Job summary
Aligned with the Total-Body-PET scanner soon to be installed at The Christie, a new position exists for a Principal Clinical Scientist to work in the Nuclear Medicine group.The successful candidate will become a member of a team of clinical scientists who provide the medical physics and radiation protection support to work with unsealed radioactive substances, primarily at The Christie.Candidates must have a good first degree in physics or a physical science, MSc. or equivalent in physics applied to medicine or a related subject and be a registered Clinical Scientist. They should have significant training and experience in both diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. They should have MPE certification and be able to demonstrate research experience in nuclear medicine imaging.
Main duties of the job
While the successful candidate will contribute to other aspects of the service, this role has a particular focus on PET-CT where significant experience is required.The working pattern will include some extended working days and weekends, and occasional off-site working at other Nuclear Medicine departments in the North-West for whom physics support is provided.Nuclear Medicine at The Christie also supports a number of Nuclear Medicine departments throughout the north-west of England and beyond, by supplying radioactive tracers and providing scientific advice on radiation safety and best practice.The Nuclear Medicine team at The Christie pride ourselves on a friendly, inclusive and collaborative approach to delivering the very best service to our patients, and driving forward improvements that will lead to better diagnosis and treatment.

The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, looking after more than 64,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 25% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Patient Pathway Co-ordinator to join our Cellular Pathology team. The post provides a vital link between Cellular Pathology, Cancer Services, clinical teams and external providers, supporting the timely progression of patients through the cancer diagnostic pathway.
You will monitor and track pathology specimens, investigations, results and reports against national cancer waiting time standards and locally agreed milestones, proactively identifying and resolving potential delays and escalating concerns where necessary. The role also includes attending Cancer PTL meetings, maintaining and validating accurate pathway information, monitoring performance and supporting service improvement.
We are looking for a confident, proactive and highly organised individual who can use their initiative, exercise judgement and manage competing priorities in a busy and pressured environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong IT skills and the ability to analyse and interpret information are essential.
Main duties of the job
- Co-ordinating and monitoring the pathology component of cancer patient pathways, tracking specimens, investigations, results and reports against agreed turnaround times and cancer pathway milestones.
- Proactively identifying and resolving potential delays, expediting outstanding investigations and reports and escalating pathway risks or concerns appropriately.
- Attending Cancer PTL and relevant pathway meetings, providing pathology updates and progressing actions for patients requiring close monitoring.

This is an exciting opportunity for a full time Specialist Biomedical Scientist (BMS) at Guy's and St Thomas' Blood Sciences Essential Services Laboratory (ESL) within one of the leading teaching hospitals in the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced state registered BMS to gain further experience and develop skills and knowledge. This is a 24/7 shift role.
You will work with a highly trained and knowledgeable BMS laboratory team initially rotating through Blood Transfusion, routine Haematology and Coagulation. This post may also in the future include rotation into the routine Biochemistry Laboratory as we move to a multidisciplinary setting in the ESL.
Blood Transfusion utilise Winpath Enterprise, Blood-Track systems and Bio-Rad analysers. Haematology and Coagulation use Epic Beaker, Sysmex XN and Sysmex CN.
You will be fully supported and upon satisfactory completion of in-house training and competency assessment you will be required to work on the 24/7 out of hours rota.

Main duties of the job
This role delivers biomedical investigations as part of the laboratory team in Synnovis.
Within this you will be issuing blood products, processing specimens, analysing and releasing results whilst maintaining local quality systems. Reporting to the Senior Specialist BMS or Operations Manager, you will be developing your specialist knowledge and skills to ensure the successful delivery of pathology services, in line with our corporate objectives.

Job summary
The post holder will be a specialist in implantable cardiac rhythm management (CRM) devices, including CRT, conduction system pacing and leadless pacemakers, working primarily in CRM follow-up clinics and implant laboratories. They will work at an advanced Healthcare Scientist level, supporting the Principal Cardiac Physiologist for CRM in complex device implantation, follow-up and remote monitoring, and providing cross-cover for the CRM service.
The post holder will support development of the CRM MRI service, including referral triage and staff competency; lead the training and development of junior staff, including PTP/STP students; and contribute to advanced clinical practice such as Healthcare Scientist/Physiologist-led ILR implantation. They will participate in CRM/EP multidisciplinary meetings, support service management, quality improvement and patient support initiatives, and undertake delegated managerial responsibilities.
The role also requires flexibility to work across Cardiac Physiology, including non-invasive diagnostics and interventional catheter laboratories for urgent coronary and structural heart procedures. Participation in the on-call rota for primary angioplasty and the emergency arrhythmia pathway is required, providing specialist support for urgent and potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions.
Main duties of the job
- Provide cross-cover and support to the Lead Physiologist(s) for CRM in the day-to-day management and delivery of the CRM service.
- Contribute to the smooth, efficient and effective running of a high-quality clinical service and undertake additional managerial responsibilities as delegated by the Principal Physiologists.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, including Electrophysiology/CRM Consultants, Arrhythmia Nurse Specialists and the Heart Failure team, to support the safe and effective management of patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices.

