This is an exciting opportunity to join the dedicated and dynamic team in Bexley Wing Theatres at St. James’s University Hospital.

Our Bexley Wing Theatre department is well established and consists of four operating theatres delivering high-quality, specialised care for patients undergoing Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Gynae Oncology Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. We also carry out innovative Robotic Surgery in each of these specialities.

The Bexley Wing Theatre Department predominantly carries out major elective surgery and is required to run a service for six out of seven days (Saturday working is expected). Our working hours are 08:00-18:00 but there is an expectation to be flexible around start and finish times due to the nature of the surgery that we carry out.

The successful candidate must be a Registered Practitioner (Nurse Registered or Operating Department Practitioner Registered). Previous operating theatre experience is desired but not essential. There will be an expectation for the successful candidate to work in all specialities (Upper GI, Gynae Oncology, Thoracic and Robotic) in a scrub capacity, anaesthetic capacity or both. The candidate may also be required to occasionally work in other specialities to meet service demand. This will give them the opportunity to expand on their current skills and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to complete a ‘Passport to Practice’ preceptorship programme to gain knowledge and experience relative to the role. During this period, a group of supportive, highly skilled practitioners will support the candidate to become a competent practitioner in Bexley Wing Theatres.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a department where we continually strive for a high standard of patient care. New and innovative practices mean that the candidate will be working in a department in one of the country’s leading teaching hospitals.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for four Assistant Psychologists (Band 4) to join the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology Services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidates will gain a good understanding of the role of clinical psychologists within Clinical and Health Psychology, with opportunities to shadow and observe qualified clinical psychologists. The Rheumatology department in Leeds is internationally renowned for treatment and research and offers the highest levels of service, and access to world class treatment in Trauma & Orthopaedics.

The Clinical Service Unit at Chapel Allerton Hospital consists of the Elective Orthopaedic Centre, Rheumatology and Dermatology and complex rehabilitation services.

Who we are

Our 160-strong workforce at Leeds St James Hospital provides the Leeds Central Genomics Laboratory for the NEY Genomic Laboratory Hub. The NEY GLH serves around 9 million patients regionally and brings together genomic expertise across NHS Trusts in Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield. We also provide highly specialised tests for inherited cancers for the wider NHS.

The Jobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward/department. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team.

The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward or department’s philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

Criteria:

Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children’s areas) (Level 1 or 2)

Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

Evidence of effective professional and leadership development

Willing to undergo training as necessary

Extensive post registration experience

Significant experience within a leadership role or equivalent

Experience of managing and leading a team

Experience in service development and/or change management

Experience in audit & standard setting

Current issues in health and social care

Excellent written and verbal skills

We are currently recruiting for dedicated individuals to join our growing team in the Genomics Central Laboratory at Leeds St James’s University Hospital, as Clinical Scientists.

Working closely with colleagues at Leeds and across the wider North East and Yorkshire (NEY) region, you’ll be responsible for the:

Delivery and scientific development of a high-quality diagnostic laboratory genetics service

Scientific leadership in service provision for a specified clinical area

Providing advice to consultants and other service users

Making contributions to shape national best-practice

Essential criteria

HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist with evidenced Genomics experience (including Clinical Scientists from other STP disciplines); or

Final year (or late second year) Clinical Scientist trainee on an accredited training programme (e.g. STP or equivalence) with evidenced genomic experience; or

MSC or PHD in Genetics, with significant laboratory and analytical experience in a relevant clinical setting*; or

HCPC-registered biomedical scientists (BMS) with genomics experience in a relevant clinical setting*

*Would be appointed at an appropriate grade until HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist by portfolio submission via ACS which you should expect to be able to deliver within 12m.

Who we are

Our 160-strong workforce at Leeds St James Hospital provides the Leeds Central Genomics Laboratory for the NEY Genomic Laboratory Hub. The NEY GLH serves around 9 million patients regionally and brings together genomic expertise across NHS Trusts in Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield. We also provide highly specialised tests for inherited cancers for the wider NHS.

The Leeds Central Genomics laboratory is responsible for delivering the high throughput Next Generation Sequencing facility for the GLH, based around NovaSeq, NextSeq550DX and Genexus platforms with associated technical and bioinformatics support to deliver an efficient service, in addition to a broad spectrum of equipment and technologies to support a full genomic laboratory.

Over £4m has been invested in new and cutting-edge equipment in the last four years.

The laboratory works closely with the Translational Genomics Unit, a joint LTHT and University of Leeds team who deliver research and service development with the genomics team: a particular focus at the moment is on long read sequencing technologies for both Rare Disease and Haemato-Oncology services.

With recent advances in our understanding of genetics and the availability of new technologies, we are in a better position than ever before to deliver effective diagnostic testing for inherited diseases and to facilitate an ever more targeted and personalised approach to cancer diagnostics and treatment.
