Job summary
As part of the expansion of Mental Health Support Teams nationwide, we are delighted that SABP was successful in obtaining further funding to expand our MHST across North East Hampshire (NEH). We therefore invite you to consider being involved in this exciting opportunity to help to deliver the government vision and commitment to developing integrated mental health teams in schools.
We currently have established teams in Aldershot and Rushmoor, which we are expanding. Successful candidates will be joining one of the existing teams based at Aldershot Centre for Health.
Main duties of the job
As a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) you will be expected to work under supervision as part of a dynamic integrated mental health team. In your trainee year, you will spend two days a week studying at University and three days on placement in schools. Over the course of the training year you will develop knowledge and practice skills to employ a range of evidence based interventions for mild to moderate mental health needs via direct individual and group support for children, young people and their parents, in line with the university expectations. This approach requires creativity, flexibility and adaptability, and above all a passion for working with children and young people in educational settings.
Successful candidates will apply to Southampton University for a place on the 1 year PG Dip in Education Mental Health Practice, starting in January 2027. It is a requirement for this role to complete and pass this course.
The Trainee EMHP posts are training positions and during this training period you will be employed as a Band 4. On successful completion of the course and qualification as an EMHP, employee's will have the opportunity to become permanent Band 5 EMHP's within their teams.

Job description
Job responsibilities
A key role in our next phase of expansion
This post will be onboarded ahead of a significant recruitment programme for our new MHSTs, and we are therefore particularly looking for someone with strong experience and knowledge of:
-
Recruitment and workforce mobilisation
-
HR and people management processes
-
Onboarding and induction of new staff
-
Supporting staff through periods of significant service growth and change
-
Operational and workforce planning
-
Complex project management
-
Building effective, supportive and high-performing teams
Experience of complex project management and managing major changes in service provision are essential requirements within the person specification, alongside effective leadership, staff and budget management, analytical skills and the ability to motivate teams through new challenges.
You will work closely with our recruitment and HR colleagues and the wider MHST leadership team to help ensure our new services have the right workforce in place, at the right time, with the right support around them.
Supporting our future EMHP workforce
A particularly important element of the role will be supporting our newly recruited EMHP trainees as they begin their journey within MHST.
You will help ensure that trainees and newly appointed colleagues receive a positive introduction to the service, have effective induction and support arrangements in place and feel part of both their individual MHST and the wider Essex MHST programme.
The Operational Manager is expected to ensure trainees are actively supported to meet their learning needs and to support new staff to integrate successfully into the team.
Welcoming new schools into MHST
As our teams expand, so will the number of education settings we work alongside.
Working collaboratively with the MHST leadership team, you will support the onboarding of new schools across North Chelmsford, Braintree and Tendring, building strong relationships with education partners and ensuring that expansion is well planned, coordinated and communicated.
Partnership working is fundamental to the role, with key relationships including education settings, primary care, local authorities, voluntary sector organisations and wider children's services.
What will you bring?
We are looking for an operational leader who is enthusiastic, organised, visible and comfortable working at pace.
You will need to be someone who can balance the immediate practicalities of recruitment and mobilisation with the longer-term task of building sustainable, high-quality teams.
You will bring:
-
Strong operational leadership and people management skills
-
Experience of recruitment, HR processes and workforce planning
-
Experience of managing substantial service development or change
-
Strong project management and mobilisation skills
-
Confidence managing staffing, performance, budgets and resources
-
An ability to build relationships across professional and organisational boundaries
-
A supportive leadership style, particularly when working with newly recruited and developing staff
-
Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
-
An understanding of mental health provision within schools and the wider children's mental health system
-
The ability to maintain momentum, manage competing priorities and turn plans into delivery.
The post also requires a professionally registered, post-graduate qualified psychological practitioner or graduate-qualified healthcare professional, alongside relevant management experience, as set out fully within the person specification.
You won't be doing this alone
Although this is a significant leadership role, you will be joining an already established and experienced Essex MHST service.
You will work alongside the Head of Service, Clinical Leads and a wider group of experienced MHST Operational Managers, providing an established leadership network with colleagues who understand the opportunities and challenges of growing MHST services.
This means you will have the opportunity to bring your own leadership experience and ideas while also benefiting from the knowledge, support and learning of managers who are already successfully leading MHSTs across Essex.
The role works particularly closely with the Head of Service and Locality Clinical Lead to ensure the effective day-to-day running of services, alongside responsibility for workforce planning, finance, staff in training, performance and longer-term sustainability.
Why join us?
This is an exciting opportunity to join MHST at a genuinely formative stage of our next phase of development.
You will have the opportunity not simply to manage an existing service, but to help build new teams, welcome new schools, support the development of our future EMHP workforce and shape how our expanding services operate from the very beginning.
If you are an enthusiastic and experienced operational leader who enjoys developing people, building services and turning ambitious plans into effective delivery, we would love to hear from you.

