Job summary
As a Healthcare Assistant at Pilgrims Hospices, you will play a key part in delivering compassionate, holistic care to patients with life limiting illnesses, supporting their comfort, dignity and wellbeing in a warm, collaborative environment.
Working as part of a large multidisciplinary team, you will assist with personal care, emotional support and daily activities that help patients live well, while building meaningful connections with families and colleagues. This role will be based at our Ashford Hospice. Full and part time hours are available with variable shift work from Monday to Sunday including days and nights.
Main duties of the job
- Working under the direct supervision of the registered nurse administers as directed in the patients care plan, nursing care to patients in order to meet their fundamental health care needs
- Assisting patients with personal care whilst maintaining privacy and dignity at all times
- Assisting patients to eat and or drink as independently as possible
- Undertaking some tasks independently without direction and supervision i.e. making beds and cleaning of equipment
- Maintaining accurate records at the point of care using the hospices electronic record and reports relevant information directly to the registered nurse
- Using and storing all equipment safely and correctly in accordance with Hospice and manufacturers instructions
- Attending mandatory training
- Ensuring patient's safety at all times and that any care given is in line with training received and follows either verbal direction from a registered nurse or is directed via written nursing care plans or multidisciplinary goal setting sheets
- Assisting in transferring deceased patients to the relevant areas in the hospice setting
- Assisting in giving the deceased last offices respecting their spiritual, cultural and religious needs

Job description
Job responsibilities
The post holder will assist the trained nurses in ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care in a safe and pleasant environment. Working as a member of a designated nursing team the HCA will deliver elements of care safely under the supervision of a trained nurse, treating patients with respect, dignity and kindness, valuing individuality and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
In order to be considered you must have NVQ Level II Care Certificate or equivalent.
Clinical and Professional Responsibilities
- Working under the direct supervision of the registered nurse administers as directed in the patients care plan, basic nursing care to patients in order to meet their fundamental health care needs. This will include nursing duties such as assisting patients to the toilet, washing and bathing, assisting patients to eat and or drink as independently as possible.
- Assist patients with personal care whilst maintaining privacy and dignity at all times
- To be responsible for undertaking some tasks independently without direction and supervision. This will include activities such as making beds and cleaning of equipment.
- Makes accurate records at the point of care using the hospices electronic record and reports relevant information directly to the registered nurse.
- To use and store all equipment safely and correctly in accordance with Hospice and manufacturers instructions, including cleaning of equipment and ensuring batteries in equipment are fully charged, ensuring safety for both patients and staff.
- To attend mandatory training and updates. - Actively participate in the prevention of cross infection, understanding and adopting into practice the principles of infection control in accordance with hospice policy. In addition will assist in the monitoring, storing, and disposal of equipment and hazardous materials in accordance with health and safety guidelines. This will include safe disposal of sharps and soiled linen
- To be responsible for reporting any incident or near miss immediately to the nurse in charge of the ward.

Pilgrims Hospice provides expert palliative care to the people of East Kent. We have three in patient units at Ashford, Canterbury and Margate where our three multi-disciplinary community teams are based as well as our therapy centres.
An opportunity has arisen in our medical team and Pilgrims is inviting applications for interested physicians. This would be ideal for experienced doctors thinking of a change in career, doctors with a view to building a career in this speciality or have a wealth of experience within palliative medicine.
We have an active educational programme and as a training unit for specialist and general practice trainees can offer some excellent opportunities to develop skills and gain experience.
The post will be based at Ashford but flexibility on sites can be considered. This post is available from 2nd January 2026, subject to pre-employment checks and is part time 7 sessions a week (3 full days plus 4 sessions a month dedicated to education and research). Requests for full time employment will be considered.
Main duties of the job
- To provide clinical care and medical input to the multidisciplinary team for patients under the care of the Pilgrims Hospice, under the supervision of the named consultant (including hospice inpatients, community patients, outpatients, domiciliary visiting and patients attending Pilgrims Therapy Centre).
- To participate in the teaching, supervision and training of medical trainees and other professional staff working at the Pilgrims Hospice or attending courses run by the Pilgrims Hospices.
- To maintain a full programme of personal CPD in line with current recommendations. Please refer to the Hospice study leave policy
- To participate in annual appraisal and to work to the stated strategic direction and objectives of Pilgrims Hospices in East Kent.
- To undertake administrative tasks in support of the activity of the organisation.

Job summary
The post holder will assist the trained nurses in ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care in a safe and pleasant environment. Working as a member of a designated nursing team the HCA will deliver elements of care safely under the supervision of a trained nurse, treating patients with respect, dignity and kindness, valuing individuality and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of the registered nurse administers as directed in the patients care plan, nursing care to patients in order to meet their fundamental health care needs. Job summary
Pilgrims Hospices is looking for an experienced, friendly and reliable Clinical Skills Facilitator to join our team.
The main purpose of this role is to enhance the quality of patient care by developing the clinical competence, confidence and capability of staff across Pilgrims Hospices.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in collaboration with the Clinical Quality and Education Lead, the Clinical Skills Facilitator will support the design, delivery and evaluation of education, training and competency programmes, ensuring learning is translated into day-to-day clinical practice.
The post holder will maintain a visible presence within clinical services and spend a minimum of two days each month working directly alongside clinical teams, providing coaching, competency assessment, clinical support and practice development.
