Job summary
Consultant Psychiatrist (General Adult) and Honorary Research Fellow
We are excited to launch the recruitment to this new post, jointly developed by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Cumbria. The post holder will spend 6 PAs per week working with the General Adult Home Based Treatment Team (HbTT), based in Kendal and 4 PAs working as an Honorary Research Fellow at The University of Cumbria as part of the Mental Health Leaders Award. This would be based at the Lancaster Campus of the University of Cumbria.
The contract for the clinical role with LSCft would be permanent. The Honorary Research Fellow element would be fixed term until the end of February 2029, since that is dependent on funding.
As part of the clinical role, the postholder would be expected to contribute to the out of hours On Call rota, for which additional remuneration would be paid.
Main duties of the job
The clinical element of the role would be with the well-established Kendal HbTT and you would work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide a service for those living in the Kendal area. The main duties would involve outpatient clinics for both new referrals and ongoing reviews. You would be expected to lead the MDT and provide supervision to the Resident Doctors working with the team.
The University of Cumbria Mental Health Leaders Award (MHLA) is a £2.5mn NIHR funded research grant, aimed at building capacity and capability around applied mental health and inequalities research at the University of Cumbria. You will be contributing to the aim of the MHLA, to increase our understanding of what the research priorities around mental health and inequalities in Cumbria are, and develop the infrastructure to deliver this research. This part of the post will be based with the MHLA operational team at University's Lancaster Campus. You will be expected to be on site 1 day per week.
Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be included on the Specialist register of the GMC or they should be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.
It is a requirement that applicants are Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment and have or are eligible to have Approved Clinician Status. Remuneration will be as set out in the terms of the New Consultant Contract according to previous experience.
About us
The role:
At least 2.5 SPAs as standard for a full time post (we would be flexible in looking at enhancements to support other activities that support the wider ambitions of the Trust).
Excellent peer support group
Study leave budget of £3000 over 3 years or up to £5000 over 3 years for newly qualified Consultants
Opportunities to be a clinical supervisor
Relocation package available.
At our Trust, we're really keen to develop our Consultant workforce and nurture their areas of interest in a flexible way where possible. Come and have a chat with us about what your special interest or development area and build a suitable job plan with us. We also have an extremely active Medical Education department and support our Consultants in becoming Clinical & Educational Supervisors and nurturing their interests in this area. There are also opportunities to have a role in Digital Leadership if this is a passion for any of our Consultants.
