The role involves a significant amount of travel and driving due to the geographical area covered and the need to visit children and families in community settings, including homes and schools. To lead therapeutic play interventions that meet the emotional and developmental needs of children and young people (0–18 years) diagnosed with cancer. The role involves working autonomously to plan and deliver specialised play programmes within the child’s home environment, supporting emotional wellbeing and reducing anxiety associated with hospital admissions, medical procedures, and long-term treatment. You will have significant experience in the assessment, differential diagnosis and management of communication and dysphagia in the adult inpatient setting and as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will be able to demonstrate highly developed skills in the assessment, treatment and management of complex communication and swallowing breakdown. Advanced developed skills in both high and low tech AAC would be desirable.

Established leadership skills are essential for this role, joining our dynamic team of Band 7 leaders across our adult SLT service. You will be expected to operationally and clinically lead the acute inpatient team working cross sites (Leeds General Infirmary and St. James University Hospital). You will work alongside B7 peers and support the clinical development of the team.

There is an established instrumental service within LTHT with weekly clinics for both Videofluoroscopy and FEES (fibre optic evaluation of swallowing) assessments. We have recently purchased new FEES equipment which shows our investment in providing a quality service for our patients.

Governance is a key component of this role with the post holder expected to undertake regular audit, collate clinical outcomes, and participate in quality forums within your assigned clinical support units and Speech & Language Therapy with a view to continually improving quality, safety and productivity. It is desirable to have previous experience in completion of quality improvement projects.

Patient safety is a key focus area within the NHS, LTHT and our department. We are keen to continue to support and work collaboratively with staff in LTHT to minimise patient swallow related safety incidents, and drive improvements in safety and quality.

Teaching will be a significant part of your role, both SLT and MDT teaching. You will have experience in providing teaching and supporting competency development with Speech & Language Therapy colleagues. You will have evidence of experience in mentoring and clinical supervision.

The Outpatient Administration team work in collaboration with the Referral and Booking Service, Outpatient Nursing, Switchboard, Phlebotomy and the Robotic Process Automation teams. Together we form the Outpatient Clinical Service Unit. The administration support includes computer-based work using our Patient Administration System and providing front of house reception support, delivering a high standard of patient care. Our Clerical Officer team ensure all paperwork and systems are prepared in advance of Outpatient appointments. They also provide receptionist support across a number of reception areas; book patient appointments in person and by telephone; and ensure all post clinic actions are completely timely.

Leeds Children's Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader to lead our Children's Nutrition IBD and Gastroenterology Specialist Nursing Services.

This is an exciting opportunity for an autonomous and confident nurse with extensive experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Service Leadership. The successful postholder will provide expert clinical care as a Nutrition Nurse Specialist whilst leading and managing the specialist nursing teams supporting Parental Nutrition (PN), Enteral Nutrition (EN), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and General Gastroenterology.

Working within a nationally recognised tertiary gastroenterology service, the post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care for Children and Young People across Yorkshire and Humber.

Leeds Children's Hospital is one of the largest Children's Hospitals in the country.

Leeds Children's Hospital has state of the art treatments, facilities and a comprehensive development programme for Nurses.

The postholder will provide expert clinical leadership within the Children's Nutrition Service, supporting patients receiving parental and enteral nutrition.

Line manage and professionally lead the Children's PN, EN and IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist teams.

Support the development, implementation and review of clinical guidelines, policies, care pathways, audit programmes and patient information resources.

Lead the development and delivery of education and training programmes for patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals.

Work collaboratively with local hospitals and community nursing teams across the Yorkshire and Humber region, providing specialist advice, support and education relating to Paediatric Artificial Nutrition.

Actively contribute to the wider Paediatric Gastroenterology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and participate in governance, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Provide clinical leadership for nasogastric (NGT) safety across Leeds Children's Hospital, supporting ongoing education, governance and quality assurance to maintain the highest standards of patient safety.

Support service development and innovation across Nutrition and IBD services, ensuring care is responsive, effective and aligned with local and national priorities.

Work closely with consultants, allied health professional, managers and wider MDT Colleagues to identify service challenges and implement improvement plans where required.

Foster a positive team culture that values professional development, continuous learning and staff wellbeing.

Support and encourage colleagues to achieve their personal and professional development goals through mentorship, supervision and career planning.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in regional, national and international professional networks relevant to paediatric nutrition and gastroenterology. This will provide opportunities to contribute to service development, share best practice and attend educational events and conferences.
