Job summary
Using knowledge and competences demonstrated since qualification and as a Band 6 radiographer in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, carry out all clinical duties required during cardiac invasive procedures providing specialist radiological clinical technical services.
Working within a multidisciplinary, sterile environment, with highly sophisticated, specialised equipment, the responsibilities of the post holder include patient care, patient and equipment positioning, acquisition, manipulation and archive/hardcopy of radiographic images. As both diagnostic and interventional examinations require the introduction of catheters and guide wires into the heart and its major arterial or venous system, it is essential that the procedure is performed quickly and that all images produced demonstrate the required anatomy in a rapid and efficient sequence of projections.
The procedures involve the use of a wide range of expensive, sterile consumables and a detailed knowledge of these is required. The radiographer is expected to provide advice to the Specialist Registrars on appropriate equipment selection i.e. catheters, which will facilitate the procedure.
Cardiac angiography procedures are high radiation dose examinations, and the radiographer is a highly trained expert in radiation protection. Minimising radiation dose to the patient, operator and other staff present during the procedure is a critical responsibility of the post.
Main duties of the job
A Cardiac radiographer role is a highly specialised role whereby well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the multi-disciplinary team is essential.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to remain calm under pressure with a frequently unpredictable work pattern.
A comprehensive knowledge of adult cardiac anatomy, cardiac function and its role in physiology is essential.
You need to be able to demonstrate a high degree of manual dexterity when operating radiographic equipment and the ability to function independently (unsupervised) using own initiative in relation to operating radiographic equipment
Demonstrable effective organisational/time management skills and the ability to process complex information are key areas of this role aswell as being flexible to meet the demands of the service .
An in-depth knowledge of all procedures performed within in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory is required because of the speciality.
Self-motivated, team worker and a professional role model with a good standard of health and fitness is required due to the nature of the work and prolonged periods of standing in one position whilst wearing Radiation PPE and sole working whilst on call.
As a Band 6 radiographer with specialist skills in cardiac radiography, the post holder is expected to assist in the training, supervision and support of more junior colleagues.

Job summary
Consultant Psychiatrist - South Gloucestershire
Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist looking for an exciting opportunity to provide clinical leadership and shape the future of mental health services?
Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) is committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care and driving innovation across our services. We are seeking a motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our South Gloucestershire locality, working across two key services: the Inpatient Open Rehabilitation Unit at 37 Whittucks Road, Hanham, and the Primary Care Liaison Service (PCLS) at Kingswood Civic Centre.
This varied role offers the opportunity to influence care across inpatient and community settings. Within the Rehabilitation Unit, you will provide clinical and medical leadership, supporting the development of rehabilitation services across South Gloucestershire and BNSSG.
In the PCLS, you will strengthen an established multidisciplinary team, helping to meet growing demand, expand clinical capacity, and improve access to specialist mental health support within primary care.
Join a forward-thinking Trust where your expertise, leadership and ideas will help shape services and improve outcomes for the communities we serve.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to work across two established services within South Gloucestershire: the Primary Care Liaison Service (PCLS) and the Inpatient Open Rehabilitation Unit.
Within PCLS, you will provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for service users in the community, undertaking both initial medical assessments and follow-up reviews. You will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team, attending daily triage and clinical discussion meetings, providing medical expertise to support patient care, and offering advice and guidance to GPs and other healthcare professionals.
Within the Open Rehabilitation Unit, you will provide consultant leadership and comprehensive psychiatric care to inpatients, including direct and indirect clinical care, supervision of junior medical staff, consultation with colleagues, and multidisciplinary working. An opportunity to join an established interventional radiology service and help shape its future development
The highly regarded, forward-thinking Radiology Department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated substantive Consultant Interventional Radiologist to join our friendly and ambitious team. This permanent appointment offers the opportunity to contribute to an established interventional radiology service, work across a broad range of procedures and help shape the future direction of the service across Hampshire Hospitals and the wider regional network.
This is an exciting time to join Hampshire Hospitals. We have invested in our interventional radiology service, with refurbishment and modernisation of our angiography suites to provide a modern clinical environment. We are looking for a colleague with a strong interest in vascular and general interventional radiology who would also welcome the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of our interventional oncology service.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work across Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, delivering a broad range of vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology procedures. Our established workload includes peripheral vascular intervention, embolisation, venous intervention, nephrostomy and biliary intervention, image-guided drainage and biopsy, vascular access and other minimally invasive treatments.
We are particularly interested in recruiting a colleague with a strong vascular interest and a broad-based general interventional radiology practice who is keen to develop their clinical interests within a supportive and collaborative team.
Alongside our established interventional workload, our interventional oncology service continues to develop, creating opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in and contribute to the growth of minimally invasive oncological treatments, including tumour ablation and other image-guided therapies. We would welcome someone enthusiastic about developing their experience and expertise in this area and helping shape the future direction of the service.
About us
Across HHFT we currently have 2 IR/Fluoro rooms and 1 Interventional room, 2 clinical rooms for ultrasound guided procedures, and day case recovery faculties on each site, 5 static CT scanners and 3 static MRI scanners (details below). Insignia PACS, CRIS and Talking point Voice Recognition are integrated across HHFT (PACS system undergoing replacement currently). Home-reporting workstations are provided for all Consultant Radiologists to facilitate the on-call service, flexible reporting and additional voluntary reporting ('insourcing').
The diagnostic on-call runs from 1700 - 2000 weekdays and 0900 - 2000 at the weekend, a separate rota for each site. An out of hours IR service is provided via a regional network with Frimley Health Foundation Trust.
The trust has recently committed to a multi-million pound programme of investment to refresh diagnostic imaging equipment over the next 10 years. The department has already benefited from a completely new fleet of Ultrasound machines, new X-ray rooms, and a new CT scanner. Two new MRI scanners are to be installed at the end of 2023.
