Trustees of The Childrens Trust play a critical role in the leadership of our Charity, ensuring that it achieves its objects to the benefit of children, young people, and their families.
With one of our trustee members of the Quality, Safeguarding, Experience & Assurance Committee (QSEAC) having recently resigned from the board, we are looking to appoint a new trustee with recent board level experience as a strategic medical or clinical leader, ideally with senior paediatric experience.

Ensuring the board acts in the charitys best interest, exercising reasonable care and skill in its decision making, managing TCTs resources responsibility, and avoiding exposing the charitys assets or beneficiaries or reputation to undue risk.
Contributing to the strategic development and planning process, including providing commercial acumen, insight into the external market and wider sector, or brining experience of strategy development at similar organisations.
Ensuring the organisational culture and values, governance arrangements, management, and operational structures are fit for purpose, helping TCT achieve its strategic aims and objectives and minimise risk.
Reviewing and approving budgets and business plans to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
Supporting the board to fulfil the full range of its statutory and oversight responsibilities. This includes oversight of operational and financial performance, risk management, governance (corporate, clinical, and educational), quality and regulatory compliance and in providing assurance on these matters to the board.
Coaching and mentoring senior leadership or providing subject matter expertise on specific topics/ challenges.

Job summary
3 Junior Specialist Doctor Higher's in Geriatric Medicine
We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and hardworking doctors to join our Geriatric Medicine Department as Junior Specialty doctor - Higher at the Midland Metropolitan Hospital
The posts are offered on a one-year fixed-term basis in the first instance, starting as soon as possible, with the potential for longer-term opportunities within the Trust, subject to performance and progress. These are ST3+ level posts (approximately 4-5 years post-qualification). Although not formally approved training posts, we aim to mirror the training opportunities available to doctors in training. The JSD rotation offers the opportunity to consolidate your medical experience within a supportive environment, with broad clinical exposure and training in a progressive Trust that has received numerous national and local awards.
Closing date: 10th September 2026
Interview date: 29th September 2026
Main duties of the job
We would be keen to work with successful applicants to design rotations that would provide exposure to the full range of Geriatric and General (internal) medicine to suit their training needs and career aspirations. We envisage that the JSD (Higher) would act as a stepping stone into specialty training in Geriatric and General Medicine. The candidate will also contribute to the General Medicine rota where they will carry out roles in line with a middle grade in medicine. This will include leading the acute medical take, reviewing and managing acutely unwell patients in ED, AMU and wards and leading the EMRT team.
Appointees will gain experience in all medical procedures and will also work within the medical ambulatory care. This post in Elderly Care may involve in SpR rotations within Acute Frailty, General Geriatrics, Orthogeriatrics and Surgical Liaison. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside Geriatricians with a special interest in the above fields.
About us
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country - one of the country's most culturally diverse areas. It's a friendly and welcoming place - a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.
We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.
Our values - Ambition, Respect and Compassion - are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.
Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to "Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population." It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It's what makes us unique.
We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded. A place where you can develop your career in whatever way you choose. When we say we're 'with you all the way' we want you to know that we mean it. Visit the SWB website to find out more about our ambitions and people plans.
