This is an exciting new Consultant opportunity to join the Community Paediatric team in Great Western Hospital as a Community Paediatrician with a special interest in Safeguarding.
We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor who will be a proactive addition to our workforce, and who is interested in taking the service forward, with our close links with social care and police services as well as the acute paediatric services.
We need a Consultant Community Paediatrician who can work collaboratively within GWH and multi-disciplinary partners across Swindon and Wiltshire.
We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor who will be a proactive addition to our workforce, and who is interested in taking the service forward, with our close links with our hospital colleague's and tertiary centres in Bristol and Oxford.
We need a Consultant Community Paediatrician who can work collaboratively within GWH and multi-disciplinary partners across Swindon and Wiltshire.
Main duties of the job
Community Paediatrics is part of an integrated Paediatric Service. The team currently consists of 4 Consultants, 3 speciality doctors and 3 specialist nurse prescribers. We have a dedicated administrative team who provide excellent support for all aspects of the services we provide. This includes:
- Medical services to children looked after (CLA) and those going through adoption
- Medical support for children with Special Education Needs
- Assessment and support for children with neurodevelopmental needs and neurodisability.
- Supporting child protection assessment services
We work collaboratively with therapy and education partners from triage to joint planning for care. We undertake robust neurobehavioural assessment in a holistic manner, using tools such as QB tests and E-Conners as well as multidisciplinary social communication assessments. We run regular multisdisciplinary complex movement clinics as well as manage and review children with complex neurodisability and end of life care. For this purpose we work closely with acute epilepsy and respiratory services both in secondary and tertiary centres. We are an early adopter of paperless technologies to increase admin efficiency and reduce paperwork. We would support involvement in formal Quality Improvement projects to support and evidence improvements and as a department continually strive to enhance our service.

Job Purpose
To provide physiotherapy and FES to neurological patients, predominantly paediatrics, but also and adults, who have conditions including CP, stroke, MS, SCI, TBI, HSP and other upper motoneuron conditions under the care of the National Clinical FES Centre outpatient service. The service provides Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for clients with neurological impairment and includes the application of FES to assist walking and upper limb function as well as other specialist applications. Clients are primarily NHS funded with some privately funded patients. Working with the Specialist Physio Lead and Clinical Director, the successful candidate will develop and expand the paediatric FES service and promote the use of FES in paediatrics across the UK. There will also be opportunities to expand the evidence base for FES. Please note, that although the role will focus on paediatrics, treatment of some adult patients will also be required, particularly in the early stages of the role.
To deliver training and mentorship to FES clinicians through OML FES accreditation courses; conferences and exhibitions. To be an advocate for FES as a valuable adjunct in the management of children and young people with neurological conditions to optimise wellbeing, independence and quality of life.
To assist with the development and assessment of new FES techniques and bring them to the paediatric clinical service. To participate in ongoing research projects of OML.

We are seeking a qualified Mammographer with experience of working in a breast unit.
The role encompasses working both at the Breast Centre at The Great Western Hospital and on the service's two mobile units which travel around Wiltshire on a three year round plan.
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out routine breast screening and the more specialist mammographic examinations required in screening assessment clinics and symptomatic breast clinics. The post is that of a senior grade and so duties will encompass some managerial and supervisory tasks.
The post will be either full time (37.5 hours per week) or part time (in full days) as agreed with applicant, principally within 8.30-17.30 normal working hours but you will be expected to cover some limited evening and weekend work.
Main duties of the job
1. To independently assess each patient. Perform specialist mammography at the speed and technical skill level demanded by the service, adapting radiographic techniques according to the needs of the patient.
2. To work at a band 6 senior Radiographer level, taking responsibility for the smooth running of clinics and workload management.
3. To provide an excellent standard of care to women attending for mammography.
4. Be sufficiently informed and professionally competent to identify and address patients' information needs with respect to breast awareness and other health issues
5. To carry out discussion with the patient regarding clinical implications and outcomes. Deal appropriately with complex, sensitive or contentious information on a regular basis.
6. To assist the Radiologist with Ultrasound examinations and to take a lead role in patient care and clinical support during interventional procedures, including image guided biopsies in the assessment and symptomatic clinics.
7. To meet the psychological needs of anxious patients undergoing biopsies and carry out basic nursing procedures to dress puncture sites and give after-care advise

