This approach to community care provides increase meaningful clinical activity and ensures evidence-based care in a way that reduces patient journey times and waste. Key elements of PPCS are in place and include the use of clinical huddles and clinical leadership teams in key decision-making and the need for more assertive caseload review and management processes. This occurs through incorporating early senior input into patient formulation and care as well as hosting regular reviews which allows clear and early decision-making. The core clinical work will involve outpatient clinics, formulation, review and leadership meetings and Mental Health Act-related work. The direct clinical workload centres on one new-patient clinic (2-3) patients weekly and two follow-up clinics weekly (5-6 patients each) approximately. Assessment of new patients and review of old ones will be according to need, as may be requested by their different care co-ordinators or the leadership team.
Based on Royal College recommendations, Outpatient work will comprise 3.5 PAs; Clinical Admin 1 PA; MDT work 1 PA; Emergencies 1 PA and MHA work 0.5 PAs. There will be flexibility around this guide depending on team requirements and support.

Reference: 2445760
Job summary
Are you an experienced Emergency Nurse ready to take the next step in your career? Or perhaps you're already working at Band 6 and want to join a team where you'll feel supported, challenged, and valued? Either way, you could feel right at home in our busy and brilliant Emergency Department here at Queens Hospital. We're one of the busiest EDs in the region, seeing around 300 patients every day across Majors, Resus, RAFT, Triage, and SDEC. It's demanding, unpredictable, and no two shifts are the same -- but you'll never be alone. Our Senior Nurses are incredibly hands-on, compassionate leaders who take real pride in supporting, developing, and being visible for their team. You'll also benefit from, University-linked postgraduate study and specialist ED in-house training days. As a Junior Sister / Charge Nurse, you'll lead by example to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality individualised care to patients with a wide range of needs in a fast-paced emergency setting. Your responsibilities will include the management of patient flow, supervising and supporting both qualified and unqualified staff, facilitating education and development and acting as a shift leader in the absence of a Charge Nurse. You'll need to be triage-competent (or working towards it), have an emergency care qualification and bring previous ED experience at Band 5 or above at a minimum of two years. In return, we'll support you to continue growing -- clinically and as a leader.
Main duties of the job
To provide safe, efficient and high-quality individualised care to clients across a wide range of specialities within the Emergency Department. Provide primary education, health advice and promotion to constitute a safe effective discharge to enable client self-care on discharge. To supervise & facilitate the education, training and development needs of both registered, unregistered staff and students. Ensure all care is inclusive, equitable and is provided within the Trust and Local Unit Policies.
About us
We're an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we're proud of and our patients are happy with.
They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
We operate from two main sites - KGH in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We're campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen's and get rid of corridor care.
We're proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We're also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
We run a Women's Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The majority of our 8,400 staff - who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We're proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