Job summary
North Devon Liaison Psychiatry Consultant Post 8PA Devon Partnership NHS Trust.
North Devon offers outstanding beaches, surfing, kitesurfing, outdoor swimming and excellent opportunities for riding and running. Dartmoor is close by, providing a stunning environment and a great place to raise children away from big city pressures.
The team is friendly, supportive and well regarded for staff retention and high quality clinical work. The hospital is small and easy to navigate, enabling strong relationships across clinical and managerial teams, with a caring and relaxed culture.
The post is well supported by local Psychiatric Consultants, regular team supervision, links with Liaison Teams across the county and close collaboration within the team. The service works a Core 15 model, with the medical component providing care 9am to 5pm to people admitted to inpatient wards or attending the Emergency Department.
The team also contributes to the Integrated Psychological Medicine Service with Talkworks (IAPT), Health Psychology and Medical and Surgical Specialties, developing pathways for people with functional and chronic conditions.
The multidisciplinary team includes Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Liaison Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists and Junior Doctors. We work in a selfcontained unit that supports excellent communication while remaining closely connected to the general and psychiatric hospital on the same site. Strong administrative support is in place.
Main duties of the job
The role is to provide Consultant leadership to a multidisciplinary Liaison Psychiatry service, with opportunities for development and clinical leadership in the Integrated Psychological Medicine Service.
The clinical work is highly variable which makes it challenging at times but very interesting. This service is currently for patients age 18+ and would fit with either General Adult, Older Adult or Liaison training experience.
Teaching, as with all liaison teams, is an essential part of the role both locally, regionally, within the hospital, within the team and with medical students and is a rewarding part of the post.
The post holder will be expected to engage in the service governance programme and service improvement projects. There is an active and supportive QI team in the Trust.
On calls are part of the post and whilst relatively frequent (1:7) they are not intense and mostly constitute telephone advice and infrequent MHA assessments.
The role is well supported by all levels of trainee medical staff and the post provides supervision to these trainees.
Research interests are very encouraged and the Trust R&D team has links with the University of Exeter and a well-regarded reputation for participation in both regional and multi centre national trials. Development of consultant roles such as a research principle investigator are well established and supported.

Job summary
North Devon Liaison Psychiatry Consultant Post 6PA Devon Partnership NHS Trust.
North Devon offers outstanding beaches, surfing, kitesurfing, outdoor swimming and excellent opportunities for riding and running. Dartmoor is close by, providing a stunning environment and a great place to raise children away from bigcity pressures.
The team is friendly, supportive and well regarded for staff retention and highquality clinical work. The hospital is small and easy to navigate, enabling strong relationships across clinical and managerial teams, with a caring and relaxed culture.
The post is well supported by local Psychiatric Consultants, regular team supervision, links with Liaison Teams across the county and close collaboration within the team. The service works a Core 15 model, with the medical component providing care 9am5pm to people admitted to inpatient wards or attending the Emergency Department.
On calls are part of the post and whilst relatively frequent (Pro Rata 1:6) they are not intense and mostly constitute telephone advice and infrequent MHA assessments.