We are looking for a friendly, approachable and flexible person to join our centralised reception team, working on a rotational basis across outpatient reception areas within the Surgical Division. This is a busy and varied role and you'll be an important first point of contact for patients attending clinic. You'll welcome and assist patients, respond to telephone enquiries, support outpatient bookings and help provide a positive experience throughout their visit. You'll also prepare patient notes, update records following appointments and support the smooth running of clinics. Accurate bookings, information and clinic arrangements are essential to helping patients move smoothly through their care pathway. We're looking for someone with excellent communication and customer service skills who enjoys working with the public and can remain calm and organised in a busy environment. Previous receptionist or customer-facing experience is essential; healthcare experience is desirable. Flexibility is important as you'll work across different reception areas to meet service needs. Our busy 16-bedded unit provides rapid assessment, treatment and ongoing care for patients requiring acute surgical intervention. Alongside the ward, we operate a Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, enabling patients to receive timely assessment, investigation and treatment without the need for an overnight stay whenever appropriate. Main duties of the job
- To act as a key worker; delivering evidence based, personalised care through holistic assessment, care planning and evaluation of care through the running of nurse-led clinics for patients from diagnosis, through treatment and follow up. This might be via a clinic, inpatient or remote follow up setting.
- To work at an enhanced level to plan and provide clinical care and psychological support to patients with a cancer diagnosis who have complex needs.
- To use holistic assessment to deliver and maintain high standards of care within a multi-disciplinary team. (MDT)
- To provide holistic care for patients at all stages of their cancer pathway, delivering a high standard of person-centred care, supporting a culture of supported self-management.
- To provide specialised advice to patients and their carers in relation to a cancer diagnosis and its treatment.

Main duties of the job
Working across General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology and TS you will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary teams to support children and young people with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, contributing psychological expertise in outpatient and inpatient settings and providing psychological care from diagnosis onwards.
The role offers excellent opportunities to influence service development and innovation. You will provide consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues, deliver teaching and training, supervise trainee and assistant psychologists, and support psychologically informed care across children's services.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about providing and improving the psychological wellbeing of children and young people living with physical health conditions; has excellent assessment, formulation and intervention skills with children, young people and families and enjoys working collaboratively within multidisciplinary medical teams, while also able to work independently.

In this rewarding and varied role, you will play a vital part in ensuring patients receive a safe, efficient and positive experience throughout their imaging journey. Working closely with radiographers, radiologists and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will support the delivery of a wide range of diagnostic imaging services while providing excellent care and reassurance to patients.
As a member of the support team, you will combine hands-on patient care with administrative, technical and procedural responsibilities. You will assist with imaging examinations, manage and prepare equipment, support the effective use of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and help maintain smooth day-to-day department operations.
You will be confident working independently within established protocols, using your judgement and initiative to prioritise tasks and respond to patient and service needs. Your knowledge of imaging examinations and procedures will enable you to answer patient queries, support colleagues and contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred service.
Main duties of the job
Undertake initial patient identification and screening checks, escalating any concerns.
Assist with patient transfers, positioning and manual handling.
Support vulnerable patients and those with additional needs.
Prepare examination rooms and set up equipment for complex and interventional procedures.
Assist practitioners with aseptic and clean techniques.
Check emergency equipment availability and functionality.
Clear and decontaminate equipment after procedures.

Come and make a real difference by joining our dedicated nursing team on the Medlock Unit, based within the brand-new Dyson Cancer Centre at the RUH.
We are looking for a kind, compassionate and motivated nurse to join our passionate, highly skilled multi-professional team. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine interest in developing or enhancing their competency in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT).
Within the Medlock Unit, you will have the opportunity to broaden your skills and knowledge while supporting patients receiving SACT and other supportive treatments in an acute cancer setting. You will receive a tailored induction programme, including visits to adjacent areas within the department, followed by completion of the SACT Competency Passport within six months.
We are committed to supporting your ongoing development. Once established in post, you will be encouraged to shape your career direction, with a range of Cancer Care qualifications available to support both your professional progression and the evolving needs of the service.
As our service expands into the community, the role will also include working at Frome Community Hospital when required. Staff will travel from the RUH to the satellite unit at Frome Medical Practice using a Trust fleet car, with travel time paid to support fairness and work-life balance.

Job summary
The Anticoagulant Clinical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for providing a Nurse/Pharmacist Led Anticoagulation Service offering advice and expertise within the area of Anticoagulation and also providing a dosing service for all oral anticoagulants for outpatients. Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join Great Western Hospital as a Biomedical Support Worker.
You will part of the Cellular Pathology team involved in the technical preparation of specimens and performing defined procedures in accordance with standard operating procedures. This will include all aspects of the routine service provided by the department.
Main duties of the job
- Reception of specimens. Reception includes collection of specimens from pathology reception, data matching between specimen containers and request forms, coding samples, sorting into the correct work stream, and identification of specimens which must be rejected. Rejected samples must be resolved and logged.
- Set up, and clean down of dissection area, ensuring all required equipment/consumables are available and correct cleaning/disinfection methods are used. May involve some exposure to sharps (e.g. scalpel blades, dissection knives).
- Assist with the process of specimen dissection. This involves writing medical dictation for occasionally long periods of time, and checking patient and specimen identification.
- Responsibility for specimen storage and disposal. Store specimens awaiting disposal correctly, following departmental protocol. Identification of specimens ready for disposal. Disposal of specimens in a safe manner, including those requiring non-standard disposal (e.g. POCs).
- Embedding processed tissue. This involves correctly orientating tissue in order to ensure subsequent diagnostic processes are able to be completed accurately.
