Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Research Governance Manager, with experience of working at a regional level, to join the Research and Innovation Directorate (R&I) at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM). This senior role will provide regional leadership, co-ordination, and standardisation of research governance processes across the North Midlands, directly addressing critical bottlenecks in commercial and non-commercial study set-up. This role will play a key part in supporting centres at different stages of research sponsorship development by strengthening their research governance, monitoring, auditing, and oversight frameworks. Through targeted guidance, the role will ensure consistent standards across all areas and provide the necessary support to achieve and maintain MHRA readiness. You will reduce unwarranted variation, and support delivery of the 150-day research study set-up target.
Main duties of the job
The role will be instrumental in transforming future healthcare and improving outcomes through research evidence - both for our Trust and across the region. With NIHR infrastructure funding and the opening of our Commercial Research Delivery Centre in April 2025, this is an exciting time to join the UHNM R&I Directorate as we push the boundaries of clinical research to benefit patients.
We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Research Governance Manager with extensive experience, particularly with experience of working across multiple sites/regionally.
This is your opportunity to take on a strategic leadership role within the UHNM Research and Innovation Directorate, playing a pivotal part in the delivery of a governance service, regionally, that leads to tangible improvements in patient-centred research.
If you are passionate about leading research governance, and supporting all regional organisations this is your opportunity to make a significant difference.
This is a 3 year fixed term position

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Spiritual Care Co-ordinator to join our compassionate team. This is a part-time role working 30 hours per week, based at our Hospice in Cambridge. We are happy to discuss working patterns at interview; however, the needs of the role require the successful candidate to work on Tuesdays.
As our Spiritual Care Co-ordinator, you will co-ordinate and provide spiritual, religious and pastoral care to patients, families, carers, volunteers and colleagues across our services. You will support patients approaching the end of life, undertake spiritual assessments and contribute to holistic care planning, helping us to respond sensitively to each persons individual religious, cultural and spiritual needs.
Main duties of the job
- Working as part of the PFST to facilitate reflective discussions and provide pastoral support.
- Co-ordinating volunteers and developing links with community organisations, including local faith groups.
- Facilitating prayers, blessings, rituals, memorial services and acts of worship when requested.
- Offering spiritual support to families and carers before and after a death.
- Arranging and conducting remembrance events, such as Light Up a Life and Sunflower Memories, as well as memorial services.
- Recruiting, training, supervising and supporting spiritual care and chaplaincy volunteers.
- Planning and delivering education and awareness sessions on spirituality, spiritual assessment, cultural competence, grief, bereavement and compassionate care.
To be successful in this role, you will have a good understanding of spirituality within palliative and end-of-life care, along with experience of providing spiritual, pastoral or chaplaincy support in a healthcare, hospice, community or faith setting.
You will hold a degree-level qualification in Theology, Religious Studies, Chaplaincy, Pastoral Care, Counselling, Healthcare, Social Care or a related field, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
You will also need experience of conducting significant life-event ceremonies, such as marriages, and of working within and co-ordinating multidisciplinary teams.
As the role involves travel within our hospice catchment area, you will need a valid driving licence.
About us
The Patient and Family Support Team (PFST) at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity provides practical and emotional support to patients and their families. This includes psychological and social support, spiritual care, counselling, and support both before and after bereavement.
There may occasionally be a need to work outside normal hours to support events. This will always be agreed in advance, and our time off in lieu (TOIL) system ensures that any additional hours are recognised.
Please note that this post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with Barred list checks included.
Please note that the salary quoted is based on full time hours and will be pro-ratad for part time posts. As a Charity with limited funds, it is usual practice for new starters to commence on the minimum of the salary band for the role. Exceptionally, and only for candidates demonstrating significant strengths relevant to the role, we may be able to negotiate on this.
We offer a range of benefits to our staff, including the option to retain membership to the NHS Pension scheme (subject to conditions.) Other benefits include:
- Generous annual leave entitlements
- Family friendly leave
- Access to lease car services
- Employee Assistance programmes
- Long Service Awards
- Discounts at our onsite bistro
- Access to free parking
- Ongoing training and development
