Job summary
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced ambulance professional to move beyond frontline delivery and help shape the future of urgent and emergency care across our communities.
Building strong relationships with the Ambulance Trust, operational leaders and system partners across the South West, you will play a pivotal role in the commissioning, development and improvement of ambulance services. Drawing on your clinical and operational experience, you will help shape service models, influence strategic decisions and support the delivery of safe, high-quality care that meets the needs of local populations.
Working collaboratively with Integrated Care Systems and wider health and care partners, you will improve integration across urgent and emergency care pathways, drive service transformation and deliver better outcomes for patients. Your frontline insight will help develop innovative approaches to care and ensure services remain responsive, effective and sustainable.
This is an exciting time to join us. As Integrated Care Boards evolve into strategic commissioning organisations, you will have the opportunity to influence change at scale, champion new models of care and help shape services that make a real difference to patients, communities and the wider health and care system.
If you are passionate about improving services, leading change and making a lasting impact, we'd love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
This role focuses on collaboration, partnership working and service improvement across the urgent and emergency care system. Working closely with the Ambulance Trust and system partners, the postholder will support the commissioning, performance management and continuous improvement of ambulance services, while contributing to the delivery of the ICB's ambulance commissioning strategy
Using ambulance service expertise and operational insight, they will identify opportunities for improvement, develop innovative solutions and support the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality care. The role requires strong stakeholder engagement, influencing skills and the ability to coordinate programmes of work across organisational boundaries
Key responsibilities include supporting commissioning plans, monitoring performance and quality, analysing data and contributing to improved care pathways. Working collaboratively with ambulance services, NHS 111, acute, community and mental health partners, the postholder will strengthen integration, improve patient flow and deliver better outcomes
Working within a team of teams approach, they will build effective relationships across organisations and professions, lead projects, provide specialist advice and support strategic decision-making. The role also includes supporting resilience and surge planning, ensuring services remain responsive to local needs, deliver value for money, reduce health inequalities and improve population outcomes
About us
Under the Model ICB Blueprint and the 10 Year Health Plan, ICBs will adopt a more strategic commissioning role, focusing on population needs, reducing inequalities, and delivering the three shifts as defined in the 10 year health plan, all while operating within strict financial limits.
The new organisation will operate on a larger scale with a revised vision and purpose, managing a commissioning budget of around £8 billion. Our role as a strategic commissioner is to transform our local NHS through exceptional commissioning and build an innovative health system fit for the 21st century that truly meets our communities needs. Informed by high quality data and insights, we will radically re-imagine how we operate, making sure that every pound in our system delivers the best possible value for everyone we serve.
We will encourage and support our people to grow and develop new skills and embrace new agile ways of working. Everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas, seek feedback, and take part in creating a listening and learning culture where insight leads to improvement.
