About us
Whittington Health serves a richly diverse population and works hard to ensure that all our services are fair and equally accessible to everyone. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the way we look after our staff. We aim to employ a workforce which is as representative as possible of this population, so we are open to the value of differences in age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, and religion or belief. The Trust believes that as a public sector organisation we have an obligation to have recruitment, training, promotion and other formal employment policies and procedures that are sensitive to these differences. We think that by doing so, we are better able to treat our patients as well as being a better place to work.

We are a highly vibrant organisation with some of the highest levels of staff retention of any major employer in the country and our staff consistently rate us as a safe and supportive place to work. Treating our staff well is at the heart of who we are as an employer and we provide first class salary packages including above average holiday entitlement and a wide range of flexible benefits.
The successful candidate will be an appropriately qualified and committed individual, with sufficient relevant financial experience, as outlined in the person specification. Spreadsheet skills and experience of electronic financial ledgers, treasury/cash book management, governance arrangements and reporting systems are fundamental to the role. The ability to balance and prioritise competing work deadlines will be critical.
The post requires good technical competence combined with the ability to communicate effectively. In return, the post offers a breadth of financial accounting and governance experience and will be a perfect fit for a self-motivated individual seeking a challenge and who wants to make a difference in the NHS.
Main duties of the job
We spend around £1.6billion each year to provide over two million patient episodes, and it is essential that we have the best team helping and supporting us in being the best organisation we can possibly be. To help us do this we are now seeking a Senior Financial Accounting Officer within the Financial Accounting and Governance team.
The candidate will work closely with a friendly and supportive team as well as clinical and corporate colleagues to support a first-class Finance team to ensure we provide the best possible care to patients and deliver the best value for money for the people of Sheffield, South Yorkshire and beyond. Candidates must possess excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Strong IT skills, along with relevant experience of treasury management and financial ledgers are fundamental to the role, as is a strong customer service focus.
About us
We are committed to recruiting and developing a diverse pool of talented people who want to be part of making STH a thriving and PROUD* place to work and ensuring we continue to flourish and succeed in improving the lives of the people we are proud to serve. If we sound like the kind of organisation you would like to work in, we would be delighted to speak to you about this role.
You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Job summary
We're looking for a Patient Coordinator to be the first face patients see when they walk through our doors. This is a hands-on, front-of-house role - You wont be answering phones, that is handled centrally. Instead, you'll be out at the front of the waiting area, greeting patients as they arrive, checking them in for their appointment, and taking their vitals to help prepare them to see the clinician.
Patients don't always arrive at their best - they may be unwell, anxious or worried. You'll be the calm, reassuring presence that helps them feel looked after from the moment they step inside, while making sure their information and observations are accurate and ready for the clinical team.
No previous clinical experience is required - full training is provided. What matters most is that you're someone who genuinely enjoys being with people, stays calm under pressure, and takes pride in getting the small things right.
Main duties of the job
- Stand at the front of the practice to greet patients and visitors in person as they arrive - this is an active, on-your-feet role
- Move between the entrance, waiting area and observation space to check patients in for their appointments face-to-face
- Take and record patient vitals and observations ahead of their consultation
- Prepare patients for their appointment, ensuring the clinician has accurate, up-to-date information
- Support safe and smooth patient flow through the practice
- Use empathy and de-escalation skills to support patients who are anxious, unwell or upset
- Keep the observation and waiting areas clean, safe and welcoming
- Escalate urgent in-person concerns to the clinical team when needed
About us
