Main duties of the job
As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive ward-based pharmacy service across inpatient mental health units. Key responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking medicines reconciliation for newly admitted patients to ensure accurate medication records.
- Assessing patients' own medicines for suitability and safe re-use in accordance with Trust policies.
- Ordering, supplying and managing medicines required for individual patients and ward stock.
- Supporting patients and carers by providing information and advice regarding their medicines.
- Working collaboratively with nursing, medical and pharmacy colleagues to promote medicines optimisation and improve patient outcomes.
- Contributing to discharge planning, including assessing patients' own medicines and ensuring appropriate medication supplies are available.
- Undertaking technical accuracy checking duties where accredited and authorised.
- Supporting the safe storage, handling and administration of medicines within inpatient areas.
- Participating in service development, audit activities and quality improvement initiatives to enhance pharmacy services.
Applicants should be proactive, organised and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. You should have post-qualification experience in a ward-based pharmacy environment and either hold, or be working towards, an accredited Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.

This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with nationally and internationally recognised experts in cancer and palliative care. You'll help deliver cutting-edge treatments, including ATMPs, CAR-T, HSCT, while also contributing to services at 1 of only 5 bone and soft tissue specialist centres in England.
Our pharmacist prescribers work closely with consultants and the wider MDT to review and prescribe SACTs, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care.
At OUH, as a major clinical trials centre, we are actively involved in both early and late phase research. We believe every pharmacist role should be research-active, and support your pursuit of opportunities, including the chance to work towards a PhD.

Main duties of the job
Key roles include:
- Delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care to adult cancer in-patients, day-case, and out-patients.
- Participation in pharmacy services to the Day Treatment Unit to optimise patients' understanding towards medications and reduce medicines wastage.
- Clinically screening and checking of systemic anticancer treatments (SACTs), SACT clinical trial treatments and supportive medication prescriptions.
- Participating in multidisciplinary meeting and ward rounds
- Pharmacist led oral anti-cancer treatment education clinics
