STSFT is seeking a motivated individual to join the team from as a Trust Doctor working at Registrar level at this major Arterial Centre. The post holder will have experience equivalent to that of ST3-6 trainee who wishes to train further in a broad range of vascular and endovascular surgery.

The Unit specialises in surgeon-led/delivered endovascular (percutaneous & hybrid) care, aortic surgery, carotid endarterectomy, lower limb reconstruction and complex venous work. Active participation is expected in the departmental meetings, rota management and departmental junior doctor teaching programmes. Clinical audit projects are actively encouraged in the department, whilst participation in clinical governance and morbidity & mortality meetings is mandatory.

The successful applicant will participate in an on-call rota (1:6) which supports the vascular service exclusively. There will be no on-call commitment to General Surgery. This post represents an excellent opportunity for a junior surgical trainee to gain experience in a large acute hospital with contemporary tertiary vascular emergency and elective practice. This post will be based predominantly at Sunderland Royal Hospital vascular hub, although provision of some clinic and day-case activity may be required at South Tyneside Hospital, Bishop Auckland Hospital, University Hospital of North Durham and Durham Treatment Centre.

This post is not recognised for training purposes by the Postgraduate Deanery.

This is initially a fixed term appointment for 12 months. The successful applicant will work a 1 in 6 vascular on-call with no commitment to General Surgery.

There will be opportunities to perform research and to learn endovascular techniques as well as routine open vascular surgery. The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in the supervision and training of Specialist Registrars, Foundation year doctors, and Dental Core trainees. The post holder is expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive hospital Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service, achieving compliance with 18 weeks and other targets set by the Trust and nationally.

Clinical DutiesThe post-holder will have responsibility for general plastic surgery services at the John Radcliffe Hospital, alongside participation in the on-call rota (currently 1 in 14) and will complement an established team of ten Plastic Surgeons with responsibility for skin oncology.The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery provides a comprehensive reconstructive service to Oxford and the surrounding region. The service is consultant-led. Current consultantdelivered services include trauma and reconstructive surgery, craniofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate, upper limb surgery, bone infection, sarcoma, breast reconstruction, skin cancer, autologous tissue transplantation, head and neck cancer reconstruction, and hypospadias. The department currently holds Burn Facility status within the London and South-East Burn Network. We are fortunate to have co-located facilities within a modern building on the John Radcliffe Hospital site, including offices, outpatient clinics, theatres, adult and paediatric wards, and day case units. The Head and Neck Unit is based within the Cancer Centre at the nearby Churchill Hospital. The department also has a significant presence at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC), where the plastic surgery team contributes to hand surgery, and provides reconstructive support to both the Bone Infection Unit and Sarcoma services.
