Wolverhampton, according to service need. The key medical specialities the postholder will work with are Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Diabetes, Respiratory and Renal. The aim of our service is to decrease psychological distress, improve quality of life, patient experience and enhance wellbeing in those who have a physical health condition, supporting people to live well, alongside their condition.
Main duties of the job
The service offers psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to patients from the pathways/teams/Consultants outlined above. A further comprehensive psychological assessment is in place for those undergoing a live donor kidney transplant. The service also offers teaching, training and consultancy to staff from these multi-disciplinary teams to enable them to manage psychological issues with their patients and incorporate psychological principles into their own practice. This provides the postholder with variety in their work and the opportunity to use the full range of their skills.
About us
We will use the stepped care model based on the guidance, with physical health psychology offering direct work with the most complex patients and supporting the team to work with lower-level distress via teaching and training, supervision and consultation.
There is good professional support and supervision in place, from the Principal Clinical Psychologist who leads the General Medicine Service and also from the wider Clinical Health Psychology Team.

About us
Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was formed on 1 April 2020, with the merger of Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.
We currently employ over 3,500 people and just like the population we serve, we are made up of diverse cultures and backgrounds. We know that our Trust runs on the desire to help and support people, and our Trust vision expresses this. Our vision is to improve health and wellbeing for everyone, especially our colleagues to achieve the best possible work/life balance.
We proudly offer supportive, inclusive and family friendly employment and flexible working policies. We have a wide range of professional services and employee networks to help our colleagues be at their best - and find support if they need it. To find more about our staff benefits, please visit our website: blackcountryhealthcare.nhs.uk.
Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and ethnic minority candidates are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Black Country Healthcare we recognise and value all forms of knowledge and expertise, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification or criteria in the job description/person specification, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
