Job summary
North East London is one of the most diverse and fastest-growing areas in the country, with significant health inequalities and changing needs driven by population growth and an ageing population. NEL ICB's strategic commissioning role is to understand those needs and direct resources where they will make the greatest difference, and high-quality population health analysis sits at the heart of that work.
The Intelligence and Insights function is a dynamic team of analysts driven by a shared purpose: improving the health of our local population. We build a clear picture of population need, health inequalities and service utilisation, and identify opportunities to improve outcomes, quality and productivity. Our analysis informs commissioning decisions at every level, from NEL-wide strategy to specific providers, pathways, services, places and neighbourhoods.
Underpinning this is a mature cloud data platform in Snowflake, providing a rich, linked healthcare dataset to ICB analysts and partners. There are two posts in the structure, one already filled, available following the transition of the original dedicated NEL ICB team to the One London hosted service, and you will work closely with One London colleagues as part of a wider regional network.
Main duties of the job
As one of two BI Developer and Platform Managers, reporting to the Director of Intelligence and Insights, you will take ownership of the NEL ICB Snowflake sandpit. You will manage and optimise the environment, loading, transforming and extracting data, building scalable models and pipelines using dbt and SQL, and applying IG-compliant security roles so the right people have safe access to the right data.
You will create and maintain our portfolio of BI outputs, from interactive Power BI and Excel dashboards to public-facing R Shiny and R Markdown outputs and take on the running and development of our population segmentation models, which help us target support to groups with similar needs.
Our analysts use Python, R, Excel and Snowsight, and your knowledge of our datasets will be central to supporting their work, enabling data science and shaping optimised data schemas.
This is an opportunity for a data engineer, data analyst or warehouse manager to lead a function that is the foundation for evidence-based decision making across North East London. You will work with stakeholders at all levels of the ICB and with external partners including One London, Public Health, provider trusts, local authorities, other ICBs and NHS England.
If you want your technical skills to make a real difference to people's health, we would love to hear from you.
About us
NHS North East London Integrated Care Board (ICB) was formed on 1 July 2022.
We are an exciting new organisation putting the needs of communities at the heart of our commissioning arrangements.
We are working with local people and partners across health, social care and the voluntary sector in innovative ways to improve health and wellbeing for all our communities. Our key priority in the next year will be to develop closer integrated and collaborative ways of working with all our partners to implement our Out of Hospital Strategy.
We can only do this with great staff who are encouraged and supported, which is why we invest in them, listen to them, make sure we are representative of our populations and that we foster their health and wellbeing.
Please note that all vacancies will be subject to a probation period in line with the Probation Policy.
