Job Title: Health Care Assistant Levels 2 and 3
Department: Specialist Nursing Home
Salary range:£28,939 - £30,688 per annum (dependant on NVQ Qualification and experience)
Hours of work:150 hours over a 4 week period (approximately 37.5 hours per week).
Contract Type: Full time or part time, rotating day and night shifts
We currently have exciting opportunities to join our Specialist Nursing Home wards at RHN as Health Care Assistants.
We provide high-quality, person-centred support tailored to each individuals needs, including complex clinical care, alongside assistance with communication, behavioural support, and daily living. Our focus is on promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life within a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. We also work closely with residents families, offering ongoing support, guidance, and reassurance.
You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, working closely with our residents to support all aspects of daily living, including personal care, while promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing.
This role requires a strong understanding of person-centred care, the ability to respond to complex health needs, and a compassionate and patient approach. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
- To assist patients with all aspects of their personal hygiene care which will include; washing, bathing, dressing, continence and mouth care whilst enabling them to be as independent with these tasks as possible.
- To assist with mobility including; hoisting, positioning and assisting with mobility aids.
- To support patients with eating and drinking tasks, which may include the use of adapted feeding equipment, recording of food and fluid intake and feeding patients with an impaired swallow function.
- Responsible for providing proficient communication with patients and others in challenging situations, which may include supporting patients with complex communication needs and patients who present with behavioural/emotional challenges as a result of their brain injury.
- To participate fully in a 24 hour, 7 day week staff roster, including working Bank Holidays, as required by the needs of the service. Shift patterns may vary and include split days off. A high degree of flexibility is required.
- If working in a ventilation unit assisting patients requiring complex invasive mechanical ventilation support via a tracheostomy tube.

Your key responsibility is to deliver a high standard of professional clinical care to patients and residents of the hospital. You will provide support for and deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager.
The Specialist Nursing Home (SNH) service provides person-centred care for adults with complex neuro-disabilities and long-term health needs following brain injury. The service supports residents who may require ongoing care or a short stay while awaiting appropriate discharge to home or a placement closer to their local community.
Care is focused on long-term condition management, maintaining health and wellbeing, and promoting dignity and quality of life within a safe and supportive environment. You will be responsible for assessing residents needs and contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care plans, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to support both ongoing care and discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities
- You will work within agreed nursing standards and according to Nursing and Midwifery Council Code for nurses and be accountable for nursing outcomes.
- To provide consistent, clear, clinical and professional leadership and act as a mentor and preceptor for all staff demonstrating professional awareness and accountability in care.

Scope
The Domestic Services Department plays a vital role in support of the above by maintaining a pleasant, hygienic and comfortable environment for patients via the provision of high quality domestic services.
The department provides a cleaning service to wards, departments, communal areas and staff residences as well as providing an internal postal and a central wash up service. It employs approximately 45 members of staff through the combination of permanent, bank and agency domestic staff.
