As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated Good by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
UHS gained foundation trust status in 2011. Every year the team of 11,500 treats around 150,000 day and inpatients including 50,000 emergency admissions.
The critical care units at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are renowned for their local and national contribution to critical care, as well as for consistently delivering high standards of clinical care. We are very proud of their developments and how their service has expanded enabling them to actively recruit.

Working closely with SCI Clinical Leads, Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries, multidisciplinary teams and regional partners, you will provide expert clinical leadership, assessment, education and support for patients with acute SCI, their families and healthcare professionals across the region.
This autonomous specialist role offers the opportunity to manage a complex caseload, influence service development, drive quality improvement initiatives and deliver education programmes across the region. You will be instrumental in improving patient pathways, reducing variation in care and ensuring patients receive evidence-based, person-centred support.
We are looking for an experienced Nurse or AHP with significant post-registration experience in acute spinal cord injury care. You will have advanced clinical reasoning skills, a strong commitment to education and service improvement, and the confidence to work collaboratively with senior clinicians and stakeholders.
In return, we offer the opportunity to work within a highly specialised service, contribute to regional strategy, develop advanced practice skills and make a lasting difference to the lives of people with SCI.
If you are motivated by innovation, leadership and improving outcomes for patients with complex needs, we would love to hear from you. Full and part-time opportunities available.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be expected to be able to work autonomously and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, working across professional boundaries to optimise clearly defined patient care plans, outcomes and a stratified follow up programme, to achieve a holistic approach through patient centred care. The post holders will provide leadership, guidance and exercise judgment in making patient centred decisions within current best practice guidance, relevant legal frameworks and with clear understanding of the relevant professional and applied ethical frameworks. The post holder will assist in monitoring and improving standards of care and play an active role in the reporting and evaluation of care related to regionally agreed key performance indicators. The post holders will also play an active role in teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of professional leadership, contributing to clinical effectiveness across the Trust by participating in audit/research as part of the MDT in the field of SCI care and treatment.
The successful candidates will have a proven track record in the delivering the best care for SCI patients and will be a part of a "networked model of SCI care" with the post holder expected to travel across the region including MCSI (Oswestry).