Main duties of the job
The Specialist Biomedical Scientists assist the Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientists in the day-to-day running of the department and will be expected to undertake supervision and training of junior staff, troubleshooting and escalating issues.
The post holder will perform analytical procedures necessary for the histological diagnosis of disease. Using accredited procedures, they will rotate through the routine histopathology laboratory facilitating BMS cut-up, microtomy, embedding, special stains and immunohistochemistry sections. They will liaise with pathologists, clinicians and laboratory staff to assist in the delivery of a professional and efficient diagnostic service.
As a HCPC registered BMS, the post holder is expected to plan and organise their own work and follow the principle and broad occupational policies or regulations, adhering to standard operating procedures and local rules within Histopathology.
The post holder is expected to maintain professional competency and dexterity in those precision based specialist and physical tasks and maintain the levels of concentration required to maintain the quality service. The post holder is expected to participate in on-call service at the ESL after suitable training is given should this be required, competency assessments have been completed and sufficient experience is gained.

Job summary

The post holder will be required to work on sites as appropriate for the delivery of the service and may be asked to work across sites within the trust. The post holder will be required to support a 24/7 service including on-call (out of hours) provision as required. Early, core, late and night shift patterns will operate which includes weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job
To participate in the routine work of the laboratory in accordance with laboratory procedure in an efficient, cost effective and safe manner.
- Infection Control:To maintain a clean, safe environment, ensuring adherence to the Trust's standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control.
- Health and Safety:To co-operate fully in adhering to the Trust policies and procedures with regard to health and safety.
- Governance:To actively participate in governance activities to ensure that the highest standards of care and business conduct.
- Equipment maintenance: Check the safety and functioning of all equipment.
- Stock Control:Maintain sufficient stocks of reagents, supplies etc. for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory. Maintain stock control records.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Sterile Services Department as a Trainee Sterile Services Technician (Band 2).
This is a key role supporting the safe and effective decontamination, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical devices used across the Trust, including surgical instruments, endoscopy equipment, and specialist items.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the decontamination and reprocessing of surgical instruments, flexible endoscopes, mattresses, and reusable medical devices to ensure they are safe and available for patient use. Duties include inspecting, assembling, packing, sterilising, and tracking medical devices, operating washer disinfectors, sterilizers, and specialist decontamination equipment, and maintaining accurate records.
All work must be carried out in accordance with Trust policies, infection prevention and control requirements, Health Technical Memoranda (HTM), ISO 13485:2016, UK MDR 2002, and departmental quality standards. The role also supports audits, quality assurance activities, and continuous improvement while helping the department meet service demands.
We are seeking reliable and motivated individuals with good attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in the Microbiology Department at UHS as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist.
The department processes over 1,000,000 specimens per year. We employ almost 100 staff and provide a comprehensive 7 day service covering bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, serology and parasitology and molecular testing.
We are IBMS accredited for pre-registration training and specialist training in medical microbiology, virology and infectious science.The role involves 24/7 working on a shift pattern, including earlies, cores, lates, and night shifts.
You will rotate through sections of the laboratory, providing technical support to Biomedical Scientists and working alongside Biomedical Support Workers. Duties will include processing of clinical samples, maintenance of equipment, and training other members of staff when you have gained competence in section.
Trainee BMS staff would not lead the shift out of hours. Upon registration you will be the supervisor on shift working alongside an Associate Practitioner and/or Biomedical Support Worker.
Candidates must be able to work all these shifts.
Weekends and bank holidays are also worked on a rotation.

An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic BSE accredited echocardiographer to join our dynamic and forward thinking team.

There are in excess of 10 echo rooms at Royal Stoke & County Hospitals which provide a full range of services including, TTE, TOE, DSE, GUCH, contrast and support for structural work in the interventional labs. The service also supports one-stop clinics for heart valve disease, oncology, heart failure and inherited cardiac conditions.
Main duties of the job
The Heart Centre at UHNM provides tertiary cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical services for over 2 million people across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire and South Cheshire, as well as secondary care cardiology for the local population.
The successful applicants will join the established and prominent consultant, nursing and technical team, and will have every opportunity to participate in continuing the development and success of the service.
The successful candidate will be BSE accredited, or working towards BSE accreditation and looking to further develop their skills. This department has a strong track record for developing extended roles such as physiologist or scientist led heart valve surveillance clinics, Herceptin echo clinics, stress echo and TOE, which have been established for a number of years. the team are currently developing echocardiographers within the the heart failure unit. Echo sonographers at UHNM have had the opportunity to complete health assessment training, masters level heart failure modules, attend international conferences and are encouraged and supported to produce, present and publish their work

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service based within the Royal Stoke Clinical Trials Department.
The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within Pathology following Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The tasks will include: sample receipt and preparation, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and updating of information systems. To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality.

