York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust View all jobs
Posted 12 hour(s) ago
Reference: 2452297
Job summary
We are pleased to offer two full-time posts with a focus on the breadth of the specialty while also ensuring that the candidates own special area of interest is supported. One of these posts sits within Head & Neck oncology team alongside our 2 Head & Neck Consultants and 1 within the skin cancer and/or complex dentoalveolar services.
We are delighted to invite candidates to apply to work with us in this dynamic and expanding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department in a beautiful area of North Yorkshire. Here at York and Scarborough NHS Trust we serve the impressive historic city itself but also cover the original seaside resort of Scarborough and the spa town of Harrogate.
We are a cohesive department with an excellent and well-established SAS grade team (7 members). We are also one of the first units to train OMFS Surgical Care Practitioners. The recent recruitment of 3 new Consultants means that in 2027 we will have a team of 5 substantive Consultants, alongside others employed on a fixed-term basis.
We offer excellent opportunities for career development, with sizeable skin, head and neck and orthognathic practices, working closely with other hospital teams and MDTs.
If you are interested in working with us, please get in touch as we'd love to meet you and discuss options. Part-time working will be considered.
Main duties of the job
Our department sits within the Head & Neck and Plastics Directorate, part of the Surgical Care Group. We provide Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) services to York and the whole of North Yorkshire, serving a population of around 850,000. Maxillofacial Surgeons work across York, Scarborough, Bridlington, Selby and Harrogate, with outpatient and day-case surgery provided at peripheral sites.
The Directorate includes Maxillofacial Surgery, ENT, Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Audiology and Plastics. In York, we have a dedicated outpatient setting and reception team, supported by an established managerial, administrative and secretarial team.
The Maxillofacial Surgery team undertakes a high volume of procedures for facial cutaneous malignancy. A well-established weekly Skin MDT is based in York and has close links with the Head and Neck MDT.
Our monthly Orthognathic MDT is run jointly with Orthodontics, supported by 3D planning and excellent laboratory provision. A well-established Joint Orthognathic Clinic is also based in York, with support from our Orthodontic Consultants.
OMFS Head & Neck Cancer is managed jointly with colleagues in Hull and Leeds, with local AHP, Restorative and CNS support. The Maxillofacial Surgery team provides a full ablative and reconstructive service as part of the Head & Neck MDT and works closely with YTHFT oculoplastic surgeons and Restorative and Dental consultants.
About us
We became a Foundation Trust on 1 April 2007, which led to significant changes to the overall governance of the organisation and increased the links to the local community through the appointment of governors and members.
We provide acute and community services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York and Scarborough, providing a range of specialist services over a wider catchment area across North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Rydale.
In April 2011 the Trust took over the management of some community based services in Selby, York, Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale. This includes some community nursing and specialist services as well as Archways in York, St Monica's in Easingwold, The New Selby War Memorial Hospital, Whitby Hospital and Malton Hospital.

If you are compassionate, enthusiastic, reliable and enjoy helping people achieve what they thought they couldn't, we'd love to hear from you.
