The role is to provide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care. You will deliver care without supervision and take responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of patients and at all times promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate patient care. The role will involve taking charge of the ward or department as necessary in the absence of the Sister or Charge Nurse. You will participate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners and students as well as maintaining your personal development. The jobholder will work within an environment caring for adult patients on a Day Surgery Unit which has overnight bed capacity Monday to Saturday.

Job Summary

Key roles and responsibilities as a Biomedical Scientist include:

To carry out the job sufficiently and effectively you will have successfully studied for an accredited degree in biomedical sciences, or other equivalent qualification acceptable to the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS.

Registered Biomedical Scientist with the HCPC.

Hold/working towards a Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry.

To be able to perform a wide range of specialist clinical technical investigations

What you will bring to the role

As a specialist biomedical scientist, you will be a fully competent member of the department. Normally working as part of a team, you will be expected to perform a wide range of specialist clinical technical investigations. At other times you may be required to work alone and independently, for example when working on-call. Working in different sections of the department you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute towards the provision of an accurate and timely service for patients. You will be expected to apply professional judgements and specialist skills to technically complex and sometimes difficult situations. Within the team you may be required to organize the tasks of support workers. You will be required to communicate highly complex information, often related to patient management and care, to colleagues, healthcare staff and other organizations.

You will be required to attend MDT and other user meetings where appropriate. Post holders will be involved in R&D and may lead projects, under supervision, where appropriate.

The post holder will assist in the day to day running of the laboratory or a particular section of the laboratory, under supervision/delegation of the advanced biomedical scientist. This will involve QC and EQA authorisation, training, risk and incident assessment and investigation and HR procedures. The post holder will be expected to have an awareness of budgets and resource responsibility.

In order to carry out the job sufficiently and effectively you will have successfully studied for an accredited degree in biomedical sciences, or other equivalent qualification acceptable to the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). You will have developed a range of competencies and specialist knowledge in all aspects of the discipline through extensive practical experience, in house training and structured study through the IBMS specialist portfolio programme and will continue to develop your skills and knowledge subject to the requirements of continuous professional development (CPD). The ARDT Senior Clinical Research Practitioner will be required to travel throughout the West Yorkshire region delivering all aspects of clinical and non-clinical research.

This will include managing multiple concurrent projects and research sites, requiring flexibility and adjustment according to demand.

Manages all aspects of study delivery including; screening, recruitment (including obtaining informed consent), delivering interventions, follow ups, data management, sample collection and processing as required, across all specialties and settings.

Act in accordance with current legislation, including Good Clinical Practice, research governance legislation, and the Data Protection Act.

Contribute to the leadership and management of a dedicated research delivery and support team, with adherence to Host policies and procedures. This may include undertaking supervision, mentorship and staff reviews to identify training and development needs, and establishing how those needs will be met, and managing performance against agreed objectives.

The NIHR RRDNs have three key roles.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting quality governance and patient safety across Leeds Children's Hospital. They will coordinate mortality review, Learning from Deaths and Child Death Review processes, maintain governance databases and dashboards, and produce reports and analysis to support quality improvement initiatives.

Working closely with clinicians, managers and external partners, they will support national programmes such as NCEPOD and NICE guidance reviews, organise governance meetings, monitor data quality and compliance, and help ensure that learning from reviews and audits is shared effectively across services.
