This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a countywide service providing timely advice, telephone triage, symptom management guidance, reassurance and care coordination for patients in their last year of life, their families, carers, care homes and professionals.
The role would involve supporting timely answering of urgent telephone enquiries, recording data and information and supporting the triage clinician in the smooth running and development of this new service.
Working as part of an integrated model with SPA, Evening and Night Nursing, Neighbourhood Teams and Specialist Palliative Care services, you will help people remain in their preferred place of care and reduce avoidable crisis escalation and hospital admission.

The role will involve liaising with colleagues, service users and external contacts in a professional and helpful manner, while ensuring confidentiality and attention to detail at all times.
You will need to manage and prioritise your own workload, use initiative, and work flexibly as part of a supportive team, providing cover during busy periods or staff absence where required.

Job description
Job responsibilities
This substantive Consultant Neurologist post is based across Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. Outpatient and administrative work will be primarily based at Sandwell Health Campus and the Birmingham Treatment Centre (BTC), with inpatient responsibilities at the newly opened Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH).
The Trust is currently undergoing service reconfiguration in line with the Right Care Right Here programme. Consequently, the postholder may be required to work across any of the Trust's sites to support service delivery as models of care evolve.
The Neurology Directorate is a vital component of the Group of Medicine and Emergency Care and is undergoing exciting developments. Future priorities include embedding new technologies and treatments in Neurology and Neurophysiology and working collaboratively to ensure national standards and performance targets are met.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the shared care of patients in the Neurosciences Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham with whom we have a close working relationship. All Consultants within our team currently participate in a weekly neuroscience MDT meeting as part of our collaborative working with regional partners.
We are particularly interested in appointing a consultant with a sub-specialty interest that complements our existing service. Interests in Epilepsy are desirable, but we welcome candidates with expertise in any area that will support future service development.
