An opportunity has opened in the Employee Relations Team at Hillingdon Hospital. The Employee Relations Advisor will advise managers across two divisions alongside the HR Business Partners, Unplanned Care and Estates and Facilities for someone who understands the challenges of working with a large caseload.

The role will work between Mount Vernon and Hillingdon Hospital.

The post will support patients undergoing ultrasound and radiographic examinations, assist procedures when necessary, and ensure health and safety and infection control is adhered to.

As a Clinical Imaging Assistant, you will help to prepare and reassure patients prior to and during their procedures. You will need good communication, interpersonal, and organisations skills. You should be someone who is caring, reassuring, and calm in how you approach your work. The contracted hours are Full Time 37.5 hours per week across seven days. You will be on a shift rota at our Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

o To provide support to the Imaging service, undertaking patient registration, workload management and assisting in the clinical environment to provide optimum patient care.

o To provide support to consultant radiologists, radiographers, sonographers with patient care and ensuring being a chaperone in clinical environment providing optimum patient care.

o To perform IV cannulation for patients undergoing contrast-enhanced imaging procedures (CT, MRI, NM) following Trust training and competency sign-off.

o To set up trolleys for imaging procedures both sterile and non-sterile, using guidelines given.

o To assist the Radiologists & Radiographers in specialist sessions taking responsibility for patient care throughout the examination by observing and assisting and comforting when necessary.

To deal with verbal and telephone requests

o To assist effectively with patients in a variety of environments i.e. multiple trauma cases, ultrasound, theatre, fluoroscopy suites, mammography and to maintain a professional demeanour in potentially distressing circumstances.

o To maintain stock levels, when necessary, within the imaging department from the imaging stores.

o At times may need to undertake reception, clerical and other support duties.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trust as an Ultrasound Modality Lead Sonographer. We are recruiting for a Band 8A Lead sonographer post, based across both our Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites. Post holders will be responsible for leading the Ultrasound department and managing its day-to-day operations in the absence of senior management.

The successful candidates will have extensive experience across a wide range of ultrasound modalities, including obstetrics, gynaecology, vascular, and non-obstetric/general medical ultrasound. You will have a proven track record of teaching and mentoring students and staff. The role includes maintaining a clinical workload, performing ultrasound lists at an advanced practitioner level, act as practice educator to trainee and newly qualified sonographers and making clinical judgements based on the assessment and interpretation of ultrasound findings, including complex cases.

The post holders will be expected to lead non-obstetrics ultrasound and provide cross-cover for obstetric ultrasound services, working collaboratively across the Trust to support consistent, high-quality patient care in all ultrasound areas.

Background

This SHO post is for 6 months from 07/10/26 - 06/04/27 and is part of a 12 people SHO team who work on a 12 weeks rotation schedule throughout various clinical activities such as ward cover, on call days and nights, trauma and other clinical activities. At present this post does not have educational approval. It is however a position in accordance with recent college guidelines on extending the length of basic surgical training to three years. It will be most suited to a trainee who is working towards obtaining BST and MRCS and also needs more overall surgical/orthopaedic experience before applying for a research or registrar position.

THE WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Hillingdon Trauma & Orthopaedic department is run by 15 Consultants. 13 of these run the trauma service over a 15 week rolling rota. On their non-trauma weeks, they run an elective service alongside the remaining 2 consultants. There is a 30 bedded Orthopaedic Ward currently catering emergency patients at Hillingdon. A short-stay Orthopaedic speciality ward at Mount Vernon Hospital is part of the department, catering only for elective patients. There is also a Day Case surgical unit on each of the two hospitals to which all Consultants have access with other specialities. There are beds as required on a separate paediatric unit.

There is a wide range of general elective orthopaedics undertaken, the Consultants covering most of the elective orthopaedic sub specialities. For trauma, each Consultant's 'take' is for one week at a time. There is a daily morning x-ray conference followed by a trauma round and then a new patient fracture clinic. In the afternoon there is also an all-day operating list for trauma patients that have been admitted. This provides an excellent opportunity for teaching and experience. The department is fully equipped for modern trauma management.

To work at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a

General Lead Radiographer (Core Services) working at both Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals.

The post holder will be responsible for the daily operational function of the plain film service on both sites, ensuring all areas are adequately staffed.

They will be a role model for the radiographic staff providing clinical leadership, promoting the development and maintenance of high quality standards in addition to managerial responsibilities within the modality.

Deputise in the absence of Radiology Operations Manager and or Head of Radiology.

The Plain Film Service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with core hours between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday. The service is staffed by means of a shift system.
