Job summary
Are you looking to start a career in Clinical Coding and Health Information Management Services (HIMS)?
Clinical Coding involves reviewing information about a patient's care, including their diagnoses, treatments and procedures, and translating it into nationally recognised clinical codes. This creates an accurate record of the patient's hospital journey and provides important information to support NHS services.
These entry-level opportunities will help you develop specialist skills in clinical coding, data quality and information management. You will receive full training, structured support and supervised workplace experience, developing your understanding of clinical information, patient pathways and coding. No previous clinical coding experience is required. We are looking for people who are keen to learn, have excellent attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate work.
You can develop through the Trust's Clinical Coding Career and Competency Pathway towards a Trainee Clinical Coder role, subject to achieving the required standards.
The HIMS Apprentice role also provides the opportunity to work towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification while gaining practical workplace experience.

Data Lead
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust View all jobs

Job summary
The Addiction Care & Treatment Service (ACTS) at University Hospitals Dorset is looking for a Data Lead.
ACTS is a small specialist team. We work with patients across our hospitals who have difficulties with alcohol and other drugs and tobacco dependence. We also work with people who experience high intensity use of hospital services. The service reports its activity to NHS England, NHS Dorset and local authority commissioners as well as to the Trust. Looking after the data behind all of that is the focus of this post.
You will be the only person doing this work. That brings independence and a direct working relationship with the Head of Addiction Services. The reporting deadlines sit with you, though not in isolation. You will work closely with the clinical team and with the Trust's Business Intelligence department, who support the service's data flows.
We are more interested in how well you handle data than in whether you have worked in addiction services before. You will need office experience in a healthcare setting and advanced Excel skills. You will also need to explain what a set of figures shows about the team's activity and outcomes, in terms a clinician or a commissioner can use.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short practical Excel task at interview. Informal enquiries are actively encouraged.
Base: cross-site, Poole Hospital and Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Interview date: 19th October 2026
Main duties of the job
o Manage all statutory and mandatory data submissions on behalf of ACTS and UHD, including drug and alcohol returns through NDTMS and tobacco returns and act on DOMES and RAG report findings.
o Coordinate the collection, validation and entry of patient data and take the lead on resolving validation issues with clinical staff and the Business Intelligence team.
o Build and maintain the reporting databases, dashboards and digital processes the service runs on, covering outcome measures, activity trends and performance against KPIs.
o Produce routine internal and external reports and respond to ad-hoc information requests, to a high standard of accuracy, timeliness and presentation.
o Work with clinicians and service managers to interpret what the data shows and turn it into practical recommendations.
o Act as the single point of contact for ACTS data queries across both hospital sites, and set consistent data standards so that reporting means the same thing wherever it comes from.
o Design and deliver training for colleagues on data handling and spreadsheet use, pitched to a range of skill levels and provide ongoing troubleshooting support.
o Allocate work to the ACTS administrative staff and give guidance on data handling, confidentiality and data protection.
o Represent ACTS in meetings, forums and working groups on data, quality improvement and service development.

ACTS is a small, specialist team working across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. You would be the only person in the service holding this brief, working directly to the Head of Addiction Services and alongside the specialist nursing team. That means real ownership and visible impact, and it means you need to be someone who can organise their own work.
UHD has active networks including Women's, BAME, Pride, EU, Pro Ability, and Armed Forces. We support Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant interview schemes.

UHD provides the full range of benign UGI surgery as well as being the regional bariatric and oesophago-gastric cancer surgical centre, servicing the populations in Dorset, South Wiltshire and West Hampshire. We have an established laparoscopic and an evolving robotic surgical programme with access to Davinci Xi and DV5 systems at both the Bournemouth (RBH) and Poole sites. We have excellent working relationships with our GI colleagues at Dorset County Hospital and Salisbury District Hospital, and provide both expertise in abdominal wall reconstructions as well as endoscopic interventional services. The ideal candidate will have a broad experience in UGI and acute general surgery. Tertiary training in abdominal wall, or regional bariatric and cancer units is desirable.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take part in the acute surgical rota at the Bournemouth site on a 1 in 9 basis with internal cover. This runs on acute surgical blocks when all elective activity is cancelled. As part of Transformation in Dorset, acute surgical services will be provided at the Bournemouth site in phase 3 (currently earmarked for April 2027). It is anticipated that this will lead to a decreased frequency of on-calls.
The agreed job plan provides, in addition to on call activity, access to operating theatre for elective procedures, outpatient clinics, endoscopy lists, attendance at the regional UGI MDT, departmental education/planning meetings, clinical administrative time and SPA allocation. The appointee is expected to work across the UHD sites and be flexible in covering elective activity. This will be adjusted accordingly when Phase 3 Transformation takes place.

This means that some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have about this at interview.

Posted 1 month(s) ago
Reference: 2362987
Job summary
We are looking for experienced and motivated Band 6 Paramedics to join our Emergency Department team in a new Initial Assessment and Triage Paramedic role. Working at the front door of the Emergency Department, you will provide rapid clinical assessment and triage for both adult and paediatric patients arriving as walk-ins and by ambulance.
Register Your Interest
Register your interest today with just your name and email address and you'll be invited to our upcoming VirtualRecruitment Event, taking place on 8 and 9 October. You will only need to attend one of these sessions.
It's your opportunity to find out more about joining our organisation, including our working environment, career development opportunities, training and support, and what you can expect from life as part of our team.
A Simple Route to Apply
We know your time is valuable, so we've kept the process straightforward. Following the Virtual Recruitment Event, candidates who wish to progress will complete a short online assessment featuring four competency-based questions to demonstrate your experience, skills and suitability for the role.
Interviews will take place from 23-26 October.
This advert is for registration of interest only. Next steps will be provided during the Virtual Recruitment Event.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will rapidly assess and triage adult and paediatric patients attending the Emergency Department, identifying acuity, clinical risk and the most appropriate onward pathway. They will initiate investigations and treatment within their scope of practice, recognise and escalate deteriorating patients, identify opportunities for alternative pathways such as ambulatory or same-day emergency care, and discharge patients directly where appropriate, within professional competence.
Using the National Acuity Scoring system, you will identify clinical priority, recognise deterioration and ensure patients are directed to the most appropriate pathway. This is a highly autonomous role requiring confident clinical decision-making, effective communication and the ability to manage patient flow while delivering direct patient care.
A key element of the role will be supporting safe and effective ambulance flow. The post holder will work closely with ambulance crews, SWAST operational staff and the wider Emergency Department team to prioritise patients awaiting handover, support timely transfer of care and improve ambulance turnaround. The role will combine rapid clinical assessment, autonomous decision-making, patient streaming and flow management with direct hands-on patient care.
Applicants must be HCPC registered Paramedics with a minimum of two years' post-registration experience, with an enthusiasm for developing their practice within the Emergency Department.