Main duties of the job
To support the day-to-day running of the Clinical Trials laboratory, with the support of the Clinical Trials Associate Practitioner and the Quality Operational Support Manager for Clinical Trials.
To perform a number of laboratory procedures/ activities.
Resolve relatively straightforward problems e.g. inappropriate and unlabelled samples according to the departmental SOPs, escalating to a more senior member of staff where appropriate.
To ensure adequate stock of all reagents and consumables are maintained, properly rotated to minimise waste and ensure service delivery.
To support in clerical tasks such as:
o Request entry on the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
o Monitor generic email inboxes and calendars
o Assist with data collection for clinical trials as required
o Telephone enquires
To ensure that agreed data quality checks are carried out and, if discrepancies are found, to report or rectify them as appropriate

Perform extended clinical skills following competency sign off including; ECG recording, Venepuncture, basic wound care, Removal of simple dressings, observations and escalation based on NEWS2. Support the safe positioning, prepping, and draping of patients using advanced knowledge of surgical requirements. (i.e. traction, assistance with application of plaster application of tourniquet). To undertake day-to-day routine duties the postholder is required to use various items of equipment and have the knowledge and skills to store and maintain simple and highly complex / expensive pieces of equipment. Set up and assist with specialist equipment such as; Diathermy machines, Suction and insufflation units, Laparoscopic/arthroscopy camera stacks, Tourniquets and pressure devices. Perform swab, sharps and instrument counts with a Registered practitioner in accordance with Trust policy. Assemble and dismantle theatre equipment, troubleshoot basic equipment faults and escalate appropriately.

Job summary
The successful candidate will participate in delivering the echo service with the North Middlesex cardiology department. The candidate must hold a BSE TTE level 2 accreditation and has relevant NHS experience in the field of cardiac physiology. The successful individual will work alongside the team of 6 other BSE echocardiographers, ETP/registrar trainees , 4 imaging consultants and with the wider cardiac physiology team to perform transthoracic echocardiograms as well as assist with stress and transoesophageal echocardiograms. The department is BSE accredited and as a teaching hospital the successful candidate will be expected to support our trainee echocardiographers to achieve their BSE accreditation. The echo service is open 8am to 6pm on weekdays and also provide inpatient/outpatient weekend service. The individual will be expected to participate in this comprehensive service and flexible working pattern will be considered.
Main duties of the job
- Personally perform and report echocardiograms to a high standard,meeting BSE guidelines and departmental local standards.
- Work alongside the lead cardiac physiologist to provide structured training to junior cardiac physiologists and doctors with a view to their subsequent BSE accreditation.
- Maintain own BSE accreditation by ensuring appropriate CPD is up to date and course requests highlighted to the Head of Department in a timely manner.
- To provide an efficient running of the technical service by prioritising daily workloads.

An opportunity has arisen at Broomfield Hospital for someone to join our friendly team as a Echocardiographer in our Cardiac Department. You will provide Echocardiography in both an inpatient, outpatient and community service in which you will be based in our PFI wing where we have the latest, most up to date equipment and facilities. We are as BSE accredited department, we perform a range of Echocardiography services including Physiology led stress echocardiography and Physiology led valves clinics. The post holder will work within the echocardiography department as a highly specialist clinical cardiac scientist/echocardiographer, independently performing and reporting routine and complex echocardiograms both in an inpatient and outpatient setting. JOB SUMMARY
The Sterile Services and Endoscope Decontamination Department supplies sterile and disinfected equipment to the Wards, Departments and Theatres in the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, and to other users. The work involves the decontamination, preparation, packing, sterilization and distribution of items to the patient areas within the Hospital and collating orders for users outside the hospital.
OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE OF THE POST:
To operate computerised tracking system throughout the departments.
To check ward stock and deliver sterile packs to the wards and departments of the hospital.
To process equipment through the departments decontamination area via washer-disinfector machines and endoscope reprocessors, including manual washing as required
To check surgical instruments and other items prior to packing
To pack items into specified packs.
To collate orders of sterile packs for outside users.
To collect used items from patient areas.
To check stock in distribution areas
To operate washer/disinfectors, endoscope reprocessors, drying cabinets,heat sealing machines, sterilizers and other mechanical equipment
To keep work areas clean and tidy at all times participating in departmentcleaning schedule
To adhere to the departments policies and procedures, including qualitymanagement systems at all times
Any other reasonable duty as requested by the Manager or Supervisor.
N.B. This job may involve the manual handling of heavy loads, for which training will be given. If there is any reason why you should not do this, it is your responsibility to inform your Manager immediately.

- Pervious relevant experience in a similar or related work environment would be beneficial

- Previous decontamination experience
- Experience of using large scale decontamination equipment
